Diabetes and WW?

  • Hello, I know there is a thread on this site for health problems and I go there quite a bit but I was wondering can a person with type2 diabetes do WW and still lose? I have been just diagnosed and have always believed in this way of eating, I did lose doing the low carb type of eating but had a very hard time because I do not eat red meat. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
  • W/W can be used with any 'specs' you need. W/W allows you to eat what you want, need and/or like and still lose by providing the tools for weight loss. Many of my friends have had diabetes and got it under control with diet (W/W) and exercise.
  • Ask your doctor for her opinion of WW....
Both my sister and an aunt have type 2 diabetes, and they have done well with WW in the past few months. They have their sugar under control and my sister has been able to d/c her meds, now that she is eating healthily and has lost weight.

This is very do-able for you, too! Good luck!
  • Show your doctor WW core plan - it'll probably get the rave reviews my doctor gave it. I'm insulin resistant which could change to diabetes if I don't wath out. I've lost 16 pounds in 9 weeks.
  • Hi Meadowlark -
There are a bunch of us over in the PCOS / Insulin Resistance board that could probably help you out. Those of us with insulin resistance are probably trying to follow a diet that would be similar enough for someone with diabetes.

I'm on WW online, and have insulin resistance. My biggest thing is trying to avoid the "bad" carbs and focus on balancing out the various food groups (veggies, fruit, grains, etc.).

    Hope that helps!!
    Cass
