Good Morning All!!
Princess, the reason your clothing is getting bigger while the scale is not showing a loss might be because you’re exercising. A pound of fat takes up more volume than a pound of muscle. So you could be gaining muscle and yet losing fat. This is a good thing. We want to get rid of fat. Did you take your measurements when you first started? I’d be willing to bet you’ve lost inches. How much water are you drinking? They tell us in our meetings to drink 6 8oz glasses. Is that all you’re getting? I know for myself when I was drinking only 42oz a day I wasn’t really losing weight but since I increased my water intake to 100oz or more a day I’ve been steadily losing it. You’re staying in your points and that’s good. But are you eating your flex points and AP too? If not you might not be getting enough to sustain your activites. I’ve never tried the Wendie Plan but I’ve heard it works for some. You might try it to see if it works. Keep us posted if you do because I might have to try it too. :)
Selena, I think it’s great that you and DH attend WW together. I wish I had an in-person buddy like that. I think it might be a little bit easier. Right now I have my mom who’s keeping me accountable. She calls me every Sunday at 2:45 to see how I did at my 2:00 meeting. I don’t want to let her down by saying I didn’t go so I’ve gone to every meeting since I stated. Truly that’s the reason I go some days. But it’s also hard because she’s two hours away. Oh well, a little bit of support is better than no support, right. :D You’ve got 10 lbs left for your MDC. I think that’s totally doable. And just think when you celebrate your 2nd anniversary you’ll have that to celebrate too. Jenn, IMHO you’re doing a good thing making a menu before you go shopping. I tend to go overboard on sweets if I don’t. Plus when I don’t plan what I’m having I tend to go over on points. Most of the SmartOnes I’ve had are good but I think it’ll depend on your taste. Some I don’t care for but my sister likes them. I shop at United and will say they have a nice variety of foods and if you’ll bring the ads from Lowe’s and Albertson’s they’ll match them for you. Which is good because one of them usually has their SmartOnes on sale. :) Market Street on 50th and Indiana is the one I use and they have a nice selection of SmartOnes. Cyket, I want you to know you’re inspiring me. I’ve gotten on my treadmill after a long day at work after reading that you’re getting on yours. And the funny thing is I feel better afterwards too. I’ve even included it in my To Do list every day just so I’ll make time to do it (cause I hate having something left over on my To Do list). Thanks for the inspiration. Morrigan…I’ve been thinking about you and the little bites you eat. I can understand not wanting to throw good food out. A lot of us were raised that way. I know I was. I’ve starting doing two things that seem to help me. First of all, I went through all my cabinets and took out all the food I knew I shouldn’t eat. I took it to my friend’s house and told her I didn’t care what she did with it as long as she didn’t tell me. That way I wasn’t actually throwing good food out, she was. The second thing I’m doing is whenever there are leftovers instead of eating them up (which I tended to do too) I put them away. I ‘save’ them for another time. I will either eat them the next day or about once a week I have a leftover’s day (usually Sunday when I’m running all day) and everything I don’t eat I throw out. So when the kids have leftover bagels or soup or whatever put it away for later use. Maybe if you know it’ll be used later you won’t feel like it’s going to waste. Hope that helps some. :) Jeanette…don’t worry about getting off track. I think most of us have at one point or another. The most important thing is that you’ve come back. And we’re glad you did. 10lbs is a very doable goal. I think most people have about that as their goal. Come back and post often. It’s helped me tons to stay on track just to be ‘accountable’ to the people here. It helps keep my goal in my mind everyday. OMG Ms. Sassy…you won’t believe this but I’ve been following Morrigan for a while too. I’m about 5’2” myself and although I started about 10lbs heavier than ya’ll, Morrigan (and now you) has spurred me on as well. It’s a personal challenge with myself to stay up with ya’ll. So far I’m losing BUT I know that I will catch up to ya’ll. I haven’t wanted to say anything because I didn’t want anyone to think I was trying to win or something. Shari, Do you put anything in your oatmeal? What kind do you use? I’m not a big oatmeal fan but I’m thinking I might have to learn to like it. Everyone’s telling me how great it is. Can you put fresh berries and stuff like that in it? Welcome to our challenge, JigglyBits. I keep a daily foods journal on my computer as well, although not online. What do you use? Are you keeping your mood and confessions online too? I use a myspace blog to do that. I’ve been a bit lazy about it lately though….i’m thinking I should start working on it again. Amy..congrats on the .8 loss. It’s great that you lost when you thought you gained. And just think when the MDC is over you’ll be at or below what you were when you were dating your hubby. I’m getting all goosebumply thinking about it for ya. Good luck… Hello, Bev. Welcome to our challenge and to the forum. You’ll find lots of inspiration here. My first experience on this forum was the V-day challenge. It was great for me. Helped me stay focused. Let us know if you need anything. :) Missliz…great goals. I like that you’re journaling every thing you eat. Something that helps me is at the end of the day I always add 1 or 2 points for Misc. Bites, Licks, and Tastes. That way I know I’ve counted them. Sometimes, if I’ve had a ‘bad’ day with my blt’s I’ll add more. Are you training for anything? I’m training for a 5K using the couch to 5k program. I’m hoping to run one this year. Ok, I've typed enough for now. Gotta get back to work. :( I almost said have a great weekend until I realized this isn’t Friday…it’s only Thursday. Ok…this week really needs to be over. Have a good Thursday everyone! |
Hello, I am Wendy.
I would like to join the Challenge. I was going to say 10% of my weight...I am starting at 215. that is 21 lbs. For 5 weeks...that is 5 lbs per week. So I thing I will go with 5% of my weight. 10.75 lbs. Or Rounding up to 11 lbs. Although I will be working on that 21 lbs. I know that is ambitious but I know I can do it...If I put my mind to it... My other Goal is to exercise for The challenge will be to work out Monday Thru Friday. (starting Monday) That is 25 days of cardio, 45 minutes a day. And I want to add 20 minutes to that. So my goal for the Month of May and the last week of April will be 900 Minutes of Cardio. My Weigh ins are on Monday Mornings. |
Chrissy: Thanks for the input! I appreciate it... I drink at least a gallon of water a day, that has never been a problem for me since I like water and don't really drink anything other then water. My DH is a WW also and I know that men lose faster but he has lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks... that is just hard to take when I have struggled just to lose 9.2 in 6 weeks... oh well... I will just keep on chugging along. I think that I am going to try the Wendy plan and see how it works out for me... maybe it will get my motor running a bit :D
Have to run but have a great day all! Princess |
Hey everybody! Hope your day is going well so far.
Chrissy--I'm doing C25k, too! I'm on week 7. I actually did the program once about 3 years ago. It worked, I was able to jog 5k and more, and I did a half-marathon with a friend, which was a lot of fun. I ran/walked the half-marathon--couldn't run that far, but we did run most of it. This time, I plan to keep it up, and be able to run the entire 13.1 miles someday. Since I need to get exercise anyway, I figure I may as well have a goal to work toward--walking or elliptically all the time gets boring. Running is more exciting because I'm improving all the time. However, I can't say that I enjoy running too much. Also, running motivates not to skip a workout because I'm afraid I will lose some of what I worked so hard for. Princess--9.2 pounds in six weeks is not bad. That is a significant weight loss. But I know it can be discouraging when you don't lose as fast as expected, because you work so hard. It's especially when someone else is losing so much faster. My roommate and I both started losing weight at the beginning of the semester, and she loses so much faster than I do. She doesn't exercise at all, and eats the same or more calories than I do. She's a lot taller than I am, and for whatever reason she just loses weight faster. It seems unfair sometimes, but I'm sure there's someone out there who loses even slower than I do. Just keep it up...think about how much that weight loss will add up in the next few months. Have to get back to studying, but I hope everyone has a great day! Liz |
Edited because I accidentally posted twice.

I am such a bad runner - I am only fast in water and on snow.
I have been trying to really beef up my exercise this week. Last week was the first week after the ski season closed and I did NOTHING. Today I rode my bike to school (11 miles). I really should ride home, but home is mostly uphill and rather more of a workout than I like. I used to ride all the time, but now that I have to run 2K to babysitters before work, I need my car. I only get to ride when my DH watches them at home (about once a week) and only if it isn't raining. I am a fair weather biker. |
Would like to join!
I'm doing weight watchers, and have lost seven pounds so far, it's taken me awhile, but at least it's gone!

Hey all you gals! I am new here and I would like to get in on this challenge. How do I do it? I don't have my profile up and running yet as far as what my weight is and stuff. I am 5'7 at 191lbs. And my goal is to reach 140. But I would like to try to lose at least 10 by Memorial Day!

The scale is moving!
:carrot: Well the scale is moving in a downward direction so that is a very good feeling :carrot:
Excited about W/I tomorrow and seeing how much further I have to go to reach my MD goal. Hope all is well with everyone! Have a great weekend! Princess |
Good Afternoon, Everyone. Wait…make that Good FRIDAY afternoon. :) I don’t know about ya’ll but I’m so ready for the weekend. I normally am but even more so this week I think. Mom’s coming in so we’ll see how well I stay OP. I will say though she tends to help me more than hurt. She’s very supportive of my WL journey.
How is everyone doing today? Mine is going pretty well. I didn’t get up early and run like I had planned but I did run/walk for 62 minutes on my treadmill last night so that makes me feel good. I’m doing the couch to 5k training program….anyone interested in running a 5k should look into it. It’s really helped me. Just google couch to 5k and the link will come up. :) I’m still pretty slow at it…only running at the same speed I walk…but it’s the idea that I’m doing it. I know I’ll pick up speed at some point. Welcome to our newbies, kobe21 and dreemin2bthin66. We’re glad you’re here with us. Come back as often as you want to give and receive support. :) Quote:
OK...question time...I see serveral of you have mentioned lifting weights. I'd like to start that. Can you recommend a book or video or something that I can use. I'm not ready to join a gym yet (if I ever do) but I'm ready and willing to do something at home. Right now all I've been doing is running/walking on my treadmill. Well I guess I should get back to work. But I must say...I'm sure ready for the day to be over... Have a good rest of the day and weekend everybody! |
Chrissy, to start out maybe you could get a pair of small arm weights and work your arms some while on the treadmill. I got a couple inexpensive weights at Target and I do several reps of different types of curls while I'm walking. I recognize that it's not full on "lifting weights" but it's definitely making a difference and you can kill two birds with one stone- doing arm work while you're walking. No exercise time added!
And let me tell ya... just using the 3 pounders definitely is felt after a few minutes. And after a while, you can build up to the 5 pounders to work you harder. I've been doing the 3s for about 2 months and I still don't think I'm ready to go to 5. But it's something to think about, if even just ot build yourself up to full on weights. |

Ok ok...I quoted myself. lol I just had to remember what my goals were. So far so good. I'm drinking my water. I'm journaling using my Points Tracker...and this week...I've been to the gym Tuesday, Thursday and today. And I plan on heading back on Sunday. YAY ME! I went to the grocery store to get our food for a week...using some WW recipes from the site. We've been eating at or just under our points (without using our allowances)...and I feel good. I actually WANT to go the gym. Right now, though...I'm a little stinky from the gym so now I actually WANT to take a shower. HEH!:carrot: Keep up the good work people! Jenn |
Hey, just wanted to check. The last couple days have been good. Last night I went to gym at 10pm and walked for an hour, which I'm quite proud of. Often, when I wait that long to go, I end up talking myself out of it. It just feels weird to be jogging on the treadmill at 11pm! Went jogging outside this morning because it's such good weather. I hate it when I see other runners out there, because I'm soooo slow!!! I have gotten a little faster since I first started running, so maybe there's still hope. I managed a 1000 calorie deficit today in spite of a shorter than usual workout and dinner at Macaroni Grill!! And the scale is cooperating, down 2 lbs since Monday--now, if it'll just keep on going. I'm worried about tomorrow because I'm going to spend all day studying for finals, and that's a really challenging time for me. For some reason, studying makes me want to eat! Not to mention the stress of finals, makes it easy to give in to my chocolate cravings.
Jynical Congrats on meeting your goals. Keep it up! Chrissy 62 mins on the treadmill is great. And about running as slow as you walk...I've timed myself, and I can actually run/walk faster than I can just jog! How sad is that? But that's okay, we're getting faster! Princess So glad the scale is moving in the right direction for you. That's such a great feeling! |
Okay had a bit of a break here. Didn't make the April Fools challenge and now have put on weight and need to start over, I would love to join in with you guys but one question for this littlte Kiwi What day is Memorial Day?lol
