Unhappy Depressed...looking for some encouragement and friends

Hi My name is Liz.
I have about 100 lbs. to lose and its a losing battle. I can not stick to a diet. I have tried every diet, every pill including doctors and nothing seems to work. I hate feeling this way. I want to join a health club, but I am afraid too. hate to see all thoses skinny women prance around thinking they are better then us. Just looking for for kind and understanding people who have been there. Need some support and encouragement. Feel free to email me if you like.

Howdy Liz,

Welcome to the 100 club! Don't worry about those gym prancers, they aren't worried about you!!

If you are part of WW, then you know that you don't have 100 to lose. You have 10% to go! I had a lot of mental baggage to get over when looking at the total picture. Breaking it down into small pieces is much simpler. Figure by the 5th 10%, I'll make goal!

WW is a great program and these are great folks here. Just find a thread and dive in!

All the best!

Default Hi Liz

I too, had 100 pounds to lose. That was last July. I have lost 52 pounds of it thus far. I finally had my boost using "diet pills". I later added a few other things: lots of water, watched my sweets, and did some exercising. It helped it along a bit. I know you have to keep your chin up and be positive. You can't be depressed and down on yourself all the time and expect much. Those things only make you eat more. Good luck and welcome to the boards.

Welcome Liz!
You have made the first step in getting out of that depressing state that ALL OF US have been in at one time. For me it was the entire summer last year - into the fall. I know how hard it is to get going... you feel like you've tried this so many times before so what makes it different now??? Well, for me it was looking at WW as not just a diet - to fit me into a size 16 in a certain amount of months. That just doesn't work for me. So instead I read a few books, listened to a few audio tapes and suddenly realized there are MANY women out there who have been in our situation - BUT they had the key. They decided to change things about their lifestyle slowly - just one thing at a time. For example, make it a goal to drink your water everyday... after 2 -3 weeks it becomes a habit. Regardless of the points you are eating, you've tackled the water issue. It's slow changes like that which will make the difference.

As far as exercise... I too cannot join a gym because of my self image. Whether or not anyone is looking at me, I won't work my hardest because I feel out of place. So I began walking at night in my neighborhood after dark. I bought a book called "The 90 day fitness walking program" and today happens to be day 89 (no kidding!). I started out being able to only walk 1/4 mile (I literally went from the couch to getting myself out there)... today I walk between 3 and 4 miles a day. I NEVER thought I could do this!!! And you can do it too! Once I felt more comfortable with my self image I switched to walking in the mornings... I still wear VERY BIG shirts to cover my giggling belly - but I've gone down 2 sizes so I know it's diminishing.

Just make consistent small changes and you will look back in 6 months and be so proud. I am going on vacation tomorrow so I will check back with you next week - GOOD LUCK! This is a great program!

Lizzy
Don't despair, I think sometimes everyone gets really down. I would love to start swimming again but I am so ashamed of what I would look like in a cossie that I just daren't and most other forms of exercise are out because I have very bad arthritis. At present I am on Orlistat (Xenical) and have lost 28 lbs since 30 April and I don't have any side effects at all, but I am keeping to a very low fat diet. At present my will power is very strong, I just hope it keeps that way. I hope that I can say to myself just keep at it. I think you have to take one day at a time, a bit like an alchoholic. I wish I knew how to put a permanent motto at the bottom of my messages like some people do. I think mine will be onwards and downwards.

Howdy all,
See Lizzy, things can be better than they seem. You can do this. Personally, I had the best results walking early (really early) in the morning. Even set my clothes up on the floor so I could roll out of bed and get dressed. No excuses that away.

Cherry Coke, if you click on PROFILE at the top of the page, you can add the sigh-off info. And add a picture via the AVATAR choice. That's the extent of my net literacy. P.S. I have noticed that the folks who swim at my pool for exercise tend to be heavier, older people. So, you wouln't be at all out of place.

Kim, I am absolutely amazed that you've dropped two sizes in 90 days. Incredible! I did notice that just using walking as exercise that I wore a size smaller than when I was at the same weight ten years ago. Time for me to start it up again.

Y'all be good!
