Default WW Feisty & Sexy 50-60 yr old #24

G'day all,

Just thought I would quickly start a new thread.

I am off to a seminar at our Convention Centre. It is a free seminar from Adobe. Adobe Photoshop being my software of choice , I thought it would be interesting but then again it might just be a sales pitch.
Then I am off to have a sattelite phone activated, pick up dh from the airport and then off for a farewell of a former colleague of dh.
Busy day ahead.......and I have now forgotten what was said in the previous thread other than Karen those wineglasses sound just beautiful, never seen anything like that.

See ya tomoorow.....

Cheers
Maria

Default thanks everybody.....

Thanks everybody for your input into (what I am now calling) my "adventure".

Glenda thanks, for your input about seeing the eye doctor but I just did have my regular appt with her and then about a two weeks or so ago I had the more in depth one which I get every year since I am diabetic. I have known for about 3 - 4 months that my headaches seemed to have "changed" and did see my doctor. At the time he, "we" thought it might be because I had infected sinus and I took meds for that. The friend I saw today gets that "aura" before a headache. She says she justs takes her medication and lies down for a few minutes and the "lights" go away. I still think it is a very scary thing to happen, but if it happens again, that I will cope better with it.

Slavika, I know it can be a scary thing. Those darn migraines will they ever go away? I was told when i began having them at 15 that they would eventually go away. I'm still waiting for eventually

Hi Lily yes it was quite a scare for me. I'm glad that's over. Nice "seeing" you around here.
I don't know how I missed it, but I just went back over the posts (after reading the one you posted today) and I see Karen that you also get migraines and have had them affect your vision. Were your migraines always like that (with the auras), right from the start when you were only 15? I also used to think that my headaches would go away, maybe when I got older ( well I got older), but obviously the headaches didn't go away.

Ann are you home yet??

Slavika, should have known you wouldn't have neglected your eyes. I used to get some bad headaches that lasted for 3 days or so, but since spending a fortune at a chiropractor, I don't get those things anymore. Mine weren't migraine, but tension or structural. I hae heard a lot of people talk about the auras. My husband has epilepsy and has had 3 seizures in 41 years and he said he gets a clicking just before a seizure. Funny how signals happen, isn't it?

A young man at church who was killed in a freak accident last Monday has 2 young kids. I took food to their trailer yesterday and have been so sad ever since. He came from a big helping family, but just their resources are so very slim. Makes you really think about lucky we have been to have our husbands while raising young kids. I also want to caution my grown kids against cutting down huge trees to save money. No one 33 years old should die.

On a happier note, we will be babysitting grandkids Fri-Sun while their parents go on a float trip. Kyle will be starting his new job as a principal soon, so this is his last party for the summer.

Lily - you are posting in the week? What happened?

Karen - You can always put on your WW hat for us. You give us good tips.

G'day all,

Glenda I so agree with you....Karen can put her WW leaders hat on anytime, I also find her tips and advice of great help.
I am happy to say that I have never suffered from migraines. A cousin of mine has also had migraines since she was very young. As soon as she gets the 'sign' that a migraine is imminent, she injects herself in the thigh to stop it coming on in the severity she used to have them.
I don't know what the medication is that she uses but she has regular check-ups with a specialist etc. so it is not something she does 'willy-nilly'.

Nice to see you are keeping an eye on us Lily You might be interested in the Adobe Roadshow I went to yesterday at our Convention Centre. It was very informative but the best part was there were so many people our age....I expected all the funky, young graphic designers to be there but our age group definetly outnumbered them. I picked up a few tips and met a few interesting people. The show was from 9 to 4 but unfortunately I had to leave at 11, would have loved to have stayed for the day.

How awful for that young family Glenda, we are indeed very lucky to have relative good health and financial enough to afford all necessities.

It is a rainy miserably day here today, perfect for spending indoors

Have a great weekend all,
Cheers
Maria

Now I think I am going nuts. I could swear that I posted on this thread but it either went into cyber space or I am imagining it. Probably the latter.

We had a torrential downpour of rain the other night and it caused the basement to leak which it will do when it rains like that. I had to put a fan to dry it out since there were 2 showings yesterday. The dog must have ate something so he was sick in the middle of the night quite a few times. It was one of those days when nothing goes right.

I have missed going to WW cause of vacation so I will have to go tomorrow and face the music. It might not be a pretty site. I am so glad it is fruit season with all the good fresh fruit that is available now. Blueberries are 97cents a pint at Meijers so I am stocking up and freezing them. Can't get enough of them.

Slavika what a scare you had with your eyes. I have had migraines but never anything like that.

Karen are you all geared up for the big move? Your wine glasses sound so neat. I have never seen anything like them-they are treasure.

Lily glad that you are stopping in whenever you can and in between your visits to the winery. We went to dinner at a local winery the other night but the scenery is nothing like yours.

Maria good for you for keeping on learning all you can.

Got to run-I have a trunkload of stuff for the local thrift store. It is rattleing around back there. Great storage place for unwanted items as long as you remember they are back there.

Have a great day.

Talking Finally Home

Hi Everyone: and welcome to all the new folks who have joined us. And
Marnie: I echo the rest- please don't go. I have had all sorts of quilting things ready to ask. If you decide to stay away, just check in with us now and again.

We got home about 3:00p.m. today. It has been a long time away from home. I did get the chance to read posts now and again at my daughters and also used my friends computer. But I couldn't post, as the password that I had wasn't accepted, don't know why, and now will be able to write and find out what has changed.

Our trip started with a visit to DD in Williamsburg Va. and then we all went on up to Maine and spent 10 days there. Then over into Vermont and spent the 4th and another day or two with DH cousins in their very rustic cabin. Then on to our former home town and spent 10 days there. A bit longer, since we coulnd't stay with DH brother and SIL since he is still recuperating from his accident. We did get to see him in the re-hap center where he is. It is a slow process, since his brain surgery. He is in a unit for rehap for brain injuries. Then on to Baltimore to other DD for a couple of days, back to Williamsburg for 5 days, and here we are.

My dd and I spent some shopping days together, and I am getting rid of all our old kitchen tableware, dishes, as well. Went to a Corning outlet and got new plates, etc. and then to an Oneida Silverware outlet and got a new service for 8. Got them all in the dishwasher now, and so I have to do a major overhaul of my cupboards.

I'll never remember what everyone has been doing, but Karen- I expect to be hearing from you one of these days, once you get all settled in. We will get together.

Glenda: Hope things have worked out at the office, and that your ds will mend his ways. My DD has her middle son who is their problem. They have not seen him for almost two years. He has two delightful kids, and he hasn't seen them either. I think we all just do the best we can with our kids, and then they make dumb choices, and there is nothing we can do about it, but love them anyway.

Slavika: Glad your experience with the eye turned out to be not so serious. I am fortunate that I have never had migraines.

Trudy: Sorry about your allergies. They sure are a pain. I got a cold, the last week we were away, while at my DD, but now it is about gone. But I think I gave it to her.

Lily: No more injuries. I could never go barefoot anymore. Used to love it, but now only on the carpet - nice and soft.

Peggy: Hope your house sells. Glad you had a nice vacation. And that you didn't have a lot of rain. One thing about our time away, there was a lot of rain, and it was very cool, most of the time. I took all sorts of summer clothes, and mostly wore long pants, flannel nightie, jackets and sweatshirts. I know that probably some of that is because I am a Florida 'hot-house pansy' but our frinds were cold too.

Maria: Glad to hear about your success with losing. Now I am going to have to "face the music" and go to WW this week. I promised myself I would start when I got home. Also have to get back to Curves. I don't think I could handle a step machine. Too achy knees. When I picked up your email, I was at my daughters, but my access was limited. And I never did get to see your photos. Hope you send me the address again.

Time to go to bed. It has been a long day, but I had to unwind a bit. Hope I can sleep in tomorrow. Glad to be back. Ann

G'day all,

Just returned from the gym and I am down a miserable .1kg this week .
Maybe I am developing muscle and we all know muscle weighs more than fat
I decided to do a bit of a measure and I have lost 5cm off my thighs but only 3 cm off my waist. I am what you call an apple shape and I don't really want to loose any centimetres of my thighs, I would like it to ALL come off my hip, waist and stomach
The good thing is that I am down on last week, I won't complain too much.

Welcome back Ann
Sounds like you had a great holiday, especially catching up with your dd's must have been good. New dinnerset and a new service, it will be nice to re-organise all your cupboards and start using all the new stuff.

Peggy How did the 2 showings go with your house, hope you managed to get your basement dried out.
We have blueberries in the shops but I have never seen them cheap I must check next summer where they come from, I don't think they are grown in South Australia. They are supposed to be very good for you, besides looking and tasting great in a fruit salad.

Cool day here today, I have to get my stuff ready to go to see our tax agent tomorrow, what a boring tedious job
Our financial year ends on June 31.

Have a great day all,

Cheers
Maria

Starting weight: 94.9 kg
goal weight: 72 kg
todays weight 88.7kg
-.1 from last week
total loss till now 6.2 kg

Hi Everybody

Well gals, I have to tell you that this Friday I will be 65 years old and will receive my first " old age security pension cheque" in August. That is the government cheque that we ALL get when we turn 65 years old. I can't believe that I will receive a cheque for around $460.00 every month (that's what everybody gets unless their income is really low then they will get a supplement)...LOL LOL I told my husband that I will be independently wealthy. I also receive what is called the Canada Pension(since I was 60) and that you only receive if you worked and contributed funds to the plan. I didn't work that long...but enough to receive a small cheque. I know that is not a lot of money if you actually have "live" on it...in fact I don't know how some folks do it.
Maria you still had a loss this week and that is good. Whenever I have a small loss I think that's still better then a small gain, so CONGRATS!
Peggy I can't believe you guys are getting blueberries that cheap. I bought some (I forget what I paid, but I know it was more then 99 cents) and put them into freezer bags and into my freezer to use this winter.
Ann welcome back. It sure was nice to read your post. Sounds like your trip went well and that you had a nice time.
Tomorrow is WW weigh-in day for me and after one of the gals from our Tea Time group is having us over for my birthday. She has a lovely pool and told us to bring our swimsuits if we wanted to.
Bye for now.

Wow Slavika you will be rich!!
Your system is a little different than it is here. Here if you are 'self-funded' retiree, you don't get any pension. Being a 'self-funded' retiree really means that you have saved all your working life to be in that position.
I think we get some benefits when we reach 60, like cheaper bus fares etc.
My sister is on a government widow's pension, I don't know how she does it but she says she manages OK but has to be very careful.
The last few years we have watched our investments dwindle but thank goodness they are picking up again and we should be fine when dh finally retires.
DH's job with Lucent the last 4 years has been a huge bonus for us. Many of his colleagues who were made redundant (horrible word) about the same time as dh, never worked again and with the downturn of investments, are finding it quite hard.

By the way I liked the Dr.Phil quiz. It is quite scary how accurate these quizzes can be.

See ya tomorrow.....
Cheers
Maria

Morning,

It's hard to believe that it is Juy. It is downright cold and it is rainy. Come back summer.

Anne welcome back. You sure did a lot of visiting and traveling. We drove through some of that rain on our return trip home from the beach. This is the second time I have gone through Virginia and love the beauty of it.

Slavika Happy Birthday in advance. That is nice little check the government will be sending you. Happy Shopping with it. LOL

I liked the Dr Phil but I agree with Trudy's email. I had a hard time selecting a favorite color. I went with the yellow - blue and was wondering why they were put together. Couldn't decide between that and the green. I like all colors.

Still doing lots of house showing. Getting real tired of cleaning up every day. Have to say it shines most of the time. Just wish the right person would come along and buy it.

Been doing some sewing which I haven't done in a while. Bought a Vera Bradley look alike pattern and been working on the backpack for my niece's daughter. The kids in her school have them and her mom won't spend the $75 on a new one. I wouldn't either and can't believe that grade school age kids have parents that do. It is easy to make once you have all the stuff. Next I might make myself one of the purses.

Getting my mammo this afternoon so I get to get some things done around here. Have a good day and Happy Tuesday Tea Time.

Maria
and Everybody we also have self-funded pension plans. DH, for example has contributed to a pension plan at the bank all his working years. Also you have to have a few investments or some savings to carry you through your retirement years. I think what happens is that some people NEVER did contribute to a pension fund. For example, I know that a lot of small business owners, say for example a "carpenter" or a "painter" they do not belong to a group pension fund and often do not set up some pension fund on their own and then when it comes time to retire they just don't have too much in the way of money coming in, other then the government pension. I know that nowadays, people like my son, sit down with a financial advisor, when they first begin working and set up a plan to save money for their future. Lots of companies now do not even have group pension plans, and if you spend everything you earn during your working years and don't save anything for the time when you are retired, you are in trouble. I guess there is some sort of government "pension fund" in place for people like your sister in Australia. Does that mean that all women who lose their husbands would be entitled to this pension? We also have little discounts for seniors just as you do...such as riding the bus cheaper, and a 10% discount day at drug stores and things like that.
Peggy good luck with the sale of your house. It's hard work keeping your house looking spic and span every minute of the day. LOL LOL you could get one of those swiffer's like the gal on the TV ad that cleans her friends house. Hmmmm, I never seem to beable to get my friends to clean mine. When Trudy was looking into buying a new central vac system, I did let her try mine out, and suggested the places in my home that needed the extra cleaning.
Bye for now.
