Workouts

  • Good afternoon, ladies!

I'm trying to get my bum in gear to get regular workouts started but need to juggle things to do it. Thinking about this got me thinking about all of you.

What sort of workouts do you all do? Walking? Gym? Home equipment? Videos?

I do some walking and will probably start the gym shortly. Just curious to know what you all do and how you keep yourself moving. It's my biggest challenge even beyond eating.

  • My significant other and I joined a gym 2 weeks ago. I'm using the weight machines, treadmills, and rowing machine. We also take a water exercize class together. I'm going to try some of the other classes - like mat pilates. Has anyone done pilates?
  • I'm make a DATE at the gym every Thursday for a class. Just like I do for church and other things.

I go grocery shopping for extra hours ever week(at a super walmart out of town) and wear my pedometer. Last night I was out for 6 hours. A bit long but I get to walk and take time to myself.

At work I'm wearing a pedometer and I try to beat the number of steps from the day before.

When my friend wants to go to my gym (I get a friend in for free), I make arrangements and go. We do the weights, etc.

Sometimes I wear ankle weights around the house.

I bought a situp crunch bar for in front of the TV.

My favorite is the Pilates ball. Sitting on it and bouncing up and down while I watch TV or stretching on it. (I haven't gotten this back out since the move because the kids jump on me. They like the ball too much).

When I'm at the playground at Recess (I teach), I started walking laps around it while watching the kids. Just walking faster down the hall earns a burn. Don't be afraid to do some squats.

I subscribe to Netflix and I'm waiting on some 10 min videos, bellydancing, etc. My husband copies them. I even checked out a nutrition series (11 dvds).

I'm just getting started and I don't accomplish all of these things all the time, but I try. It's a struggle to think "excercise 3+ times a week. So I broke it into something more manageable. Gym mostly only once per week. (My gym is free too..lol).
  • Workout? What's that?

I have the hardest time getting exercise in. That's kinda sad...shows how much I was eating to get this fat if I can lose on WW without really working out. I did belong to the Y and was going 2-3 times a week, doing the treadmill then weight training. I really liked it, but we got new puppies and started hating to leave them all day and then run off again at night so we started staying home...then we decided since obedience school was the same price as the Y we'd just drop the Y for the time being. We'll pick it up later I'm sure.

I try to get some walking in. That's a new thing. I'll be doing walkaerobics on Mon and Wed when I get the house to myself. I'm trying to walk at work on breaks and lunch. Not doing so hot so far, but I'm working on it.
  • Getting Creative
Maybe you need to be fun and creative with it.

Join a class at the college (country western dancing anyone?)..hehe

Take your kids to an aquarium or amusement park

Bowling, bend over and work those abs, drag your friends along

Shop for hours (not necessarily to buy but to get out of the house) with your girlfriends.
  • I 've been walking 4 miles a day when the weather is above 30 degrees and there is no ice or snow on the streets. It gets me out of the house and where I live I can make endless pathways to get back to my house so it is never boring. I try to invite a friend so I dont get bored. (I've got to invest in an I-pod but wont get it until I'm down to 252 lbs ~ sort of a bargain with myself to keep up the daily walking and reach my 25 lb weight loss. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later!
  • I every day (currently 45 minutes, but my goal is to go 1 hour a day) and I do the WATP tapes 3 or 4 days a week. Once I build my stamina back up I'll start doing Pilates and the balance ball again.
  • Who likes to sweat?
Sweating used to be my number one excuse for not exercising. However, at 28 years old I was placed on medicine for high blood pressure so it was time to give in and break a sweat.

I joined a gym and do the treadmill, and do some free weights. I also play ping pong (think Forest Gump....) and believe it or not, break a sweat. On Sundays I make myself get out and do something outdoors; usually walking in a park.

The gym I attend does all kinds of classes like fencing, karate, tai chi, and many more so I will probably join one of those when the weather gets too hot and humid to go outside.

I hope these basic ideas inspire you.
  • I have my own gym at home a treadmill we got used, and an Eliptical and have been using them now for 3 weeks now. The eliptical we got off ebay from a local place so no shipping and handling and looks easier than it is but I love it. I am proud I have worked my way up to 20 minutes on it and then do 10 on the treadmill. Excercise is h-ll but worth it. my goal is 3x per week.
