  • 1. Protien powder: Not a fan. I'm not vegan and feel that I get sufficient protein from eggs, beans and other legumes.
    2. Artificial sweeteners: Got really sick from sorbitol once. I'd rather have honey than stevia, just seems more wholesome to me.
    3. Breads: Try to buy brands that have the shortest ingredient list. I'm not gluten free, which makes my search easier but if you are, be very careful.
If you have questions about whole grains, I suggest you read this article. Joy McCarthy has a great book and free tips on her blog and I can't recommend her enough:

I'm also trying to cut down on bread so try experimenting with lentils, brown rice, millet, spelt, oatmeal, barley, etc. Not all of these are gluten free but what's important is that they are whole. The problem with store-bought bread is that it's often loaded with unnecessary ingredients and additives. Again, if you must have bread, I recommend one with a very short (about 5) ingredient list.

Good luck and hope this helps!!
