Default Online or Meetings

Hello All,

I am new at all of this, but I am thinking of joining Weight Watchers. I am just curious what you perfer, actually going to the meetings or doing it online? Also, what do you think are the advantages/disadvanteges of either? Just looking for a little input to help in my decision.

Thanks

It will be an indivdual thing. Personally unless I am going to meetings to weigh I tend to slack off and gain-lose-gain-lose the same few pounds over and over. But I like the online part because I am a compute geek.

So if you can be 'strict' with online you may not need however the only way to get lifetime with W/W is to attend meetings.

Meetings are vital for me. I tend to slack off when I am my own accountability. However, I cannot afford the meetings. I am combining the points system with the First Place group at my church. I have lost almost 32# (more when I weigh tonight) since June. It is required that you attend meetings, but it is necessary for me.

I'm kind of apprehensive about joing Weight Watchers. Like I'm admiting I have a problem. I do admit that I'd like to fit into trendier clothes, but its not like I'm an alcoholic. Did anyone else feel this way? Like giving it a voice made it real and irreversible? Which I understand is counter intuitive because thats why you go to the meetings. In any case, how much did it cost for you to start up?

Pseudobrilliance, No you should feel that way. Asking for help no matter if it drugs or alcohol or food is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength.

Most places right now are running specials...some regions are free registration and some are half price. If you check www.weightwatchers.com you can check specials in your area.

I became a Lifetime Member of WW this summer (June). I give a lot of credit for me reaching this goal to attending the meetings WEEKLY!! Many gals and guys came to the meetings for a short while, and then would end up dropping out. We have a great leader in our area. I hardly ever missed a meeting, and I feel this has a lot to do with me reaching my goal weight. Now that I am at Lifetime status, I still go to about two meetings per month, because trust me, keeping those unwanted pounds off forever is just as difficult as taking them off in the first place.
Good luck to you!

Pseudobrilliance - I understand. I get upset if I have to turn down a Frosty or other yummy treat. Because it translates to me that I'm doing it because there is something wrong with me and I can't have what other people are having. But, with WW, you learn how to have the treats and how to make your own substitutes. As for the meetings, you would probably be surprised how many people are there that you know. It is so common nowadays, that no one looks down on you for going anymore. I hope you can over come that thought and do what you need to be happy with you!

I dont go to meetings..... I am online only and like it better..... I dont need the rah rah am self motivated enough to do this on my own and have lost quite a bit so far without the meetings. It is entirely up to you.... if you need hte support of the meetings then go..... if you are able to do this on your own then you can save quite a bit of money. The problem with online is that you don't get the "stuff" you have to buy the points slider and the books all seperately. What I did is wait for free registration promotion at WW meetings, I joined to get the "stuff" and then I never went again.
but that is just me.

Another Bella, cool, lol

I tried to do online diets ( not ww ) and I wasn't held accountable so eventually I stopped, cheeted, or what ever. I did LA weightloss and lost becuase I did not want to go and gain! So I'm now with WW and LOVE it. I go to my second meeting on Tuesday.

Good luck in what ever you decide!

Oh, I got in with 0 registration and $12 per week. So it's not that bad. I also have to ask if they give a discount for students. Anything to save a buck, lol.

Thanks for all of the input. I decided to join online and see how it goes. I decided on the online route because I get a discount from my job. So, today is my first day. We will see how it goes.

Thanks everybody

I love Weight Watchers because you don't have to buy 'their' food, and you basically make your own meal plan within their rules. It is a plan you can incorporate as a new lifestyle.

I would like to use the eTools but you have to be a meeting member which is silly.

Default Free tools

I did great with WW online. I would suggest just trying it for a month or two to get the hang of it online. Then cancelling it and using www.journaltosuccess.com for free. It has the same tools, the food, weight and exercise journals as WW, but it's free. I'm not promoting this website or anything, I'm just so happy to have found it, I want to share with others! The meeting just aren't for me, who has the time.
