Facing Halloween
 

We are about to enter October and the big Halloween candy/treat/party fest! :wizard: the stores are full of bags and bags of candies and chips and the women's magazines are flaunting Spooky baked treats on their covers :fr:

What are the challenges you be will facing and how are you planning to deal with them?

One of my tricks (no pun intended) is to buy only candy that I don't like to give away. I can't eat peanut butter cups as they give me migraines so I get these for the trick or treaters and I am not tempted to eat them :)

Does anyone else have any tips on how to stay OP during this time of year?

One thing I try to do is write it down first, before it goes in my mouth. If I don't want to write it down, I don't want it in my body! :lol:

i keep lotsa pudding and cocoa around for myself and i buy pretzels for anyone that might come we dont usually get anyone. also my best trick is to allow myself a candy bar on halloween.

Reduce temptation by not buying the candy in advance, wait until that afternooon. Try not to overbuy, but if it does look like you may end up with leftovers, start being very generous with the last of the kids that show up. Wear Crest Whitestrips while you give out candy, so you won't be tempted to sample it.

Or don't buy candy at all, but buy halloween pencils and sticker packs.

Great advice about buying what you don't like, buying the day of. Plus it's on sale then too.
They sure do get the candy out early huh? It's like a month away and it's already in all the stores. I'm sure people go thru many bags of halloween candy before hallowen....we aren't alone with the problem....lol

Yeah, I know a couple of people who had to go out a couple of days before Halloween to buy replacements for the candy they ate :lol:

Mauvaisroux, I did the same thing you suggested earlier when I bought candy last year - I do not care for Tootsie Rolls, so I bought them to give out. This year I know I will only have the two kids form next door, so I might just buy them each a full-size bar and then turn off my lights (only about a dozen other kids live in my neighborhood, and the houses are pretty far apart, so the next nearest kid si like a quarter of a mile away).

I have no problem giving out candy that I don't like or buying it on the day....
BUT - there is no way I can go by my moms house prior or right after Halloween. Why? Becuz she makes individual bags of like 5 miniture chocolate candy bars, all the best ones....There is no way I could pass up on a left over bag or two......Trick-o-Treaters hit paydirt at her house....

THIS is HOW to handle that situation. I for one, haven't been doing this faithfully, and my old habits are creeping up again. THe only way to effectively handle a situation where there is temptation is to check the nutritional facts, and track track track!

hehe....I also buy candy that I don't like AND just in case.....don't open the bag until the first doorbell rings!! My problem is when my boys return with their candy..... This year since losing weight BEFORE Halloween, I am re-committed not to help myself to their stash. STAY STRONG GIRLS!!!!

I'm luvky I live in an apartment building. There arn't any kids that come to my door so I'm not buying any candy!

Apartment living is great - that's where me and DH downsized to and NO Trick-r-Treaters there either......BUT I am going to my DS's house becuz him and all his friends (in their 20's/30's) have little cute trick-r-treaters and they have a party.....
Kinda thing us grandma's love...lol

Last year, I kid you not, we had over 240 trick-or-treaters at our door. There are only about 50 kids in our neighborhood, but we are one of the first neighborhoods on the outskirts of town, so I think a lot of them come in from the country. Well, no way am I buying fancy candy for that many kids, so I buy cheapy candy that I would not want to eat anyway. O.K, I know I sound like the Grinch that stole Halloween, but at least buying the cheapo stuff helps keep my hands out of the bag! :lol:

Allie - Sounds very lodgic to me........I could never give out chocolate....my will power ain't all that....Sometimes we just have to out-smart ourselves....

I bought candy to give out but I gave it to my husband to keep until the night of trick or treat
