Thumbs down

Thought I'd move us to a new thread since we were on page 2....
let's see if I can cut and paste the last few posts from today here. This way we don't have to go back and forth.

Mountain Irises
Kathi, maybe you picked up some good vibes from her and were able to push yourself a little more . You never know. Good for you getting your walking in.

Annie, sorry things are still so rough for you, I'll keep you in my thoughts and send drowsy vibes your way.

My team won tonight and advance to the next series, so I am happy, though tired. Thank goodness they play St. Louis next, maybe the games will be at reasonable times!

I went for a hike this morning and got to see some mountain irises - the first of the batch. It made me glad that I'm getting in shape. A few months ago I wouldn't have been able to do this hike.

Annie - I'm so sorry that you're still having a hard time. And no, I don't think that you were whining at all. Is there any way you could get a used CPAP machine (perhaps it would be cheaper)? Have you called any medical supply companies which may be able to rent you the equipment? I have a family member who is oxygen dependent and we rent the equipment monthly. Also, I know that there are programs, for instance, from drug companies for people who need, but can not afford, certain medicines. Your doctor would have to help enroll you. Perhaps this is also possible for the CPAP machine. Too often doctors fail/forget to mention the resources which are available. (No slam on doctors intended. My dad is a doctor. But you have to ask if these things are possible). I hope that help will soon be on the way for you!

I'm doing ok. Have slacked off on the exercise somewhat (only 3 days last week), but I'm going to start again. I found out that the exercise enables me to get a better night's sleep. Have you found that exercise affects your sleep any?

Keep your head up!

WWQueen: I am more of a football fan, but do keep track of the Wings (only the Wings, ha, ha). It's football first, then hockey. I don't waste my time with basketball, golf, or bowling. I'm so impressed with your hiking. You're going to be a real hard-body. Is Everest in your future?

n 2 a swan: No payment plan or rental was offered for the machine. It was suggested that I look on Ebay for one and I didn't see anything. I'll have to do more scrounging around to see what I can come up with. When I was walking at least 4 miles a day (11 years ago), I always felt good and slept good. I don't know when the sleep apnea came into play. Most likely when I put on so much weight. So get out and start walking, right? I know, I know. I don't want this to sound like an excuse (or maybe it IS anyway), but I have tell myself that I 'have to' do the basics (wash dishes, do laundry, etc.). I have real trouble keeping up with filing papers. My home isn't in total disarray, but I always feel behind and struggling to keep up. I feel like such a big, fat whatever but I almost don't care. It bothers me but it doesn't. Does that make sense? It all starts with one small step, right? I'll work on it again.

Lovin' the warm weather and the flowers in peoples' yards. Oh, and the magnolia trees are wonderful. Too bad the blossoms don't last longer.

Cleaned a couple windows last night after work. Sounds like 10 minutes work, but I was struggling to get the storms off, so I didn't get as much done as I wanted. Trying to get a little done each night before graduation. DD, DS, and DH don't know it yet, but they are going to volunteer this weekend to help!

Long thread?
Annie - I read posts from people who say they have 100# to lose but they're walking (and hiking) 3-7miles at a time and I think, "Whew, how do they do it?" I'm lucky to walk 1 1/2 miles before my leg or hips or back start to hurt. I feel really discouraged about that but then I think, "Hey, you old broad. Don't give up; just keep doing the best you can." I need to focus on positive thoughts and find success in smaller goals. You seem to be keeping faith with what works and slowly I'm sure you will turn a corner and the way will look brighter.

WW Queen - You're a positive motivator. Wild irises are so neat. Did you see any orchids, yet? The ones I've seen at Rocky Mtn Nat Park are really tiny and I wouldn't have noticed them if someone else hadn't pointed them out. Good for the Avs. But aren't the Stanley Cup playoffs the longest in all sports?! When DH watched pro basketball, I used to think those playoffs lasted forever then I realized hockey is longer! We were in Montreal when Patrick Roy quit the Canadiens (?) and EVERYONE was aghast at it. Denver's good fortune.

Kim in NJ - WHERE ARE YOU? I hope you're on vacation or are you posting elsewhere? I should look at that site you mentioned last time you dropped in here. Hope all is good with you.

Kathi - I went to college in St Paul and always loved the Twin Cities. It was the only place I've lived, however, where the humidity could be 100% and no rain in sight!! Hi to you.

Also hi to n 2 Swan and Angie - I hope I have that right. I don't seem to be able to view the thread from here. Take care, y'all. I'm going to do my journaling.

OK -
It looks like everyone is doing real well.... YEAH for US!
I am having a very good week (I seem to do better when I steer clear of the PC because I get outside then). I weigh in on Saturday mornings and I am hoping to get my 10lb ribbon. It seems like these 10 lbs were very hard... but I keep forgetting that I took off about 15 lbs in the 4 weeks before I joined WW after my surgery. So that's very exciting for me.

Jody: Would you believe I walked 2.85 miles last Saturday.... and 2.57 tonight???? Yipee! 2 months ago I couldn't even walk for 20 min - tonight it was 42 min. I think your body very quickly gets used to cardio types of exercise and you begin to build up endurance. BUT - I searched long and hard for a shoe to walk in because my feet would always burn after 1/2 mile - or my muscles would be killing me. I found ASICS at a friend's recommendation. They are WONDERFUL!!! I could have walked another mile tonight - but it was dark. I have the GTI 2050 and they are so comfy!

WWQ - Sad to say but I know so little about sports. I don't even know what the Avalanche are... but Stanley Cup is Hockey right? - Don't hit me!!! Good for you with your hikes. I can't even walk in Denver without being winded on a flat street. So pathetic!

n2swan - Yes, exercise is giving me better sleep - and less stress. But I've also noticed a bigger appetite. I am usually at 30 pts per day whereas before this it was easy to stay at 26.

Kathi - Good for you walking with your friend. My daughter is also in preschool. I walk with her when I get home at night. I put her in the jogger and we walk at 7:30PM after work. I have all sorts of reflectors on her carriage and her helmet too! She sings and chats with me the whole way so I love it. And because it's late - no one in my neighborhood sees my big rear waddling down the street

Angie - Welcome! Great job with your weight loss. I LOVE the name Hannah.... but my last name is "Isaga" pronounced "Eye Saga" and we thought Hannah Isaga was too sing songy..... But it is definitely one of my favorites - and what a wonderful Biblical character she was.

Catch up with you all later...

Default feeling the pain...

Well, I learned a very valuable lesson tonight.

Walking and bike riding are two very DIFFERENT exercises! Tonight was actually the first time I have been on my bike in about two years. I didn't ride it at all last summer. I decided to go on a bike ride tonight instead of a walk, just to do something different. My 10 yr old daughter went with me. I did the same route that I had walked yesterday with my WW pal. I thought that it would be easy. I had to get off my bike and walk it up a hill at one point! When I got home, I was panting so hard that Ihad a throbbing headache. I couldn't even talk for a few minutes. It was terrible! Why was it so hard? I used to ride the recumbnant bike all the time at the YMCA. BUt, I guess when you add in hills and wind and all that good stuff, it makes a difference. Lesson learned? Start off small. Next time I will just go around the block!

I have weigh-in tomorrow and am hoping for good things! I was pretty confident until I ate some cookies today. I still stayed within points, but I usually like to have a "light" day right before weigh-in. I will let you all know how it went.

Kim: I never got one of those joggers for my little one. She is almost 5 and has not been in a stroller for a couple of years, so I don't think I would have much luck with it. I did figure out that I can take her to the park behind our house and do laps while she is playing. 20 laps equals a mile.

Cynthia: I envy you and those mountain irises. I am such a flower person. My poor garden was completely neglected last summer, and now I really have my work cut out for me to get it in shape again. Also congrat on the Avalanche. Now that we have hockey back, this state is nuts for the Wild. I am more of a Vikings fan myself, but I may have to dust off my old Twins stuff now that they are doing so well!

Jody: What college did you go to? I know what you mean about the humidity. They say that this year we are going to have twice as many tornadoes as usual. We actually had a close call last night. A couple of tornadoes were heading staight for us, but they turned south a little and hit a town close to us. I am terrified of tornadoes!!

Annie: I hope you get the sleep solution that you need. What exactly is sleep apnea? I seem to have trouble sleeping sometimes. I have a hard time getting into REM. I always blame it on caffeine, but maybe it is something else.

I know that I haven't touched on everyone, but I am tired and am having trouble typing, so it is off to bed with me!

Hey Kathi - I'm off to bed too! But real quick - you and I seem to be doing the same thing. Read my bicycle post from last week - I was so out of breath I thought I was going to pass out!!!! So funny!

And - my daughter is going to be 5 in June - just got the jogger last year but it holds her up to 100lbs - she's only 32 lbs. She LOVES it ... BECAUSE I bought the purple one to entice her to ride in it. Plus she enjoys a juice box and waves to everyone.

Keep up the great exercise effort... talk with you soon.
