Unhappy Personal Pizza?!

Suckered again. I found the nutrition information for my favorite pizza joint online, and figured out that a personal pizza was only 4 points (sausage and mushroom) and boy was I thrilled!! So I went there for lunch today with my two girlfriends and was so pleased with myself and the sensible lunch I had, until I got to thinking about the WW and LC pizzas- why are they 6 or 7 points? So I went back to the nutrition information and noticed that a serving size of a personal pizza is 1/4 of the whole thing. NO!! So instead of being a 4 point lunch, it was a 16 point lunch!! Oh, my, do I ever feel like an idiot! I should have realized it right away, too good to be true and all of that, but I ask you: Wouldn't you think a "personal pizza" is meant for just one person, to eat in one serving? So, I had a big plate of broccoli and a little piece of chicken for dinner. Sniff.

The thing is, I feel like we dieters get scammed all the time- low fat, reduced calorie, "lite" foods- they seem to be more expensive, aren't they? Like, regular sliced cheese vs fat free sliced cheese- you get twice as much of the full fat for half the price! It seems like everywhere I turn, somebody is making a buck off of a person who is trying to lose weight...

So, Sorry to vent. I guess I'm a little cranky. It WAS good broccoli, though, and I splurged with a piece of FF cheese!

OMG I hate that!!!

Yah you'd THINK a personal pizza is meant for one - crazy!

You definately have to read the fine print on labels.

Vent away.......Mara

That really was a sucker punch!
The other thing I've noticed that sometimes the labels change on foods. I remember awhile ago these frozen banana popsical things covered in chocolate calculated out to 2 points.......ate them every day......something made me check it again a few months later.....it was 6! I was so pissed, never bought that brand of anything again!!! What a lie!!

I HATE that! Things like single bottles of juice... which everyone assumes are one serving... will calculate the nutrition on the label for 2.5 servings or some such nonsense. Grrr....

1/4 of a Personal pizza? Yikes. That would be one teeny tiny slice-- even my two year-old daughter would need more than that at a meal. It seems like they are intentionally trying to mislead customers, doesn't it?

I admire your restraint in balancing out dinner, though. I probably would have chalked the whole day up as a loss and eaten whatever I wanted that night. You did a great job thinking it through and eating a low-points supper.

We really do have to be careful, don't we? I was on Weight Watchers for the first time a few years ago. Another member and I were discussing pizza, and she marveled that she was able to eat 1/2 a pizza for 5 points or so. She was very dismayed when I checked the books and pointed out that it was not 1/2 a pizza she could have, but 1/12 of a pizza!!
My biggest mistake this time around is not checking my activity points more accurately. The more weight you lose, the longer you have to exercise to earn a point.

Why oh why does pizza always have to be soooo high in points? Is it the cheese? I made a frozen pizza yesterday and just -had- to have three slices. Turned out to be 23.2 points! Assumed that frozen pizza would be better than delivered for some reason. Managed to stick to water and black coffee the rest of the day and did not go over my points (which is rare for a Saturday), but it is sad that pizza is sooooo high up there. (And sooooo good!)

Oh, you guys are so awesome! Not one of you said "how could you think a personal pizza could be only 4 points?!" I must say, though, I really like pizza and it's always fun to have a little pizza party in the living room with my son, watching Spongebob or Scooby Doo... I did find out that Pizza Hut has a lite line (I forget what it is called) and the slices are only 3 points a piece- so for those of you pizza lovers like me, this looks like the way to go for an OCCASSIONAL treat!

I try to get pizza packed with veggies. I am not a veggie fan, so it is a good turn-off, and then when I can not resist, at least I get some veggies.

Actually pizza can be one of the best items if you can keep it to 1 or 2 slices with extra veggies and 1/2 cheese. Even the crust while usually made with white flour can keep a person satisified.

I eat pizza about once every 2 weeks and sometimes it is take out, sometimes it is frozen, sometimes it is delitake home and bake and sometimes it is totally homemade.

The key is planning and following your plan.
