Default 50 or more pounds # 102

If you have 50 or so pounds to lose, or are losing, this is the group for you! So jump on in and join; you'll be sure to get a warm welcome!

JOYce, we were posting at the same time; just saw your message. I sure hope the x-ray results turn out ok, and that the doctor has you feeling better asap! Just gave me chills thinking about the awful fall you took! Be sure to get plenty of rest while you recover. I hadn't heard about the lost kayaker; glad they found him! I doubt I'll ever go that far away from shore to get lost, but just in case, I usually take my cell phone with me.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Talking Good news!

I was able to postpone Jury duty til November! so we don't have to get home quite as fast. That gives us one more day.
I skipped Oct, in anticipation of our reunion, a friends wedding, a doll show etc. But should be thru before Thanksgiving.

Also I found out (I hope it is true) that since dgd is almost 18, she won't have to wait the 6 months with permit to get DL. so maybe she will be able to drive when school starts. Would save me 7:00 a.m. trips every morning! and will free up my afternoons...you know Seniors just can't ride the school bus with the under classmen! No, I really do understand. She goes on Friday to get her permit. I think I am as anxious as she is, except for having to go thru the learning stages with her. She does have 6 hrs paid for with the driving school, so hope she is a fast learner.

Jan, I am getting plenty of rest, it was a chilling experience!
As part of the ER doctors discharge instructions, he wrote"be careful" DUH!

I'm so glad you are home and back on the boards...

Jan, welcome home! It was fun to be able to keep in touch with you on your travels. Thanks so much for checking in so often.

Dh and I talked about it, and we have decided to travel to OK to go to THE WEDDING of JOYce and dh's granddaughter at the end of August. It will be wonderful to see the girls and the groom again, we are looking forward to it so much.

I weighed myself yesterday and found that I have lost two pounds since I broke my ankle. Dh and I have been eating fewer high-point foods, and it has really made a diff. I'm looking forward to being able to exercise again.

Texaslady, how's the job going?

Hello to Carol and Janet -- how are you doing?

Hi girls -

Linda - Actually I am still at the "old job" right now. I offered to stay the full 2 weeks because we are in the frantic throws of the August 6 court docket - this is always the worse week and one of the girls is on vacation - so the Trustee actually let me stay. Don't think he had much choice! I will start the "new" old job Aug 6. So glad to hear you are getting around better now.

Jan - Welcome home again - and I know what happened to your summer---------You spent it traveling all over the place! School starts here Aug 14 (I think). This week-end is the No Sales Tax buying spree so I think I will stay far, far away from all store which might have ANY back-to-school clothes in them! This heat is oppressive -

Carol - So glad everyone is settled in & dsil got a job already - that's ALWAYS good! I am happy you and Jan & her dh were able to meet in Florida - has she talked you into coming for the annual 3FC reunion at her place in October??

Joyce - Omigosh! Don't you know we "seniors" don't take to falls very well - especially on concrete??? Do you have the x-ray results yet? You were lucky you didn't break any one of many bones which could have broken in such a fall --- I can't believe the wedding is already so close - but then tomorrow in the first of August and I have a hard time believing that too. Our wedding was almost a year ago already! And I am getting ready to think about homecoming mums again!

Janet - We are all waiting to hear about your diagnosis. Let us know! Hope you are feeling better now.

Re my "new" old job - There are still the same old folks there with a couple exceptions. I have been meeting with 4 of the ladies there on a regular basis - we usually meet for dinner about every 6 weeks. It will be great to see them every day again now.

Gotta go - everyone enjoy what's left of this week. Man, the days pass SO FAST!

Default X-ray results!

I have reason for my hurting! There are 2 non-displaced fractures! on the 7th and 8th ribs. Nothing to do for them but take it easy and take pain pills. but it is good to know there is a reason for my discomfort. I will never understand whey they didn't do 'rib x-rays' when that is what I told them was hurting and feeling like something was poking me! Who knew that the ribs don't show clearly on a chest x-ray!! Live and learn.
BUT, I am feeling better every day.

How about that Amber alert!!!! so glad the girls are safe, and found so quickly!! PTL!!!

Default IT WORKED!

I am praising the Lord that the two teen girls were found today--and thanking Him for prompting the good people of TEXAS for having pushed the "Amber alert" warning system through. They said on the news that the sheriff's department in the desert area had JUST put it into practice last Friday. Praise Him!

JOYce has invited me to go out to lunch with her next week, so we'll be hobbling, side by side, all the way to the door of the restaurant....

Texaslady, am thinking of you today as you start your new "old" job! Hope you are having a great day!

JOYce, I can't believe they didn't check the ribs in the first place! And that's a hoot about the "be careful" directive; duh is right! But I'm glad they were "non-displaced" (not that I have any idea what that means, but it sounds good!) and that you didn't have to have a brace or cast or such.

Linda, congrats on losing the two pounds! Way to go! Hope you and JOYce enjoy your outing; sounds like fun!

Nothing much happening here; am just getting chores done and such, and getting ready for school. Found a few new shirts and skirts in SA, and some new sandals and boots. Good thing I found Ross; nothing I buy there is over $13 (except the boots) and most average under $10. Now all I need is a bigger closet! Poor DH only gets 1/4 of the space for his stuff now.

Just wish I could lose this last ten pounds or so and get to my personal goal! Have been good about journalling, but not always staying w/in points, so have stayed the same all summer. Darn. But I WILL get there!!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Hi Claudia! So glad you joined our thread; welcome! And major kudos on your 6 pound loss; that is terrific! And only five more to reach goal? Great!
I really admire you for going to your WI today in spite of a bad weekend; that's the kind of determination that will get you to goal. A temporary setback, like a bad weekend, is just that: temporary.
When you reach goal, are you planning to become a lifetime member?

Hi to Texaslady, Carol, JOYce, Linda, and Janet! Hope everyone is having a great week ...

Default Welcome Claudia

Glad to have you aboard Claudia.
I guess yo have seen how very supportive these gals can be!
it feels like I have known them forever!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I live in Calif. and have close to 100 pounds to lose. I do too much yo-yoing.

I am married, have 4 grown children, 10 grandkids and 4 great grands. I am retired from teaching. I enjoy all kinds of crafts, and collect dolls. My husband works in aerospace, and has retired twice but keeps going back for more.

JAN, thanks for the info. It looks like we will surely get down your way. I will get you a date ASAP! we need to sit down and figure it out...we leave in 10 days! YIKES!!

Linda and I had a nice lunch today, it was good to get together with her again...we both hobbled along like little old ladies...her with her foot in a big walking boot, and me hanging on to my sore ribs! We had to giggle about it!

dgd had her senior pictures taken yesterday, she was so beautiful after getting her hair and make-up done! she has never worn any make-up, so I took her to Merle Norman for them to do it. Figured she will need some products to use for the wedding, she is a bridemaid for her sister . I asked the photographer if he had ever had a grandma just break down and cry during a photo shoot...the tears were very close!
did I mention that she passed her DMV written test with flyng colors!! didn't miss any!

Default Welcome, Claudia!

Hi, Claudia -- welcome to the thread! As JOYce said, I think you'll find the ladies here very supportive and kind.

I am a lifetimer, not at goal; I have about 15 pounds to lose until I am back down to my goal weight. I haven't been attending the meetings (which is probably why I fell off the wagon and gained the 15 pounds, believe me, you need those meetings for inspiration). I am trying to lose the weight by myself by being careful what I eat. Up til about a week ago, I hadn't been counting points (therefore I have been keeping the 15 pounds on), but now that I have started back trying to stay OP, I am expecting to lose some at what I hope will be a steady clip. My dh and I are retired; he was able to take a very early retirement about 5 years aqo, and I haven't worked outside the home for about 28 years, so we spend our time doing things together such as taking road trips, garage saling, gardening and so on. We have one daughter who is 24 and married, no grandchildren as of yet, though!

Congrats on your six-pound loss, that is just super! Keep up the good work, and keep posting!

Claudia, don't worry, one day you WILL be just five pounds from goal, and then AT goal! You're off to a great start!

JOYce, I am so excited to hear that you'll be able to visit! We are really looking forward to it. Glad to hear you and Linda enjoyed your lunch together yesterday, and that you are taking care of those injured ribs.

Linda, any chance of y'all visiting us as well, now that you're heading to Oklahoma too? Would love to meet y'all!

Your resolve to count points this week is so encouraging; I know we can do this! I bought another of those 12-week points books last week, and have started the pebbles-and-jar thing again. I'm trying to reach my personal goal before the end of November, when our whole family is going on a cruise together to celebrate Dad's birthday. That's 111 days, and I'm hoping to lose 13 pounds (or at least reach the "kerchunk" at 150!)

Texaslady, how is the "new" job going? Janet, hope you've had good news from your doctors lately; drop in and say hi! Carol, I keep looking for airline tckt sales for October; hmm, have you tried Hotwire? We've gotten some good deals there.

Guess I'd better run; am taking Dad to another appointment this afternoon. (He's doing fine.) Hope everyone' s having a great week! This is my last week of vacation, sigh.
Regards,
Jan

Angry You gals are AWSOME!!!!!!!

HI! its me again! I cant beleived how sweet you guys are! Thank you JanetMae, Gmalil, and Linda Jean for all your support.
I am only 23 years old (I know I am young) and I had a serious eating disorder not too long ago (high school) I was bulimic for four years took all sorts of laxatives and made myself vomit everytime I ate or thought i ate too much. This caused a great constraint on my esophagus and on my kidneys (never drank any water) I was down to 95 pounds (I am 5"2). After one of my kidneys went I was at a hospital for two weeks and I balloned up to 117 (I wish I was there again) then I got married (husband was extrememly supportive ) and of course my metabolism was so screwed up from always starving myself that I gained 50 pounds in one year. So my highest weight has been 171 pounds I am down to 159 (six pounds since WW and six pounds from before by watching what I eat). This is the first time In my life that I have realized that in order to lose weight the right way I must be commited to a LIFETIME program not a quick gimmick. I tried everything before from Larry North to Richard Simmons to Hollywood Diet etc etc but nothing like WW. This diet is for the REAL people. I can cook for both my husband and I and still lose weight, I can eat out, I can special order, I can save my points for a b-day party and eat my cake. By the way I started WW 3 weeks ago and I have been losing 2 pounds per week.
I love the meetings and the support and now that I have found you all wonderful cyber-friends I feel even better.
Thanks girls for all the great words and encouragement. I promise I will do the same.
God Bless you all- Claudia

Oh, Claudia, bless your heart. I am so sorry to hear of your eating disorder and your resulting health problems. Do you still have the use of both kidneys, I hope? What a blessing that the Lord sent you the dh he did, who is so supportive of you. That is priceless, isn't it. I think that your having lost two pounds a week doing WW is wonderful, it shows that you are really committed to this healthy new lifestyle. I too, appreciate the WW way of eating in that you have the freedom to eat a piece of cake when "necessary" without blowing your eating plan, if you have planned it into your daily points. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? There are lots of low-point foods and snacks available there. I am blessed in that there's a Trader Joe's only about 7 minutes from our house. Thanks for sharing that part of your life with us.

Jan, thank you for the invitation to visit you, your dh and your Dad, but I'm afraid that we won't be able to do it this time. We only have a certain amount of time we can be gone (financially speaking!), and wouldn't be able to take the extra few days. I am so looking forward to meeting you, texaslady, Carol and Janet, I know that I will get to one day. I just think it is wonderful that JOYce and her dh will be able to visit you during their trip.

Today was very hot and humid, too. This summer we've had more of a humidity problem than we usually do. It is no fun! Makes me realize what some of you ladies go through in your summers, being further south than we are.
