anyone else doing WW on their own?
Meaning you don't go to meetings or not signed up online?
I have all the WW info, collected from the internet and from friends, and currently have a friend who is on WW online, and helps me figure out points and stuff, but I've never actually joined WW. I've made a notebook that has a list I printed out with the point info for lots of foods, and I have a point calculator (though at the moment I cant find it!). Just wondering if anyone else is doing it this way, without ever actually joining WW... and if its 'frowned upon' here :o and if its ok if I post on the WW forums here :) ~Liz |
I am doing this without the help of meetings or WW online. I have the information from my mother and I am taking it from there. I am sure the meetings are a great support thought but I am not a part of them.
Good luck with WW! I am on day three and feeling pretty good. I wish you tons of luck! I am sure you will do great :) |
Dear Liz,
Over the year's I've been able to do WW on my own....with success....reading and coming to the boards, chats and constant reading....I was always able to manage. Weight has always gone up and down...when health wasn't good, but once again, I sort the help of the chats and boards to get me through. Have patience, and seek help here and you shall find and succeed...DON'T GIVE UP!!! GOOD LUCK. |
Hi everyone! Been away from this site for awhile but I'm back and starting over with WW once again! I am doing this on my own. The meetings are costly and I've done it on my own before. As long as I make sure I journal and drink my water (which is most difficult for me), I do fine. I am starting out at 159 and hope to get down to 125-130 (tops). One thing I'm doing to make this "fun" is that I'm putting $10.00 in an envelope every Saturday (weigh-in day)...as if I were actually going to a meeting. For each 5# loss, I will spend the amount I have "saved"..as my reward (new clothes) etc. I plan to check in each Saturday with my losses...by the way, where does everyone get the cute graphics? I would love to apply one to my messages. Thanks for listening..happy dieting!

Hi Nona,
Welcome back, I too just started back on track..needed it..and being here does help, keeps me focused. What a terrific idea of saving the money that way for a reward...smart move. You mentioned the graphics for weight loss...just click on mine think that will take you there, and you can create your own...not difficult to do...give it a try. Again, welcome back...and here's to helping one another! |
Thanks you all for replying to my post! :) I thought I was the only person who did it (WW) this way, so I'm glad I'm not alone :)
I think thats a great idea, Nona, to do with your money :) I'm doing pretty good this week. Last night was harder than the other days. It seems to be easier when I'm at work, I'm not tempted to snack all day, because I cant :) and can only eat what I bring with me. We went grocery shopping last night, and I bought better food, so hopefully the rest of the weekend will be better. ~Liz |
Hi Everyone:
I am also doing WW on my own. I have been to meetings and just have not found a leader that I liked as much as my old one. I am also saving for a disney trip. I love the idea of "paying" for meetings. I am going to have to start that one. Hope you all don't mind me joining in here! |
I am doing WW on my own,but i do the program from 1996-97.It is the selections plan.I have joined WW so many times its hard to count.I have all the points stuff and the core stuff, but i like the balance of all food groups and my fruit is free,i never could get use to using points for fruit.

Going it alone, but not alone
I do WW at home. I ordered the stuff online, but when they come out with a new calculator, or I lose/break mine, I just go to a meeting before it starts and buy one.
I will go to meetings once in awhile, to see about a new program, or something like that, but over all,I do it alone, at home. I lost 75 lbs and some has creeped back, so I'm back on it. It's the whole thing of knowing what to do and doing it. I'm sure meetings can be helpful, but I really like the idea of paying myself rather than someone else. It's great to know that other people do it on thier own, as well. |
Today turned out to be an interesting day. I worked for 4 hours this morning. Which I so love doing on a Saturday! I really ate well. Although not enough fruits in. I need to get to the store for some more. DS and I went through grapes, nectaries this week big time. I also have been getting in more water. Not the amount I should but better than I have been. If you have not tried true lemon (www.truelemon.com) you should. It comes in little packets. I add it to my water once in awhile. I keep a naglene bottle on my desk and one at home. I fill that up with water and drink out of that.
I know I lost weight and will weigh myself tomorrow. |
I lost my weight w/o meetings, too. I got my support here at 3FC!
Savin' for Disney - love your avatar. :D If you need an addy for disney tips, just pm me. As you can tell, I love Disney, too. |
This morning I weighed in and I am down 7 pounds! And I have not even started my water class yet either. I was pretty happy to see that.
Having some grapes for breakfast. Not sure what I want so I thought I would start with those. Hope everyone is having a good day! This evening I will go for my 10 min. walk. Starting slow to build up. Yesterday I did do 15 min though. |
I was too shy and too broke to do either meetings or online, so I bought a starter kit for the old plan a couple years ago on ebay. It's been great, but I plateaued for a long time until I found 3FC.
From time to time I feel guilty for not actually joining, but I'm just not financially or emotionally able to do so. I don't feel as bad since it's the old plan, though. I generally don't post on the WW forums, but only because I can't find anyone else on Winning Points still. |
Betani: You found someone! I am doing Winning Points. I like the point system an know it well. That is how I lost 50 pounds at one time.
I have been to meetings and I have the new Flex and Core info. But I just do not seem to be able to do Flex. I have not tried Core. Maybe one day. But the problem is that if you give me 35 "free" points at the begining of the week, then I eat them and use them for junk. When I do winning points and I have to "earn" my banked points. Then I do much better. So I finally figured this out and got my winning points stuff out and that is the plan I followed last week. Even though I was doing Winning points I did the following: Had Chilpotle for lunch (man I love that place) Had Subway for dinner Had Cousins for dinner Had one beer. Now for some reason I "know" I can do that on Flex but I seem to get so caught up in the whole " WOW I have 35 extra points" Maybe I will be able to move into Flex but for now I am going to just do what I know works for me. Sorry for the big ramble! |
I'm also doing the Winning Points program too :)
Today, other than the chocolate chip cookies I made and ate :o , I did ok. Next week, I'm going to start exercising, so hopefully that will motivate me to do better. ~Liz |
new to site and ww
HI I certainly have been wanting to try ww but just dont have the info. I have looked online at ww but havent joined. I havent joined or gone to the meetings either. Want to lose 20 lbs. Not quite sure how to do so. Every monday i start by saying "ok, only eating healthy today and by noon it has just gone by the wayside. I really need to get a hold of myself. Lost 12 lbs on sb a year ago and gained it all back plus. Not only that, but it is all in my stomach and waist area!!! Making me feel really bloated, wonder is this is unusual? Anyway, I sure would appreciate some help. This is my 3rd time on this so do not know how to get around. Most specifially, dont know how to post my own message. Hope to hear from a few of you ou there. I am 64 years old, work part time and have no childred at home. Both are grown and gone. :?:

hootie:
If you go to one meeting you will get all the info you need to do the program. I would suggest buying the food companion cause it has lots of food info. The rest you can find on the web or ask here at 3 FC. When you want to post your own message. Just hit start a new thread. Then you will have it. |
I'm Also Doing WW by Myself
I'm doing WW on my own as well. With the cost of gas right now, I can't justify driving 45 minutes--one way-- and then paying for a meeting on top of that. We have 7 kids although only 4 of them are at home, but we are supporting 6 of them and the total cost each week to go to the meetings is too high. I figured it was better to do it on my own than not do it at all. I did get my materials off of eBay and my MIL is also doing WW (but in another state). I joined 3FC for the support and this seems like an awesome site. Today is only my second day and I'm struggling a bit with hunger pangs (but am I really hungry or is it just in my head??). I walked 40 minutes today with my baby and plan to exercise as well as watch points. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only not going to the meetings.
Kiki :p |
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one on Winning Points! It is a great program. I find that it's just flexible enough while being structured enough that even my ADD brain can handle it alone. (Though it's SO much easier with the support I get here!)
If I can pry my husband away from the TV, I'm going to work out to a video and earn a couple points for a small treat before bed ;) |
hey all mind if a newbie joins the chat :) i am 23 from maryland i just started WW ( on my own) last monday and lost about 2 pounds ( although went to graduation parties over the weekend so we will see) lol
i was down to 156 in november and have gained it all back i was on wieght watchers.. i just love bread and potatos lol this morning i had a bagel with cream cheese :o for lunch i am going to try to stick to just my lean cuisine sante fe rice and beans also want to go to the gym around 11:30 (oops that now gotta run be back when im done excerciseing) |
I am another that is doing Winning Points cause I already had the system and it worked really good for me, but think about all the new Flex that is Winning Points minus your 35 extra Flex point which Winning Points is 27 for my weight and 27 x 7 =189 Flex Points 22 x 7 + 35 =189. I also think the Wendies is great also cause when you chg up your daily points really at the end of the week 189 is my max and 175 min. But I also enjoy doing it ON MY OWN.
Good Luck Stacey |
Hello,
I too am doing WW at home. I am doing the Wendie Plan. I so far have lost 20 lbs. I find it amazing that when I am not expencting a loss because I made bad choices, I get a good loss. Well have a great day! Wendy |
Hi thanks for answering me. I dont know anything much abot ww. What is the the difference between trhe core and the flex program? Also if you could provide me with some info to get started that would be great. I am so new at this site i am having a hard time getting around. How do I find threads and how do i subscribe to them. I would appreciate any info i can get. Good luck to all of you and look forward to hearing from all who care to write me. Sharon

I went to one meeting just to get the start up stuff and companion books. I have one friend thats on WW and she helps me with stuff too. I have been doing weight watchers for about 6 months and got down to 115 lbs, so I know it works on your own. I'm glad you made this thread...I didn't know so many were doing it on their own! :)
|
I've been doing WW on my own since August. My best friend bought me the companion books/calculator for Christmas, but other then that I've been using all the resources I've found on the internet...and have had a ton of help from my friend.
I also workout to the firm 5 days a week, and walk at least 30 minutes on the weekends. |
I am doing weight watchers on my own. I joined last february, but gave up easily. as a student on a very strict budget, I just don't have the funds to pay for meetings AND buy healthy food! heh. So I'm trying to do it on my own, with my own weigh-in every friday morning.
I was wondering - do you have to be a member to buy the books (such as the eating out guide) or the calculators? Or can I just walk in to one of the WW offices and buy it, w/o being a member? |
I am doing it on my own. I have all the materials...though I currently can't find the Food companion. It has been 5 weeks and I have lost 7 pounds. I used to visit this site a long time ago, but now I will check it more often I always found a lot of great recipes on here.

I am...I did it a few years ago and it worked. I only ran into problems when I quit. But now I'm trying it again, just financially and time wise I don't think I can sign up so here I am.

I am doing it on my own too, I just don't have the time to go to a meeting in the summer, my husband runs in demolition derbys, and I have to be there for them. My friend and I weigh in at my house on friday mornings, so I am still accountable to some one , and if i lose, my husband gives me the 10.95 meeting fee to put in a jar for new clothes. So that is a motivator too!!
|
I'm at home, too
I just started WW again this past week and am doing it on my own. I used do be online, then I went to meetings. I did lose a little weight but gained it back because I stopped. I decided that even though I had the information at home I still needed some sort of support system and plan on getting it from a few different boards I visit.
Also, I'm another one who is using the Winning Points rather than the Flex system! I liked the idea of daily banking and point range better than one target and a bunch of free points for the week. It just works better for me. As for why I'm doing it at home, same reasons as most everyone else: less expensive and more convenient. |
Greetings,
With so much wonderful information here on the sites, purchasing any books aren't really even necessary...try and make a habit of checking various things each day to help you get through...print out the low point items to for eating during the day as well. Also, so many terrific people are on this site alone, you can talk to almost anyone and they are willing to help in any way they can. Going into the chats can make a difference too....also emailing a 'pal' what your eating each day so that you're accountable to one another .. 'sort of' ...helps keep you on track as well...so that if you have questions about what you're doing right and wrong, they can guide you through it. All of us here are here to help one another and get through the everlasting time of losing weight and keeping it off...so we all always welcome questions and emails to help one another. |
starting again
i am doing ww again, this time on my own. i am not going to the meetings. i am frustrated b/c i started doing atkins lost about 5# and then gained it back. ww is the only thing that works for me. i need to commit to sticking w/it. ;)
|
hey queen you can do it....once you have the mind set...it's never easy but once you're on a roll you can make it!!!

I think that is such a great idea!!!! I really like that! If you don't mind me "stealing" your idea, I'd like to try it out! That's a GREAT motivator too! :) |
Great Idea!

I am re-starting my WW points today. (I didn't usually use my flex points when I attended meetings last year.) I will use them if I need to though. I still have all my books, slide calculator, etc, and will start journaling today. My days and nights are mixed up again, so this is my morning, lol.
I am glad to see others doing WW on their own, as I can't afford the meetings right now either. I am so glad I found this site, I can have the support from home instead of driving for it, :). I need to go get my books, and plan my meals! ;) |
I'm so glad this thread was started... I'd been planning to start the South Beach diet, but putting it off because it really doesn't fit with my lifestyle. I always thought WW wasn't an option because I can't afford to go to meetings. Then I saw this thread and starting looking around... and now I think the points system (flex? core? not sure yet) is much better suited to me.

In the meantime I've just been watching my portions, exercising more, etc... but I think I'm ready to get started on WW as soon as I've read the rest of my stuff. |
HI! everyone, I just made the decision to do WW, on my own, this time. I have all the books and calculator and everything, I need. Since I was forced to retire from my job because of a buyout, just too expensive for me to go to meetings. Besides, I've already paid for one of the Weight Watcher centers, by now, I'm sure. LOL. Looking forward to sharing. I will start after the 4th of July, as Dh has all kinds of meals already planned and I would only be sabotaging myself. Have a good night all. Lucyee

anyone else doing WW on their own?
Greetings newcomers to WW :)
I seem to always stick with the WW 123 plan...it's the one I learned and fine the easiest for me to follow...I eat plenty of veggies and fruits to fill me and try to spread out snacks to keep me full....and always popcorn. So good luck to all...it really does work, just takes time and patience. |
