It is late in the afternoon now. I have eaten and not done too well.
Breakfast WW yogurt 1pt crispie things from Whole foods 2pts Lunch McDonalds bacon ranch salad with low fat dressing and crispy chx 9pts Snack This is where it gets ugly tall (small) coconut mocha frappuccino light 2/3 of a chunk of low fat banana chocolate chip cake from starbucks DON'T try it!! I regret it so. To make up for this, I plan on having a low point soup for dinner. I will make a taco or santa fe soup and my family can have tostadas with it. I should be able to stay pretty close to points. I am tired. It is Freakin hot out here. |
I do a lot better hunger wise with meat or tofu, whole grains, fruits and veggies to fill me up.
WELCOME BACK PMOSWIFE! |
Thank You ! ! !
I am scared of tofu - what is like Points wise ? and taste wise - how do you prepare it ? |
Me too!! I am scared of it. However, my friend just told me about some noodles and I bought them yesterday. Perhaps I need to try them tonight. I think the whole bag (two servings) was under 1 point. Angie, I will try them soon (maybe tonight) and report to ya. I have some stir fry veggies. I can throw them on top and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion Wendy!

OK - I must say that I really love tofu, but I know other people (like DH) who never really get used to it.
Use soft tofu as a replacement for milk in things like smoothies. Use firm tofu for cooking. Here is my standard. 1tsp olive oil 1 clove garlic squished 1/2 package of tofu (usually 4 oz) 1/2 onion in slivers stir fry until tofu is browned add veggies and cook until done I like to add red bells and snow peas (frozen) or a stir fry veggie mix or mushroom, sun dried tomatoes, and broccoli put a bit of cottage cheese or feta on the top Stir fry in pan until tofu is browned I much prefer the costlier spiced tofu. My sister puts tofu chunks in a ziplock with sesame oil and soy and brings it with lettuce (seperately) for lunch most days. I like the flavored tofu because I just chop it up, put it in a ziplock, and then when I get ready to eat I put it over lettuce or spinach. Tofu is cheaper than meat by a long shot. It is made from soy curds. It lowers your risk of breast cancer if you eat it 2-3 times per week. It is high in protien, lowfat, no cholesterol and no fiber. It is the main source of protien for more than 60% of the world's population. |
You can read the point label on the package because they vary alot in fat content and density. The stuff I buy is a 16 oz package. I eat 8 oz at a time for a 4 point serving. You get about twice as much tofu as chicken breast to compare the same amount of points.

Well, today was another success! One thing I've stopped doing, which I think is helping, I have stopped eating those WW 2pt bars you buy at meetings. I couldn't stop some days, I'd eat one, then by the end of the night realize I had eating 2 or 3, which is 4-6pts!! Can you say empty calories?? So I promised myself 1 week of no 2pt bars, didn't buy any at the meeting and I feel better, I'm not 'snacking' as much. Here's my day:
B: sugar free latte-4pts S: Special K bar -2pts L: chicken/bacon salad w/barbeque sauce- 7pts +1pt for pita :( some teddy grahams w/my son after school - 3pts D: I made this chicken recipe, but I didn't like th way it smelled, for some reason today smells are bothering me (NO, I'm not pg...although after 8 yrs of trying, I wish I was)...and I wasn't really hungry, so I had slim fast/banana shake - 5pts Later: the usual popcorn and oil - 3pts 24 out of 26...but I know on my journal I have 26/26 so I forgot to tell you about something I ate....not sure what, will need to look. *scratches head* But I promise it was healthy!! :) |
The plan............
OOoooo.....I am nervous. I have those tofu noodles I mentioned. Just got back from Safeway where I purchased some shrimp that was on sale. So, I am going to heat the noodles, cook the shrimp in a skillet with some seasoning, and add them both to stir fry frozen veggies. I hope it is ok. My poor kids and husband are at my mercy. We get back from tee ball at about 7pm. This should all cook up quick enough. BUT, if it is not good it will be off for some fast food for the kids and husband. Cross your fingers for me.

I have kind of a stupid question.
What is considered a "serving" of salad? I'm thinking that some of my salads are actually 3 servings of veggies, but I'm not sure. Tyring to be as accurate as possible in my food log, with my 5 fruits/veggies a day. Any help would be appreciated. |
Here's a great link to determining what a serving is. I, too, was confused about a few things and this helped.

Thanks AJsmommy! Just as I thought - I was underestimating my veggies. And I was STILL getting what I thought was 4-5 in a day, so really it was more like 6 or 7! Wow!
And I wasn't counting potatos as a vegetable at all! I guess I was thinking starch and didn't include it as a vegetable. I'm doing better than I thought! |
Ok, it is ten after eight and dinner is done. On the tofu noodles.........name on package was Shiritaki. I was not a fan. It was not repulsive, however I have really bad texture issues. This is why I have never tried any tofu in the past. They reminded me of a slightly over-cooked ramen noodle. The smell was not good, the flavor was bland. I ate lots of veggies then got out some ak mak (sp?) crackers and red pepper hummus. I am going to have a dessert of some sort tonight. I bought the Ww carrot cake snack cakes. YUMMY and only one point. Good luck only eating one. Anyhow, That will be the end of my day. Hope to have a great work out tomorrow and a low point day.

I haven't ever tried a tofu noodle. I think it is good to experiment though, never know when you will find a favorite.
AJ Mommy: I totally agree about the bars. I cannot stay out of the South Beach Diet bars, I end up eating most of a box. If there are two cliff bars at home, I eat two. |
I had a snack last night, ended up with 31 points.
My week so far is: 22, 25, 20, 31 - so I have only used up 2 of my extra points this week. I want to do a really good job of staying on track this weekend. I might not make it under 180 before Memorial Day, but I am going to give it a good shot. It was also nice having a whole avocado last night for dinner, I like having extra points around for stuff like that. We are coming into a 3 day party in our town called "Lost in the 50's". Parade tonight, car show tomorrow, and then we are having a pool party at my parents house for DH birthday on Sunday. There will be lots of places to be bad; the potluck on the parade route tonight, working at the Basketball team's hotdog stand on Saturday, and birthday cake on Sunday. Today: Breakfast: Oatbran cereal with blueberries (4), creamer (2) |
