Good morning everyone! It's going to be hot in Florida, but that's how it is this time of year. We have another storm to watch--Florence. Let's hope she falls apart.
What a busy weekend. My brother and family came to my part of the state for a baseball tournament. Then we frolicked in the ocean and had a nice visit. (I drank a little too much, though). Then on Sunday, DH and I drove to St. Petersburg to visit my parents. It rained most of the time, but we had a pretty good visit. Managed to squeeze in 9 holes of golf.
A full week coming up. I have play rehearsal tonight and my professional group board meeting on Wednesday night.
I need to get back on track this week eating wise; this weekend I ate way too much and I feel it today.
Hi Lisa and everyone. I'm back at the office after a lengthy break and it feels rather strange. I'm sure I'll be back into the swing of things soon though; I have a busy week ahead with major meetings and an overnight business trip on Wednesday.
Australia was amazing and whetted my appetite for more. My friend and I got on well together, given that we had never actually spent that much time together. We love all of the same foods, both like to run, hike, etc so the match was great. We both agree that I have to go back to take up where we left off.
I have so many amazing memories - endless beaches in Queensland, the Blue Mountains, kangaroos, Cirque du Soleil's Varekai, Pirates of Penzanze at the Sydney Opera House, rainforest walks, nice-looking Ozzie men with that cute accent. It was good for my soul.
The only down side was my arrival back home to not one but two different infections that had me very sick with a high fever for most of last week. The antibiotic has done its work, though, and I am feeling much better. The only good thing to come out of that was a four pound weight loss that has me back into the 140s for the first time in two years. But it was a tough way to get here, believe me.
Lisa: We had rain all weekend and the Germanfest did terrible. Saturday was cold and very rainy--only 300 people came through the gate. Sunday wasn't much better--a few sprinkles but there was a lot of mud! We got 60 bales of hay to put down to help with the mud. Instead of having 6000 people for the fest we had only 2500 *sigh* gotta love Mother Nature. Yesterday I did a little running around and played catch up from Saturday/Sunday.
Susan: Welcome back!!! I would love to visit Australia just to see the beaches, etc. My old boss was there years ago and loved it. Congrats on the weight loss!!! I wish I could say I was down but I'm not. I'm still struggling with the weight I put on back at the beginning of the year and it's been a battle. I'm getting to the point that I'm tired of fighting!
My eating over the weekend wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Sunday/Monday night I succumbed to Fritos. I only had one beer over the course of Saturday/Sunday so that was good. Lisa, I need to get back on track too. Today I'm going out to lunch with my boss and his wife; this afternoon there's a retirement party for a secretary who has been here as long as I have.
It's dreary here again this morning and the temps are holding at 62...it's supposed to be cool all week with rain today and tomorrow.
Susan, yes, welcome back. Your trip sounds wonderful. Sorry, though about the infection. I hope you're on the mend. Congrats on the weight loss--keep it off now.
Melissa, so Ernesto messed you folks up too. There's nothing worse than an outdoor festival with rain!
Welcome back Susan! I'm glad you had such a nice time on vacation, it sounds like you and your friend are a good match. I've heard the beaches in Queensland are amazing, I would definately like to vacation there someday. Glad to hear you're feeling better and congrats on the loss. You really are getting close to goal!
Melissa your weekend sounds a lot like mine. It rained the entire weekend. I'm sorry the weather spoiled the Germanfest, I know how much you enjoy it. I tried to make the most of it by staying indoors and shopping for my upcoming vacation, only 2 more weeks!
Lisa I think I've only golfed 3 times this entire summer. The weather here this year has been awful. It rained pretty much the entire months of May and June. I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and picked up Nora Ephron's new book " I Feel Bad About My Neck". It's so funny, it's about all the maintenance routines women have once they reach a "certain" age.
Good afternoon! This morning started off with some thunderstorms and this afternoon has been sunny and cool. Can't complain there!
Pam: That book sounds really good--I may have to pick it up for my upcoming Chicago trip!
Lala: Yes, we had some diehards come out to the festival on Saturday despite all the rain. It's amazing how far those hurricanes can cause trouble.
On an up note I was down .6 at today's meeting. I'm not complaining, I'm taking it as a gift. My eating hasn't been the best over the last couple of days--I've been going from one thing to another and looking at the calendar it's PMS cravings--you know the vicious cycle of salt to sweet, etc. Anyway, I'm trying to keep things under control. I went for a quick 10-minute walk this morning and am planning on walking tomorrow morning and noon. At some point this weight has got to start moving!
The topic this week was a good one dealing with back to school supplies and how we can relate them to WW supplies. I need to look at some cookbooks and try some new recipes! With the cooler temps soups and stews sound good.
No major plans for this evening--I'm glad it's a short week. We have our appreciation banquet on Friday evening for our volunteer orientation staff and it's always good--grilled chicken breast, green beans, twice baked potatoes, salad and dessert (usually a rich chocolate cake).
My allergies are acting up a little with the damp weather we've been having. Not too much else going on here--hope everyone is having a good week!
Hi to Julie, Liz, Pam, Lisa, Susan, Austingal! I hope I didn't leave someone out! Have a great evening ladies!
Melissa, congrats on the loss. I'd take whatever I could get. I've been craving salty stuff like mad. I can't blame PMS though. Aaah, cool weather. That must be refreshing. I love soup, but when it's so hot, it doesn't do much for me.
Melissa - I loved that topic. I thought about it and dug out some old cookbooks and then bought the new "mexican" light WW cookbook, which is a bit dissapointing, but still has a few gems.
I also went out and bought a bunch of new school supplies and donated them to the needy kids so I felt better.
Okay, at home here today, working while letting ernest the desert dog out. He's feeling great today as it is cool. He believes that i should get up and move every 20 minutes or so.
Lisa - how are those florida tomatoes? Have you made any gazpacho yet this year?
How is everyone else?
Today is our 15th anniversary. I started the morning out by saying "did the dog just throw up?", DP said that that was a nice way to start the next 15 years.
Okay, back to recalculating populations at risk...
lala: Happy Anniversary. I howled with laughter when I read your greeting to DP.
Melissa: Congrats on the loss. I'm looking forward to "winter" recipes too. I have one for squash soup that is especially good (and easy).
Lisa: Don't envy the hot weather you continue to endure. I love autumn!
Well, I got the call that I was dreading last night. My ex called to let me know that he was starting to date. Didn't want me to hear it from someone else. I am grateful for the heads up but sad too for the loss of our lives together. I registered in an on-line dating service a few months ago but only allowed my profile to be viewable this past week - coincidentally. My heart is definitely not in this, but perhaps in time...
Susan, I did enjoy autumn too when I lived up north. Squash soup sounds good, would you post it? Sorry about your ex, but it is good that he told you. Those online dating services...my sister tried it and found that everyone lied.
lala, yes, that was a great greeting on your anniversary. Actually I haven't had any local tomatoes. Don't have any friends with gardens and the tomatoes we get are from the west coast or Latin America.
Lala: Happy 15th! I got a nice chuckle about your morning greeting. I agree with you on the new cookbook, there are a few gems but for the most part nothing spectacular. I may try one of the recipes this weekend. I found a recipe for "hot" gazpacho that I may try out this weekend. I'm into making soups lately
Susan: I can imagine it was bittersweet hearing from your ex. With time things will heal, it's just hard to keep moving forward some days. You're a survivor and it will all come together! I don't know that I'd trust the online dating services, but that's just me.
Lisa: We haven't had any major explosion of tomatoes from our garden--I'll be going out to buy some so that I can do some canning. DH and I did the last of our hot peppers. I decided to take the easy way out and did them up as rings. They look so pretty in the jars
Ladies, I don't know about you but I am SO glad it's Friday! It's been a long week and this morning I feel so sluggish! I had a terrible time with eating last evening--I went from one thing (jalapeno tortilla chips) to another (Dove dark chocolate) and still wasn't satisfied! Ugh! This morning I swear my thighs are bigger and it seems like I can feel the excess jiggling as I walk! Eeek!
No major plans for the weekend--it's supposed to rain here on Saturday so I may try to do some closet de-cluttering but we'll see if the mood strikes me. DS #1 is looking to purchase a laptop...Lala do you have an recommendations? I haven't purchased any new computer stuff in a long time!
Anyone have anything exciting planned for the weekend?
I'm leaving soon to drive three miles to TJ's just to keep myself away from the cheetos here.
My eating has been abyssmal.
I threw out a bag of baked tortilla chips and about to do the same with some other snacky foods.
We leave for Utah and New Mexico (by car) next week. Yikes.
Susan - I don't know what to say, but I'm glad he called you before you found out from someone else, but still, it hurts. I think you'll know when it is time to throw your hat in the dating pool or someone just sparks and that will be a good sign.
Lisa - it sounds good to me (your weekend plans)...
Melissa - as for laptops, I am thinking mac with a good waranty. There a decent educational discounts out there right now. I want to buy one right now because my home laptop is heavy and my work laptop has to be encrypted for security. I don't even want to take it anymore unless its for "official travel".
Sigh.
So, 1100 bucks will get you a decent mac that will last a few years.
Finding odd bobs of communities that I thought I had modelled, but no luck. Must try and finish up this today.
