Thursday Chatter
Hi Everyone,
I started us a new thread since our other one was getting long. Please join us, everyone is welcome. Some of us weigh on Thursdays and others (as in myself) don't. Hope you all are having a great day. |
Hello Everyone;
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Punky (real name is Jeniece) But I have been called Punky sense birth. I am 47 years old. I live with my wonderful husband, Arthur. We have 3 female Dachshunds. (Skeeter,Scooter, & Squeaker) I have 3 kids from a previous marriage. Holly 31, Hilda 29, & David 24. I have 2 grandkids. Paxton 3, Truman 1. They are Holly's. I live on Whidbey Island in Washington state. I joined W.W. on April 17th 2003. I have lost 20.2 pounds. I just love the points. I wish I would have done this long ago. I have tried every weight loss program and diet that there is. But there wasn't W.W. on the Island until now. This is something that I can stick with for life. I hope to post often. And I hope to hear from all of you soon. Thanks for allowing me to join your group. :grouphug: Punky :flow1: |
Hi Punky,
Welcome to the group! :) I'm Susan and live about 30 miles north of Dallas. I am 40, I will be 41 next Wednesday. I have 5 dogs, 5 cats, and 2 horses. I have no children. I'm a special ed. teacher at a local middle school, so I consider that I have many children, I just don't have to bring them home. I am a lifetimer but I stopped going to meetings and then not only gained a few pounds but way too many of them. So I have about 60 pounds to lose now. I just went back about 6 weeks ago and have lost 10.6 pounds. I'm a slow loser so I'm happy when I lose. I'm doing it this time!!!! I just had partial knee replacement in Dec. so I just went back to exercising last week at Curves and have been swimming a couple of nights a week. I hope that helps and speeds up my loss. Glad you joined us!!! |
I'm Baaack!
Welcome to the group, Punky. We are glad you found us. Well, I am back to stay this time, I hope. Larry has to go back to Abilene this weekend because the probate hearing is Monday. He said I could stay home. I had a bad virus the whole time we were in North Carollina, and coming and going. Today is the first time I haven't had a bad sore throat. Maybe by the end of the week, I'll feel more normal. The graveside service was very nice. All the relatives made me feel like part of their family. (This was only the second time I'd ever seen them.) I don't know if I'll weigh this week. I probably should because I haven't felt like eating anything. I could taste but just couldn't eat because of my throat. I hope Tammy had a good trip. Someone is having a birthday tomorrow! I wonder who!!!!! :) How is everyone else doing????? Tina :flow1: |
Hi,
Tina, I'm so glad that ya'll got back safely. I know it was a hard trip for both of you and especially Larry. I'm sorry that you've been sick. I'm sure that it is from the stress!! Take care of yourself!! I wonder who has a birthday tomorrow!! Well, that has to be ME!! :) Pat is taking the day off, and we are going to the Ft. Worth zoo. It should be fun. My mom called today to wish me a happy birthday and I had to remind her it was tomorrow. It was pretty funny! :D I'm not weighing in this week either. My friend, wife and son took me out to lunch and I ate way too much. Oh well!!! Hope everyone has a great day. |
BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSAN!!! Sorry I didn't read this yesterday. I hope you had a wonderful day! Did you do something special? If so I hope you enjoyed yourself. I hope anyone else out there who has a birthday coming up has a great one.......Sis :D
|
Hello Everyone
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. :D Sorry to hear that you are sick Tina :sorry: Hope you feel better real soon. :) Happy Birthday Susan. :hat: :balloons: :hb: :gift: I will post more later. Bye for now. Punky :flow1: |
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!!! Wow, another year older and I still feel like I did in my 20's. Pat took the day off and we played all day. It was a blast. I didn't weigh in today and don't plan on it until next week. Off to check on some cookies that I have in the oven.
|
T.G.I.F.
Punky, let me introduce myself to you. I'm 50+, just had a birthday, and live in Texas. My husband and I have one grown son (29) who lives nearby. No grandchildren yet.......don't know when he'll get around to marriage. :) I became a Lifetimer in '93 but have fallen off the wagon several times. I love cooking, sewing and needlepoint. Oh, and we are "owned" by a 13 year old cat, Smokey. I cannot believe this month is gone. I plan on savouring every day in July. Can you believe that July 4th is just around the corner!!!!! Does anyone have special plans? I think we'll cook out. Maybe we'll go to a movie. Does anyone know when Legally Blond 2 comes out???? Have a super weekend. Tina |
Happy Birthday Susan!!
Welcome to the gang Punky! We have a dachsund named Kramer. I think he is the boss of our house! We have a son who is 15 and a busy boy! He is involved in way too many things, but he enjoyes them all, so why not? I am 48, live in Ohio, and I teach 2nd grade (at least I did when I left school the beginning of June! They've been known to change people around.) Tina, we drove through NC on our way to Georgia. It is so pretty down there. We loved our time at the ocean. I think I could live there! Working on getting our clothes washed up from the trip, so I need to get out of here for now. Oh, we did loads of walking and hit a couple of exercise rooms at the motels. That made me feel better about what I ate on the trip!! lol |
Tammy, Welcome home. I'm glad you had such a good trip.
what part of NC did y'all go through? My husband's relatives live around Morehead City and Beaufort. It's so hot around here. Larry has to return to Abilene in the morning for the Monday court date for the will. I wish I was going, too, now. But, I don't envy him that long ride. I found out that Legally Blond 2 will be out on Wednesday. I guess they want to be in the movies for July 4th. I did pretty good eating today. I'm feeling so good now that I'll start back on the ole treadmill on Monday. My muscles are turning to much. :) Tina |
Hi Ya'll
Thanks for my birthday wishes!! I have had a horrible food week. I seem to be off track and can't seem to get back on the right one. I'm afraid to weigh in this week!!!! It isn't going to be pretty. I'll be swimming and going to Curves alot this week. Tammy, glad you had a good time on vacation. I think one of the best things is getting back home!! Tina, we went to the movies for my birthday. We saw The Italian Job. It was pretty good but even better was the movie popcorn!!!! YUM!! :D Punky, how are things going for you? Here's to an OP day!!!! And a lots of Water day!! |
I'm doing real good Susan. I got my friend to join W.W. with me,it will be nice to have a buddy.:D So what is everyone doing for the 4th. This will be the first year sense my husband & I have been together, that we have had the 4th off. And we have been together for 10 years. We are nurses. I retired 5 years ago,but my husband is still at it. So we are going to have a nice "quiet" time here at home, we are going to BBQ,and set off some of our own fireworks. On the 3rd the city has fireworks down on the beach, we may go to that. I hope everyone has a great 4th. Punky :flow1: |
Hi All,
Ok, I just discovered something wonderfully delicious!! They are Wyler's Light Sorbet Bars!!! They are only 1 point each and have 35 calories. They are so good!!! They are like the icy pops that you freeze for kids. I found them by accident at Walgreens in the diabetic section. Hope everyone is doing good today. I'm trying really hard today since I've not been so good the last week. I'll see what the damage is on Wednesday morning. However, I did go to Curves this morning and plan to every day this week. As for the 4th, we don't do much. The town's firework display is about a mile away from us so we sit in the backyard and watch it. Pat mentioned something about having a couple of his friends over for a cookout but hasn't said if it's gonna happen. I'm sure I'll find out on Friday :) |
Hello,
Hope everyone's Monday went well. Susan, I'll have to try those pops. I like the Starbucks mocha pops. I just imagine we will grill burgers and I'll make a little potato salad and my famous baked beans. I don't know if we'll do that at lunchtime or night. You can't see fireworks from our house because of all the beautiful trees. It's usually too hot and too many mosquitoes to go sit somewhere and watch them. One year is was actually breezy and coolish. That's not the norm. Tina :flow1: |
Happy Tuesday everyone.
Larry got back home safely last night. He drove but he "flew" home he got here so fast. He was starving because he'd gone 6 hrs. without eating. I fixed him a cutlet and baked potato. Yummy. I'm making myself hungry for lunch. My brother-in-law is Executor of the will and is going to take his sweet time to be thorough. YUK. You can be thorough and still get the money divided quickly. Grrrr...... He is a very nice, gentle person however we'd like to get this thing taken care of. I guess Sheree will be back online tomorrow. Tammy, did you get all your washing caught up? Susan, are you going to Curves all this week like you wanted? I'm adding something sent to me about things that cause cancer. It might seem long but it is interesting. Carcinogens cause cancer. Especially breast cancer. Don't freeze your plastic water bottles with water as this also releases dioxins in the plastic.* Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle Hospital was on a TV program explaining this health hazard. He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital. He was talking about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Dioxins are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies. Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results without the dioxins. So such things as TV dinners, .weight watchers dinners , lean cuisine dinners, instant ramen cup of noodles, and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. Just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc |
Tina, I don't remember those towns when we went through NC. I do know that we went through Charlotte.
I have been to Curves everyday so far this week! I am so pleased with myself. Planning to get up and go in the morning also. Yes, I managed to get the laundry finished. We decided that next year if we go there again, we are taking about 1/2 as many clothes and we'll do laundry while we're there. I'm ready to go sit on the porch and read. Not sure if it will be a magazine or start a new book. Decisions are the pits, aren't they? I don't want to weigh tomorrow because I'm crampy. Seems like I'm crampy every week! lol Hope everyone has a good weigh in this week! |
Hi Ya'll,
Hope everyone is doing great today. Well weigh in was not a happy thing, I was up 2.2. I knew I would but at least I went!! :) Now I have to get serious again. Tina, I know you and Larry are ready to get things taken care with his father's estate. I didn't go to Curves yesterday but I've been Monday and today. I got measured and I did have a loss in measurements so that is a positive thing. Tammy, so what did you decided to go read, a book or magazine? Tina, thanks for the info. I'm going to meet a friend for dinner today. We are having Mexican. There is this good chicken and zuchinni dish that they make so that's what I'll get. At least I'll be a little good. Have a good evening. |
Yum to Mexican! The chicken and zuchinni sounds good. Boo on the pounds, but hooray on the measurements!!
I ended up finishing my new Woman's Day magazine. I also subscribe to the Discipleship Journal. I've been going through some older ones, and I'm going to pass them on to some other people. I've really been on a "let's get rid of things" kick. lol I was in the same mood at the end of the school year and really cleaned out some things at school. My closet in our extra bedroom looks almost naked since I have gotten rid of so much. Back to the porch to read until I fall asleep, which probably won't be very long. |
Hope everyone had a nice and relaxing 4th!! We ended up having my best friend and his family over for hamburger and hotdogs. Then we watched the fireworks. So today, I have to be a little more focused on my food!!
Tammy, the chicken and zuchinni was great! It's grilled!! I love to get rid of stuff but as soon as I do the space seems to fill right back up! I'm not sure about that!!! :) Ohh, a nap on the porch sounds great! Here is you walk outside you melt until 9:00 pm. Tina, How are ya'll doing? Is Larry doing ok? I know this is a tough time for him. Ok, where is everyone. I know it's a holiday weekend but it's been pretty quiet around here lately. We miss you!! Nothing really exciting happening here today. Pat is having some of his friends over this evening for steaks. Now, I wonder why we had hot dogs and hamburgers with mine ??? :D Have a good one!! |
It has been quiet around here!!!!! Come on people!!!
Susan, I saw that y'all had a hot 4th. It was around 75 here because we had rain and more rain . It did stop around 5 p.m. just in time for the fireworks celebration. Kenny Loggins performed for a couple of hours and then the fireworks. One of the sponsors was a TV station. So, we got to sit at home and watch the whole thing! Tammy, I'm glad you are getting to relax some. You love to read and you are getting to do that. Sis, how are you doing? Sheree, where are you girl? Where are all the other group members???????:?: :?: :?: :?: Susan, Larry is doing pretty well/good. I'm trying to keep him busy during this 3-day weekend. We were watching some news yesterday where they were burning old flags. That got to him. His dad was in the service and they presented Larry and his brother with flags at the cemetary. So, we went to the video store and rented a silly old movie, "8 Heads in a Duffle Bag" with Joe Pesie. We've seen it a couple of times before. It was still funny. Everyone continue to have a great weekend. Susan, next time go ahead and buy steaks for your friends, too.:) Tina |
LOL We did steaks last night on the grill and they were delicious!! I bought 2 strip steaks. Tim asked what I was planning on eating. I keep forgetting that he's getting bigger and doesn't want to share anymore. Bob brought home a 3rd steak when he came home from work, so we each had our own. I rarely eat beef anymore, so it really was good! I seem to only eat chicken and fish anymore.
Tim is outside drumming for the neighbors to enjoy! Poor people! I'd feel bad if he wasn't good, but he's kind of entertaining! Our front porch is enclosed and when it's hot, we aim a fan from the house out there so it's air conditioned too! As hot and humid as it's been, we seem to always have the AC on. Tim's allergies appreciate the air conditioning. Off the the porch again to read the newspaper. Later I'll be putting pictures in picture albums. Over the past couple days I've been working on that. I put in pictures from 2003, 2002, 2001, and 2000!!!!! Areen't you all impressed with how far behind I am? I still need to do 99 and 98. |
Oh wow!! Kenny Loggins, I just love him!
Tina, I'm sure the movie helped bring some humor! Laughing is a good stress reliever. I can imagine how seeing the flags being burned really upset Larry. It bothers me. It was hot here!!! Mom and Dad said they have had a lot of rain in SA. It's dry as can be here! Tammy, I run the ac all the time with the exception of the few months it is actually cool here. Funny about the putting the pictures in albums, I did that one summer. Since then, I haven't been very good about taking pictures and if I do, they are on my digital camera. I'm VERY IMPRESSED!!! Off to cook potatoes for potato salad. |
Hi all. Hope everyone had a great 4th! We did the whole family thing with bbq outside, swimming, bring a dish to pass, etc. Had a lot of fun. But kind of blew it pointswise. :( Oh well, I WILL be good today. ;)
Tina, thanks for asking, I've been doing pretty good. Got our home gym, been trying to learn how to do that. Hoping it helps me start going downward again. :) I will probably keep away from the scales at first though, since gaining muscle means the scale will show a gain even though you are losing fat. When I'm more confident about what I am doing I will start keeping track of the scales again. Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend....Sis :D |
It's sounds like everyone had a great 4th. We had a great day also. It was just me and my husband, and our 3 Dachshunds. I made a short rib recipe from one of the W.W. cook books. It turned out great. We did fireworks here in our yard. The oldest dog was bored with it. But the 2 youngest just thought they were great. The youngest really likes the ones with the biggest bang.:bomb: I know I have realy strange dogs. The weather here was really nice for a change. It usually rains every 4th. Have a great weekend. Punky :flow1: |
Punky, you do have strange dogs! lol We've been having so many thunderstorms the past few days. Our dachsund, Kramer, does not like them at all. He cuddles up next to me and shakes. They're calling for more storms tonight. Oh boy!!
I think I should stay off of the scales. I hopped on this morning and was up the pound that I just lost! I need to get back to weighing just once a week. Maybe I'll have my hubby hide the scales until Thursday morning!! |
HI Everyone!! Today is my first start over day for WW, I got up this AM and did 1/2 hour of Taebo, and instead of taking the Elevator for work, took the three flights of stairs....So WW really works huh??? Just looking for some insight, some sucess stories, so I too can become a loser! Would appreciate any tips!!! :flow2: :grouphug: :df:
Thanks all! |
Howdy All,
Well, I missed weigh in this week, unless I make it tomorrow and it will be a full week. I've gone to 2 days of workshops, can you say "YUCK" And it's TOM time so I might wait and go next week in San Antonio. My little sister is talking about joining down there so I'll go with her for a little booster. Welcome to the group Jennie! :) This is a great group to be with!!!! I like your saying at the end of your post. |
Hello
How is eveyrone doing? It's been awfully quiet around here. Of course, I'm one to talk. I haven't been in the best of moods.....with Larry's dad dying and all the phoning I've had to do and the claim forms to fill out. Jennie, I add my welcome, too. This is a great group of "losers." :) :s: We never give up the fight!!!!!!! Sheree, are you still around????? Punky, your dogs sound like they keep you busy. I try to keep our cat busy. Since he's older, I try to keep him moving a lot so he doesn't just sleep. Boy, sleep sounds good! Tammy, what book are you reading right now? Susan, my sister had to attend three-days of meetings this week. She starts school the middle of August. When does yours start? Right about now, I'd like to run away to some large, expensive, fancy hotel and be pampered. Of course, I'd only eat pealed grapes. I'd be very careful of the chocolate dipped strawberries.   I thnk I just need to go to bed. Take it easy! Tina :flow1: |
Tina, I had to get up and go look at the title of the book! I'm reading Black Friday by James Patterson. I'm also going through magazines and writing down some things from those that I want to remember, then I'm taking those to the hospital waiting rooms or up to the nursing home where my dad was. I figured that someone could get some use out of them instead of me keeping them or just throwing them away.
I'm trying to decide what I'm taking to band camp for reading material. I had one of Dr. Phil's books last year, and I think I may take the same one again and really do what it says. Kind of like homework. I've read it, but didn't do all of the things that it suggested. |
Hi Ladies,
Tammy, you are in my prayers Girl!!! I hope they hurry up and get you on the right track. What Dr. Phil book are you reading or going to re-read? I have 2 of his books that I started but once they get to the tough stuff I seem to stop reading. :( Go figure!!! Tina, how is it going? I know you have had a tough time lately!! I think about you often. I haven't gotten to see my friend yet. She should be moved to a reg. room today or tomorrow. The only this is that tomorrow I have no time to get up there to see her and then I'm leaving for San Antonio on Sunday. I told her that I was going so she knows it. I'll call and check on her in the morning. Well, I cleaned the carpet today. It looks so nice and clean!!! If it only stayed that way. Mom has her hip surgery on Monday. I plan on taking both of their cars for oil changes and will redo her porchswing. It needs to be stripped and repainted. It will be a nice surprise for her. Hope ya'll have a nice evening!!! |
It's Saturday,
Tammy, I think you are great!!!!!! How's that for a good lift on Saturday!!!!!:s: Susan, I have good days and some that are soooo stressful. Thank you for thinking of me. I hope your friend does well. I hope your mother is doing well. Tina |
Ya'll have a GREAT Sunday! Make sure you do something for yourself!!!
|
Susan,
I hope everything goes well with your mom's surgery. Take care...Sis ((((hugs)))) |
Susan, I think the book is called Self Matters. I enjoyed reading it, and I think I'll enjoy it even more if I do the "homework". Prayers for your mother as she goes through her surgery. Can you come to my house and do some things for me? lol
Tina, thanks for the lift on Saturday morning!!! Today was great. After church, we came home, changed clothes, jumped in the car and drove to a state park about an hour from here. We even took the dog! We got some walking in and just plain relaxation! Drove to Oxford (home of Miami University, where I went to school) and checked things out, stopped at KFC, drove back to the state park and ate. It was so much fun. We used to do that kind of thing, but it seems like we are always so busy doing other things. I printed some things out about diabetes (even though my count wasn't high enough to call it that yet). Need to go read it. |
Yikes! I forgot to mention that the doctor called yesterday about noon and said no blood clots!! My glucose level is up, but my cholesterol level is down since January. He wants both numbers to go down. Oh boy! I've been reading alot of things online about diabetes (number isn't that high but getting closer). I want to attack it now instead of waiting till I am an official diabetic.
|
Tammy, that's great news from the doctor!!!!!!!
I wish my colesteral level was lower. It just seems to always be above 200. The doctor is always puzzled because my "bad" colesterol level is always okay. Go figure. Glad you are doing okay. It sounds like you had a great Sunday. Tina |
Susan, the book I'm reading by Dr. Phil is Life Strategies. Have no idea where I got that other title! Duh!
Dr. called yesterday and he wants me to have another ultrasound, this one of the neck. What does that have to do with my leg going numb???? Oh well, I guess he knows what he's doing. |
H everyone!
Well, Hurricane Claudette went to our south and we are very happy. We didn't get much of the Eastside water, either. That's a blessing. Like Tammy, we've been getting lots of rain lately. Tammy, the doctor probably wants to rule out a blockage in your neck. My mother's cardiologist is having her take an ultrasound of the carotid artery in her neck--as a check-up. She had one of those ultrasounds after she had her stroke 3 years ago. Oops, I didn't mean to scare you by saying all this. I hope Susan is enjoying her stay in San Antonio. I hope her mother is doing well. Sheree-----are you still with us, girl???? If I don't mention everyone by name, please don't feel offended. Please come back and post!!! Tina |
I thought of you and the hurricane!! Glad everyone is OK.
Someone else had mentioned about the neck and strokes, so I wasn't surprised when I read your message Tina. My dad had some heart problems, and he went to the same doctor that I go to, so I know Doug wants to be thorough. Great news!! Tim's Eagle Scout Project Proposal was approved! We just found out today. NOW we can finally get started on it!! Hooray!! Hopefully, he'll have everything for his project completed by Thanksgiving, and he should have his Eagle Ceremony (if all goes right) next spring. We are very excited! I've been to Curves 3 days in a row! I'm planning to go tomorrow, but I'm taking Friday off because I'm doing band uniform fittings at the school. Hope everyone has a super weigh in this week!! |
