Good Morning,
I was MIA yesterday due to going to a funeral. Lynn-I have my grandmothers singer foot pedal sewing machine too, but the cabinet was in pitiful shape, so Rick took the cabinet off, and made a table top for the base. Looks nice. WHen are the movers bringing the stuff to your house. :) I'll have to check my schedule while I am in DC. I have alot to do in a short period of time. I'm hoping that we can meet for a quick lunch. Will let you know soon. Michelle graduates on May 19th and she signed on with the same school that she did her student teaching with. Theresa-are you all done planting? I bet its pretty now. RObin-I got my ticket the other day for THeresa, going there on August 1st. SHe was here at Mardi gras time, and 2 summers ago we met at Kings Island. Farmbabe-a Moose! WOW!!!!! My daughter would love to live on a farm. My knees are still hurting, and today is day 5 with no walking. I really miss walking. cindy |

Hi everyone--
It's been crazy around here. we have the book fair and the plant sale at school on the same days. My 2 oldest got a call from school. They told a girl her screen name was stupid in an e-mail. The girl called our last name stupid and refered to my daughter as "your stupid older sister." the mother didn't tell the school that part. this is ridiculous. the kids started using that word more than they should because I called the puppy a "stupid dog" when she pee-ed in the house when we were training her. If you dropped a brick on my foot, I'd say "shoot " or "darn" -- DH is capable of a more expanded vocabulary, but not me. I immediately called the mother & told her she should have come with me directly. Getting the school involved for something so minor is silly --- well, stupid. LOL My kids have a huge respect for school authority and I'd like to keep it that way. Anyone else ever had ridiculous runins w/school? |
We have the odd garter snake at our school(outside). When my oldest son was about 10, he spit on one and the principal gave him #*!@ for that!
She told me "I can't believe he'd spit on a poor snake". Gimme a break!! |
Hi Guys!
I can give you one. This just happened a few weeks ago. A black boy (who happens to be a twin) decided to be dumb and go up and down the back of a lunch table and punch people in the back. The first time he did it the VP saw him and sat him down. The second time he did it Barry turned around and called him a monkey. He had been told at home that he could call his sister a "fudge monkey" being a stupid phrase, instead of cussing at her. I got a call to come to school. Barry got suspended for 1 day because the kids mother, who didn't have the time to even come to school, took it as a racial slurr. Barry spent three house in a conference room crying his eyes out because he didn't even know or understand what he had done and no one explained it to him. So now I'm in the process or changing him back to his original middle school, you all remember last summer getting him changed because of his headaches. Well since his migraines seem to be concurred by the meds, I hope sending him to his home school will make things a little better for him. I HATE MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS!!!!!! Anyway, now that I've said all that (LOL) how is everyone today. Not many posts. I went to the grocery stores this morning and out to lunch with girlfriends this afternoon. Got my tomato plans potted and mulch down. I'd say I've had a successful day! LOL I decided to invite two of my best friends and their families over for potluck dinner for Mothers Day. Actually we made out the menu while at lunch and everything sounds delicious. Anyone else doing anything special??? Finished up the bowling league for this season yesterday. My team ended up in 7th out of 8. Oh well LOL. We still won $91 apeace. Not bad! So I went out and bought my mothers day present. I bought a seated swing with a canapy for my deck. I had to put it in layaway because I had the kids with me when I purchased it, but I'll go get it tomorrow and DH says he will put it together for Sunday. Only have to get out and clean down the deck before I can let him do that. OH WELL! LOL Hope you all had a great day. Later, Lynn |
howdy...
thought i would say hi real quick before bed...
i have no idea what to get my mother for mothers day....i think she is mad that i am not coming to see her..i am a mother too, and i don't want to spend my day driving 3 hrs to the lake...i know that sounds a little selfish, but i am tired and really want my day. i go and meet her at work for lunch quite often, so it's not like i never see her, and i talk to her every day on the phone...oh well.... went to the dr. today for my meridia check up...he was very pleased that i am doing so well, my blood pressure is great along with everything else. he told me that meridia has been around for a few years (i didn't know that) and that most patients who have taken it sustained their weight loss since meridia is strictly an appetite suppressant and not a "speed" type diet pill. we decided that i will probably only be on it for 6 months total...from there, we both agreed that i should be able to handle it on my own...some women take a lower dose of it for maintenance..i think that would be a little to much. i got my walk in this evening...i have a friend who lives in another sub-division, and walks this way ...she walks for 2 hrs!! anyway, she stopped and got me and we walked my neighborhood for about 45 minutes and then i left her to make a run for the bathroom. linn, lynn, and jill - aaaaahhhh....charlie starts school in the fall!!!! i don't know how graceful i will be when stupid things like this happen to him.....it probably wouldn't look good if i was caught beating up the principal in the parking lot :) ...wish me luck ladies. have a good day tomorrow girls..i will try to check in. bye.robin |
Good Morning!!!!
I just went to Walmart and picked up my Mothers Day Present to myself. It's now sitting in the family room ready for 2 kids and hubby to assemble. LOL Also got something new in the plants there. They had an 8" terra cotta planter with all kinds of lettuce growing in it. It has about 4 different kinds and you just keep eating and growing for as long as you can! I loved it, so now I have one to go along with the tomato plants and a cuke plant that Barry wanted. Salad all summer! Robin - I have had those same thoughts (clobber the principal in the parking lot) but for the VP at Barry's school. I hate the statement "I have to sit on my hands". It stinks! Have a great day ladies!! Hope to see some more posts next time I get here. Later, Lynn |
Introduction
I tried posting this before and only got it on the main pages. Thanks, Robin for alerting me that I needed to use the reply button. The topic review feature at the bottom is pretty handy.
Zippy, my 13 yo has developed serious migraines recently. He started with the mild ones controlled with OTC meds last summer, but this spring had one major attack lasting 3 days, one lasting 2 days and one lasting one day. We are in the trial and error phase of trying meds. Nobody in the family but my DH's mother (deceased) has had them so I feel like I'm kind of stumbling around clueless figuring out meds, triggers, etc. Now for my intro: Hi Ladies, I was crusing the internet the other night looking at my long neglected WW sites, clicked on this thread and found fellow WW moms. I'm 42, mom of 5 (ages 2-13) and weigh 147. The WW range for my height (5'5") is 120-144 and for most of my adult years I weighed 134-139. I touched on 139 for a few glorious seconds after the last child was born, turned 40, quit work to be a SAHM and then started working my way up the scale. I want to nip this upward spiral in the bud, get back down to the mid 130's and get on a healthy life time eating plan. I joined WW for 8 weeks last fall, lost 6 pounds, then came the holidays, basketball season for my boys, just life in general and quit going to WW. Well, guess what, the weight and all my old eating habits are back! Today was my first day back OP. I still haven't decided if I'm going to formally rejoin WW or not. I like to workout so the exercise part of WW isn't a problem for me. My biggest challenge coming up is hosting a family reunion this weekend. I've got some ideas on how to handle the menu-more on that later. I also can't stand the middle school years-my oldest has never been in trouble before this year and now it's always something. Leslie Now for the reunion:turns out it's just going to be my Dh's 2 older brothers after all and everybody's into eating healthily so I think the menu will be Chicken Parmesean (half a breast for me), homemade applesause, and leafy salad w\lots of zero points veggies. I will have to save points for wine and a piece of lemon mereigne (sp?) pie-can't help it-I've had a yen for a month for lemon pie. Off now to workout and plan today and tomorrow's points. Hi Everyone!
WHERE IS EVERYONE????? Ok, you all split town for Mothers Day Weekend right??? LOL LOL LOL (Don't some of us wish lol) Leslie, welcome!!!! :) Anyone who can make it through the Middle School years is a definite friend of mine. LOL I understand and as you saw in my earlier post, my son who is an Honors student and never in trouble was this year. As for the migraines, where are you from??? I'm in Maryland and the best thing I did was to go to Johns Hopkins for help. My brother is the one who also suffers with the migraines. But, you won't find any help from going into past family history. Work from where you are with your son. My sons doctors want him on Imitrex and it turns out that my insurance won't give it to him because it hasn't been tested on anyone under the age of 18, so they have been giving me samples. But the thing we found really works is Barry sees a phychiatrist for med counseling and he put him on Celexa. The celexa works with the seratonen in the brain and is a mood stabilizer. Helps to keep him up and decreases his migrains down dramatically. Any other help I can give you, please feel free to ask. Went over to the other Middle School this morning with Barry and he loved it. It is all one level, so he won't have to run stairs. Which is a plus. I also talked to the Principal, who I knew from when Rachel was in Middle School. Great Guy! He will work with me any way he needs for Barry for sure. So hopefully this will help Barry alot to. Went to Rachels school this morning to. They have a greenhouse and all the plants are so cheap! Three trays of 6 plants for $2. Got all the things I wanted to put in the garden, plus some pepper plants! Salads galore in this house this summer. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and fantastic Mothers Day!!!! Later, Lynn |
Howdy,
Lynn-you change Barrys school this late in the year? Kids get suspended for all sorts of things, epecially if its racial or to do with violence. Robin-nice going on losing another 2 pounds. and good luck at school with CHarlie. ITs difficult to keep ones mouth shut at times, but sometimes its the best thing to do, FOR THE KIDS sake. Leslie=- Welcome, seems like you don't have much to lose to get to goal. :) Looks like you have a good plan for the family reunion, and I see that you plan your meals in advance. You should do VERY WELL losing. :) Linn-that was pretty STUPID of that mother to call the school on your daughter. PARENTS!!! Farmbabe-I would spit on a snake too, if I weren't so afraid of em. LOL Theresa-any school story to top these? cindy |
Lynn-Migraines
Lynn, I have heard about Imetrix from other migraine sufferers (never knew it was so prevelant till my son started having them) and I was going to ask the dr about it at the next visit. Interesting bit of info that it's not been tested on under 18yo's-maybe that's why the doctor didn't prescribe it. We started a 50 mg dose of Zoloft (antidepressant for the seratonin levels) 3/27 and he has had one mild migraine since and one episode of the aura's. I've been giving Maxalt MLT those last 2 times and it seems to have headed off the migraines or reduced their duration in combination with the Zoloft. The other meds he tried during the 2 and 3 day duration migraine attacks were Zomig and Midrin. They might have worked had I given them right away, but I was still trying to give OTC Excedrin Migraine first, with the goal of giving him the least medication possible. Those happened before we started the Zoloft. The only pattern I've noticed is the big attacks have occurred on Sun evening or Mon morning (the sleep disturbance trigger as he sleeps in late on weekends?) and have occurred 3 weeks apart exactly. Our next 3 week anniversary is May 21. We are closest to St. Louis if we have to consult in a major medical center. My son is also an honors student. I think he is having trouble at school because it is so important at his age to fit in and be like everyone else. I wouldn't be a 7th or 8th grade teacher for the world!

Leslie,
Zomig is another one just like Imitrex. They are all the same thing, just different names. Barry's neurologist says that his can be triggered from being a perfectionist. He strives to be his best. With the celexa it lets him relax enough not to push his migraines to come when he is striving. The other thing I've found is that any of the drugs (zomig, Imitrex) take 2 hours once they have been taken to work. So Barry has to come home from school when he gets a migraine, because otherwise the noise, light ect. just makes it worse. I have also found that when Barry changes how late he stays up and still gets up at his normal time that that can be a trigger for him to. I feel for you, know exactly what you are going through. All you can do is keep working at it with trial and error until you find what the best course of action is for your son. Good Luck! and please feel free to keep the conversation going. Between the two of us maybe we can figure out what the doctors can't. Lynn |
Hi there:)
Welcome, Leslie and good luck getting to goal:) I lost .5 this week. I'll take it. It wasn't a 'balanced' week; I was so busy. I did track, though. It's great to hear about everybody buying plants etc.! We are JUST getting into the season here but you don't dare plant anything yet.(freezes at night yet) I love picking up friends and walking through greenhouses; it's so fun! I have a new idea. I want to build a brick planter in the front of the house. Now, after hauling all those rocks for the pond, I wonder if dh will 'take off' when I mention the brick idea!! LOL  We will get the liner for the pond as soon as things slow down. I wish I had it now because it's suppose to be hot here tomorrow and that is a good time to put it in; darn it!:( I have such a headache today. Not a nasty migraine, though like you've been talking about. That must be awful. everybody |
Hi Guys...

Hugs to all of you and I will try to post from CA if we can figure out my mom's laptop, LOL... Viv |
Hi Guys!
I had a wonderful mothers day weekend....hoping you all did too! although my 5 yr old informed me mothers day was "boring" lol she couldn't understand why I got to do what I wanted and not what she wanted to do.! lol I got lots of very pretty cards, a very pretty bouquet for flowers, garden bench for the backyard, and dh and 6th grader planted my 10 flats of geraniums out front for me. :) it's going to look spetacular this summer! :D Went to WW Sat morning.. I'm +1, didn't surprise me.....I was pretty stressed last week (don't really know why?!) didn't do very well following program......hopefully this week will be better. so far so good! lol Sat afternoon, we took the kids to see Peter Pan. The high school put it on as a muscical......they did an excellent job I might add......I was very impressed. costumes/lighting and orchestra were outstanding.....Peter/Wendy/John and Michael even flew!!!! Viv, thanks for posting. you're right......everything is going to be fine! keep up the positive attitude AND keep us posted ..... ok! -------- how are the kids handling this? have you told them much? Oh Jill, I love this time of year. our tomatoes already have blooms! :D they are about 12 inches high.....the peppers and green beans are looking good too.. we've already been able to harvest some lettuce! oh it's good! Linn, don't EVEN get me started on school stories! or worse BUS stories! Hi Lelsie, very nice to meet you! :) that's very smart of you to "nip it in the bud" wish I'd have done that.....sigh. I've got 3 kids, boy 12, girl 5 and boy 3 1/2. the big 40 is just around the corner for me  next Sunday to be exact! I'm just curious, what part of the country do you live in? I'm in Cincinnati, originally from St. Louis. Lynn, glad to hear Barry is switching schools. what a jerk of a principal! ----- you're mothers day present sounds great! I love garden fresh veggies :) I got a garden bench for mothers day this year! Robin, know what I tell my mom.......I tell her to come see me! lol it's a heck of a lot easier for her to come here than me packing up 3 kids to go to St. louis......heck I even tell her I'll buy her a plane ticket! lol ---- I'm glad to hear your check up went well. that's good news. ---- looks like my sister will be moving down in the next few weeks. her boyfriend is down there this week scouting out places to live. he started his new job today. at the end of the month they are going to Ireland for 10 days.....then she'll be moving. I'm glad--- she's moving, I prefer "living" in southern states to the east coast (just my opinion not intending to offend anyone living on the east coast----it's beautiful there too......) Soooooo Cindy, have ya gotten that plane ticket yet? did I tell you your favorite guy (Rodger from Survivor) was at Kings Island yesterday! lol I thought of you when I heard it on the news! better go, think I'll go get some lettuce from the garden for my sandwich today! ;) Hi Ellie  take care, Theresa |
