  • Good Morning to y'all...

We are a group trying to lose 100+ pounds. So pull up a computer chair and join us on our journey!

Pretty quiet in here lately. Where did everyone go? I had a pretty good weekend despite all the chaos of having my daughter home from college. She is picking up some work hours because she desperately needs the money so that has lessened some of the noise and chaos that she brings with her when she comes home. We had a very social weekend. Out with friends on Friday night to a local bar which we had a great time at! And out Saturday to a black tie event. Now, I did not realize it was a black tie event because it was related to my husband's work and did not see the invitation. So I wore some very nice black slacks and a pretty red sweater. Of course when we got there, all these women were dressed in sparkly gowns and cocktail dresses! I could have killed my husband. He kept insisting that I looked fine, but I felt very out of place. A chance to wear my sparkly clothes and I missed it! Oh, well, that is how it goes.
Well, today I am starting to exercise! I have my gymn shoes on and am going to try to start to walk on a regular basis. The weather along the coast has been prety good and with signs on spring slowly beginning to show, I need to get my rear end in gear and walk on a consistent basis. I am aiming for a 1 to 1 1/2 miles per day to start at least five days per week. I will see how it goes. I am hoping to take my shoes with me to work and put them on after I get off, so when I get home, instead of sitting in front of the TV, I will get out of my car and hit the sidewalk. I think it will be most challenging to do it on the days that I work, but I need to try.
Well, need to get going. DH is sick but still went to work! He is coming home early so I need to get a few things done! Have a great day.

    Later....GeeChee
  • Hi Gee Chee! I've not been MIA, just waiting for more people to post! Maybe that's what everyone is doing and that's why no one does!

I'd have been royally pissed at DH for the clothing snafu! The chance to wear a gown and you end up in pants-he'd SO be in the dog house! Not only feeling out-of-place - but I just LOVE to get dressed up and how often do you get the chance to do that as an adult?

Well, I had a bad Sunday food-wise...fine the rest of the time! DH and I worked at a college basketball game at the consession stand and went to dinner after. I tried to be good at the game - but got hungry and it was FREE, so chicken strips, 1/2 a brat and french fries later I really didn't need the Thai food we went out for! God only knows how many points I had that day.

The scale is now showing a 2 lbs up. I drank 112 oz of water yesterday and only ate 25 pts...we'll see if I lose any by tomorrow's WI. Could be I declared that plateau over prematurely. Then again, it's TOM - again. Due to some "female problems" I tend to get that 2 or more times a month! Time to get rid of that problem!!! Whatever.

I am trying to get more exercise. My newest technique is to park my car WAY down the street from my office and walk back at lunch time (no time in the morning) and then I have no choice but to walk back after work. I had thought I was nearly a mile from work-turns out it's only 6/10 of a mile. Still, better than nothing. I wish the weather would get warmer - still a bit chilly here for the walk. I am up to 7 minutes on the eliptical. Not great, but better than the 2 1/2 I did the first night!

Hope to hear from other folks! I like to see how everyone is doing! Must run for now.
  • Good Evening y'all,

Lilion....I am not sure where everybody is at. It seems such a shame that we started out the threads with so much enthusiasm, but now theposts seem to be just trickling now. I am not sure why that happens. But I am here for the long run....hopefully just not alone. So you lurkers, come join us. Surely we are not the only ones that need to lose weight!
I have forgeiven hubby for the clothing mistake. The truth is that I knew very few people at this function to begin with, so I doubt if I made a lasting impression on anyone with my slacks and sweater. But like you, I missed the opportunity to put on a few sparkles and I hate that the most!
I admire you determination to continue this journey despite the small bumps in the road we all meet. I am trying to face that fact that I can never be OP all the time, but just need not throw in the towel for a single bad day. If I want to do this for life, I just need to restart the next meal or next day. I am sure that you will knock those 2# off in no time!
Well, I started walking yesterday. But I had something rubbing in my shoe against my heel and by the time I got home, my heel was bleeding! So I went out and bought new shoes yesterday and in a day or two my heel should be better and I can start walking again. I am determined to start excersing again!
Well have a great night. I work in the morning and after spending the night on the guest bed since hubby is sick, I am more than tired! Later...GeeChee
  • Hello, hello, hello!

Today was WI and I lost! Yea! I was at 245 on the dot...SO happy. I was more than a little concerned at my food this week!

I got no walking in yesterday, but did 10 minutes on the eliptical! I was quite pleased with myself. I think I may have finally gotten the hang of the thing and started working with it instead of against it...it's a matter of posture and the way you move, not like normal walking at all. I'll see if I can stay at 10 for a while now. I also did very few little stretches and calesthenics - how do you spell that? I watched my son at taekwondo and saw how horribly he did them and decided to prove I could still do them...so I did leg lifts - the hold-your-heels-6"-off-the-floor type. I did this thing where you hold yourself off the floor by your toes and elbows and I did a few crunches. I can't do pushups...not even 1! But I definately need to do them more often...those exercises are tough!

My nod to walking lately has been where I park my car! I used to park (illegally) in the visitor parking. Got a ton of tickets, but the employee lots are a quarter-mile away! So now I park in the legal lots. Better yet, I often move my car at lunch or some other time to on-street free parking that is .6 miles away. That way I'm guaranteed 1.2 miles a day - to the office and back to the car at 5! It's also a really pleasant walk in a quiet neighborhood with big Victorian homes I just love to look at. I also never take the elevator anymore if I'm only doing one floor. (With 2 floors it would depend on my mood!)

I thought some folks (You are out there, aren't you?) might like to see this information! (It's from a different thread...but I have looked this up myself. Very interesting.) I've added my own thoughts.

The Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado maintains the National Weight Control Registry. To register, you must have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for at least a year. The average person on the list has lost more than twice that. They found that most maintainers had 7 habits in common. They are:
    1. Expect failure, but keep trying, In other words - don't give up after a bad point day!
    2. Don't deny yourself, Eat the ice-cream, just count it and go from there!
    3. Weigh yourself often, Weekly! At 328 I never saw a scale unless it was at a doctor's visit - didn't even own one!
    4. Do serious planned exercise, My most difficult challenge-but the eliptical is a start!
    5. Add little bits of physical activity into daily routine, Parking further away, taking the stairs, getting up and walking to your co-worker's office instead of using the phone!
    6. Followed a low fat/high carbohydrate diet, Which is what WW really is!
    7. Eat 5 meals a day. I usually have three meals and two snacks.
They also found that successful losers made many unsuccessful attemps before getting on a winning track me, more than half lost weight without help from a commercial plan or gym maybe not me - but I don't actually belong to WW, I just follow the plan, and 66% said they were chubby children me again!.

If it helps any, they also found that once you have kept your weight off for 3 years, it gets much easier to maintain. (Come-on 2009! )

Well that's all from me today! Gee Chee! Hope I see more posts from our other's soon!
  • Lilion Iam glad to have found were you moved to how have you been from the above post it looks like your rocking right along iam so exited for you i also have been doing the stairs thing except funny story i can only do it in the parking garage at work becouse no one knows were the stairs are located in the hospital isent that weird so i have been asking for like 4 weeks now still no one knows bizzare huh. well iam still posting on the wed WI thread but i haddent herd fom you so i desided to see how you are doing.

  • Lillion,

Congratulations on the loss. You are doing so awesome. That is just outstanding! And that is great to have that forced 1.2 mile walk everyday. As the temperatures get warmer, I am sure that you will enjoy the walks even more. Like you, I have to legally park quite a distance from the door that I enter for work at the hospital. And with the construction the hospital is going through, it make the walk even longer as I have to go in at one end of the hospital and the ORs are on the other end. I have not measured the distance, but it is a good haul. On some days, I am tempted to park illegally closer, but make myself park in one of the furthest spots so I can make the walk longer. It also forces me to leave a little earlier in the morning for work! I am still waiting for my heel to heal (Hummmmmm...that was kinda of fun to type...heel and heal! ) and then I will restart walking at home. I have been trying to break in my new shoes by wearing them in the house, but they still irritate my heel ( the one that is healing....LOL...Ok I will stop now ) so maybe in another day, I will give it a go!
I love your list. I printed it out and have it in my journal so I can work on incorporating all of these things into my journey. It is a awesome list and thank you for posting.
Carop...welcome. Glad you found Lilion. She is a real gem and I am glad to have found her too!
Well, off to start some laundry. Tomorrow I am off and have cleaning to start! Have a great evening!

    Later...GeeChee
  • hey guys! this week has been really crazy for me. last week, i lost .8 pounds, which i still took as a victory, since i had a margarita or two and some interesting tidbits here and there. nothing "off plan", but it wasn't my usual, and it was very high sodium. so this week, i kicked it into high gear. i ate out once, ordering veggie soup and a half of a chicken salad sandwhich on wheat bread, no mayo. but i lost .6 pounds.

now, i know you're not supposed to say "only", but geez. i really had expected to do better, and now i'm struggling with motivation. it's not that i want to quit per se, it's just that i am frustrated and bored! being healthy isn't nearly as fun as being "bad"!! LOL.

but, this is the plan i like, and i'm sticking to it. i can't change now, there's 17 less pounds of me total, and i think if i stick with it, i'll be really glad in the long run. i hope this week is better!
  • I stayed the same this week so nothing to set the world on fire here. But, it's a new week and hopefully next week I'll set more results.

I am really itching to get outside and do some gardening - my daffodils and tulips are coming up and that always gets me in the mood. I have some MAJOR changes to do in my flower beds this year so I'm anxious to get started.

I am also waiting for my first grandchild to be born any day now. I don't feel old enough to be a grandma but I guess I am. I'll just keep going with this WW thing and become a "foxy grandma" - hahaha.

Everybody have a good week and let's report some good losses next week. Let's just report period - it's been pretty quiet in here.

    DNR
  • Hi
    Hi ya'll
ss I have been no show, am having a bad 2 weeks, am now up 2 pounds!!!
I refuse to add it to tracker, I have decided to quit ww meetings, I have only lost 3 pounds in 7 weeks and now my leader tells me I am exercising to much, can you believe that. I am feeling better than I have in years, and I truly believe it is the exercise. any ways I will be following a low calorie diet from my doctor who assures me that the exercises will pay off in time so I'm on my own. I hope you will be OK with me still posting here as I will no longer be on ww.
I have started to measure myself on Thursdays and have lost several inches in several places so that is promising. any one else do measuring my doc suggested it as another way to see improvement.
great job geechee, and lillion, glad to see you have kept up the posts and great job on loses.

  • Hello everyone!

Boxerdawg: Don't you go away! You don't have to belong to WW to follow their plan, or to post here! You know, the leader might be on to something there though. If you are working out like crazy and not eating enough your body is still going to think it's starving and shut the metabolism down. You may be not eating enough, even if you eat all the flex and activity points, since AP's are limited, if you are working out like a fiend and still not losing. It does happen. Have you tried both the flex and core plans? I understand that different plans work for different folks. Or....you could just be in a major plateau! You've done so well! We're kinda two of a kind there! Was it all on WW? If so, you KNOW it'll work.

If you decide WW is over and don't feel like posting here anymore, come join us on the 300+ support group. Just cause you aren't 300+ anymore, doesn't mean you aren't welcome - it's where I go when I'm not here!

DNR: I'm itching to do some gardening too! I have a very shady yard...mostly hosta's and ferns in the beds, but I've got two sunny spots I'm going to try veggies in this year...I'm putting big redwood planters on my front stoop and then building a raised bed around an old clothesline pole I've been wanting rid of. I'll put a trellis there for beans and cucumbers. I can't wait to get started! In fact, I'm planting some sugar snap peas in a pot this weekend and see if I can coax enough for a few stir-fries!

Rahkstar: .8 and .6 don't sound like much...but be positive! If you average one pound a week - that's 52 weeks in a year. If you average even 1/2 a pound - that's 26 pounds a year! Would you rather be 226 in a year, or still at 252 or higher? Play with the plan...I find that I do better if I vary the amounts I eat...high points some days and low points the next. I eat all my daily points, and use my flex occasionally, usually on the weekends. You may need to eat more! You can do this!!!

GeeChee: My such flattery! You make me blush! I'm so looking forward to better weather - but we still have the April showers to get through. It was raining this morning and I parked in a meter, but had to move it at 10 a.m. to avoid a ticket. Didn't have time to go to my usual .6 mile spot so I'm in the 1/4 mile lot instead...At least that's a 1/2 mile I'll get today. If it stops raining I'll walk at lunch. There is a building I can walk...but I really don't feel like being indoors if I can help it. Work is bad enough - who wants to walk in circles? Hope your heel heals!

Carop: HI! I post on the WI sometimes, but I think I've found my WW board home here! Welcome aboard! I'm thinking the fire stairs would be a pretty good thing to find! I bet maintenance would know!

Have you ever had a day when you struggle to get in points? Yesterday was just odd! I was at 15 at dinner, but DH was at 22 so he just wanted a salad. So I didn't cook. I had a 3 pt sandwich. Then I had another since I was still 10 pts down. Then I wasn't hungry anymore, so I got dinner for tonight in the crockpot. Then I decided I couldn't leave it at 21 pts...so I had a banana and a cereal bar and I was still at 25. Then I gave up. Doesn't happen often, but is frustrating when you know you have all those points left and don't know what to eat. (Usually I'm trying to stay UNDER 30!)

Well much to do so I'm off. Later!
  • lilion, you are so right. i would much rather be 226 instead of the 252 +. besides, if i burn out now, and go back to the way my eating habits used to be, i'd probably add an additional 50 pounds onto my highest weight.

and you know what? i kind of like the sound of "i am no longer at my highest weight."
  • hey ya'll
Thanks for responding lillion, no most of my weight was lost on my doctors heart diet, I had to loose 50 lbs to see if I needed a heart surgery, first I tried ww and did OK lost 23 lbs. in 2 different tries with them but I did not exercise those times. My doc says that ww was developed for people who do not do a lot of exercise, so that may be my problem. I like this diet better , I eat fruit and juice before noon, only veggies till 4 pm and from 4-7pm I can have a thousand calories so it is much easier for me with the family I cook for.
great job ev1 for staying power,
WE CAN DO THIS YES WE CAN
I am fluctuating between 250 and 245 so am leaving weight tracker where it is lol!!!!

  • Happy Monday to Y'all....

Hope you all had a great weekend! It was a beautiful weekend along the coast....80 degrees and partlly sunny....who could ask for more on a March Sunday. It is 77 degrees right now but storms are on their way with a cool down to the 60's over the next several days. I drug my beach chair out and sat on the beach for a couple of hours yesterday. It was just divine! It won't be long before summer is here for good. I can hardly wait!

Rahstar...no, you should not say "just" .8#. I take what ever loss I can get and move on. It will eventually all catch up with you. Congratuations on making that scale more down.

DNR....I love to garden too! Unfortunately it is hard to grow alot of things because of all the salt water that is in the air. I have to grow what I love out back behind the house...there are just dunes and scrubby stuff out front, and growing flowers is impossible. I try a few pots of tomatoes and they seem to do OK if I keep them watered...sometimes 2 or three times per day. Congratulations on becoming a new Grandma.......that has to be real exciting!

Lilion....your garden plans are very ambitious. I am exhausted just reading about all your plans.! Yes, I do know what you mean about some day struggling to get enough points in. On my very busy and full days, I almost "forget" to eat. Other days, 30 points is just not enough.

Boxerdawg.........No don't you do anywhere! Whether you are doing WW or any other program...you are always welcome here! I think Lilion is on to something about using too few points and excercising so much. I know it is hard to believe that you need to eat enough in order to lose, but it is very true. Let us know how you do with your new plan.

Well, I am off to think about dinner. My heal is heeling...(LOL...I am not sure why I think that is funny. But I do!) I work tomorrow and then am off for the next six days, so I am going to start re-walking then. Am also going to tackle my daughter's closet! Once she gets home for the summer, I know it will be impossible to do!

    Have a great eveing everyone!

    Later..GeeChee
  • I'm An Official Grandma Now
I am officially a grandma now - my new little granddaughter, Jordan, was born Sat. night at 9:00. I'm just thrilled. I'm already inspired to keep on going with this weight loss thing so I can stay healthy and spend many many years with her. She's a very special little thing in my eyes.

That was most of my weekend - the other stuff can wait.

    DNR
  • Congratulations DNR! That is just awesome. I bet you can hardly wait to spoil her rotten! And I bet she is a cute as a button! All babies are in my book!
