Default Stupid Meeting Topics

I just have to say that sometimes I feel sorry for the leaders who are following the WW topics for discussion at meetings. Last night, the topic was something about how winning at poker was like losing weight...and only 2 people at the meeting actually even played poker. Our leader looked a little embarassed to even be presenting the topic. Topics really need to be geared to reach a larger group of people, and WW doesn't always do a good job of that. Last night's meeting was saved by a good discussion about all kinds of good ideas for getting in extra servings of fruit and vegetables.

We had the same topic and it was actually fantastic. Our leader used the story boarding thing to bring in the cards, using 5 boxes for 5 things you are going to do to get your winning outcome. We had a very informative and active meeting. I guess it is all in the presentation and how the leader "gets it!" We all got the sheets for the storyboarding and were asked to pick something that we wanted, a goal, etc and then in the boxes, put all the things it would take to get us there.....it was great!

We had the same topic. The poker thing was something I couldn't really relate to at first but when the leader talked about how a winning hand worked and that you could win despite the cards you are dealt by making decisions and using strategy it made sense.

We got some great ideas on storyboarding and planning how you will get to your goal.

Same topic too....usually my leader rocks with whatever topic she has to deal with, but she just sort of skimmed over it and we ended up mostly talking about how we dealt with the holiday weekend and that sort of thing. We had a lot of people at the meeting and only one or two people had a clue about poker. They need to use games like Candy Land...or maybe Chutes and Ladders!

Same topic here too, and she applied it to not giving up when you don't make the best choices. Didn't overly care for it...but I stayed anyways.

We had that topic on Wed nite and it was not good!!! Mind you of all the times (too many to count) I have gone to WW this is probably the worst leader I have ever had.
I go more for the interaction and support from the other members.

Our discussion ended up revolving around the pts in "cooler" such as Bacardi Breezers, Schmirnoff Ice etc. Anybody got any ideas. We all came to the conclusion that we would probably be better to just improvise our own concoctions such as gin and fresca, or wine spritzers but sometimes it would be nice just to just order a cooler etc

So any pt answers would be greatly appreciated. I truly get more out of these boards and our WW site boards in Canada than my weekly meetings right now. I just find that I have to weigh in with an objective person and besides my scale is beserk. You can step on it twice in a 10 minute time frame and get a different answer both times.

my meeeting was cancelled for this week because of the holiday. I wonder how my leader would have handled it. she is really into props and gimicks. Plus she pushes the products SO much. do they get commission for selling those things. Anyway, I wonder what next week will hold.

I remember when I joined ww about 2 years ago, my sister and I went in and met the leader; he was nice and all, but I felt like I couldn't relate to him at all. He was akward the whole time. So I stopped going to meetings, but then never lost any more weight....
So I think that the meetings and leaders play a huge role, but I personally benefit more from the members and other people there more than whatever we learn in a meeting.

Our leader said that next week we were going to "taste test" the smoothies ...should be interesting...I have never had any of them, but have thought about making my own to get my dairy I need in.

Usually my leader is really good. She tells us about the WW products, but doesn't push too hard unless she herself thinks it is a good thing. So this topic was a bit of a fluke for her, I guess. It probably didn't help that a lot of people at my meeting belong to religious groups that don't approve of gambling games, so poker wasn't the best topic. The other good thing we did last night was put a goal in an envelope that she sealed, and she will open it again on the week of labour day to see if we met our summer goal.

Allie - I like the idea of the goal in the envelope - I may just do that too!

We also did the "poker" thing - but had a "replacement" leader which was a change from our usual leader - who is excellent by the way! She mentioned being dealt a good hand vs bad hand (and we had an opportunity to "change" the bad hands of course). The storyboarding part of it was not focused on - we did not do the storyboarding (which I KNOW we would have done w/our leader).

We did go over the 8 healthy eating rules - and at the scale we each got a playing card to keep - turns out we are to use it as a "bookmark" to mark those pages in our week 1 book so we don't forget them and refer back to them easily!

I also like the goal in an envelope idea!

Ok maybe the analogy was a bit off but I can see why the 'powers that be' at HQ would pick it since Poker is a very hot game right now...be it with real money (and btw what does being religious have to do with not approving of gambling -- sorry don't understand that as many religous people enjoy gambling just not gambling addictions) or play money so it probably was geared at a larger group of people. I see the alalogy of good hands (what we would fix ourselves) and bad hands (making a wiser choice when all of a sudden your hit with something like a dinner at a friends or unplanned restaurant event by changing the way something is cooked or portion control, etc to make it a better hand).

My leader is good and does skit/prop thing and makes everything interesting but I rarely stay for meetings as I hit the gym right after I weigh in.

MRSKMS, Did they ever tell you how many points those alcopops are? They are all 5 points each but the low carb ones are only 2 points. Just so ya'll know. I posted the cal/fat/fiber for most of them in a thread one day (do a search either in general or food for alcopops).

No one at my meetings push their products (mostly because they really are nothing more than processed foods and they dont' stick with you as much as real food).

As for smoothies I know that a while back (long while) I posted a bunch of recipes for smoothies so they should still be in the recipe section.

I think a lot of it is how the leader interprets things. This week we had a pretty slow meeting, she was going over the book mark for tools for living and there just wasn't much discussion or involvement so the meeting ended up not even being 30 minutes.

Kelly, a lot of different religions don't allow gambeling, it isn't a very moral activity to some, while others us it as a way to raise money, go figure. its kind of like alchohol, some religions or demoninations ok it, some think its evil. My mama's family would have been very offened to have to relate to Poker and might have even left the room, while my daddy's would have been very excited.

jennie934, Thanks I did not realize that. I mean all the religions and religious people I deal with or know don't see a problem with it....nor alcohol. LOL!
