Red face Anyone else nervous about the holidays?

So, I've been having a rough few weeks (yet again) and then I realized that the dreaded holidays are coming. For me, the struggle will be with the candy sales on Nov. 1 Then, I have to get thru my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's...

I'm worried that I won't be able to get thru the holiday frenzy if I'm having so much trouble in the weeks preceding them. Is anyone else a little nervous? I don't need advice just reassurance that I'm not the only one!!

I feel the same way. I have been writing out and trying to plan in advance what I will eat based on my daily points plus the flax points this holiday season. I always worry about gaining during the holidays. November 1, the day after Halloween I am at the stores buying the discounted candy even though I know I don't need it. I am going to try and be smarter this time after I buy the candy(because I know I am going to buy the candy). I will separate the candy out in little sandwich baggies and write the points on the bags. Because if I eat out of the bag I know I am going to go over my points and be off program for who knows how long. You are not along in your worry I am right there with you.

No seconds and counting out candy beforehand are great tips! My leader said that rather than buying a discounted bag of candy, just buy a candy bar and get the craving over with. I might try that this year so that I don't feel like I'm "missing out" on the Halloween stuff. She also said that maintaining is more realistic than losing when it comes to the holidays so that's what I'm going to shoot for this year. Good luck everyone!

I am TERRIFIED of the holidays!!!! Especially since I have having TWO Thanksgiving dinners! One here at my moms, and then the next day we're traveling to Maine to visit my husband's parents for a second dinner. I'm trying not to think about it too much, but I need to start making a game plan for this!

Look at the food that you could have any day that is with your holidays meals as just normal everyday food (I mean if you can have mashed potatoes any day of the year why have them or a lot of them on your holiday dinner plate). So plan for the treats you realy want Aunt Becky's pecan pie (have a small slice) or Uncle Roy's fabulous smoked salmon.

In reality eating at home, or at a holiday dinner or even out is the same thing. You plan and stick to you.

You said 'holiday candy sales' so store it in the freezer and take out only a piece here and there.

Yep what Kelly said. I've been on WW through a few holidays in the past. Some holidays have gone well and some haven't. If you are going to meetings, then they will have a bunch of strategies to get you through. I have found that I enjoy a small helping just as much if not more than a huge helping. It tastes just as yummy. Just do not leave yourself too hungry or your good intentions run the risk of flying out the window.

There are a bunch of pumpkin pie recipes out there that are skinnier than the normal and they are yummy. I always serve one of those for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I indulge in a few goodies but as Kelly said, enjoy it and count it. This program is not about "you can't have it" - it's about taking accountability for it and to indulge in correct portions.

Hugs - it'll be okay

I am going to reduce the fat in our normal holiday meals, just by substituting a few ingredients can make a huge point difference...I intend to eat whatever I want on Thanksgiving....and go right back to counting points the day after, it has worked for me before and I usually dont gian at all through the actual holidays, it is when I get lazy about January that I tend to start packing back on the pounds.... which I am gonna do my very best to not do this coming year, I always want to look good at my hubbys Christmas party at work, and after all of that is over I used to just quit for awhile ....No more of that nonsence right ladies

the meal itself doesn't kill me .. i can behave on those .. its the fact that the leftovers are usually left at my house!! am hoping this year its at someone else's house .. so I don't have to worry about pickin constantly at em for days after!

Owira, a new thing that we've done the last few years at Thanksgiving and Christmas is to have one person bring several packages of gladware containers instead of a dish to share. When everyone is done eating, we start dividing up the leftovers into the gladware containers, and then divide the containers into plastic grocery bags in the fridge. As each "family" leaves, they take a bag with them. That way everyone gets a taste of the leftovers and the host/hostess isn't stuck trying to figure out what to do with turkey for the next week. It works out great!
