calories and points

  • I did a calculation from Fitness mag this weekend. For my weight and activity level, to lose 1# a week I should be consuming 1600 calories a day. From a previous posting I understood that 1600 calories equals approx 29 points. According to WW, for my weight I should be consuming 20-25 pts a day. Does this sound confusing? I know that if I don't get enough calories, my body will shout from the rooftops - Starvation, Starvation, Starvation - and try to conserve all the fat it can.
So would I take in 29 pts a day and hope to lose, or take in 20-25 a day and hope not to 'starve'.
What does eveyone else think about this.
  • It is my understanding that based on fat fiber and calories, there is a range that 1pt can be. Your amount of calories will depend on that. If it interest you to do so, for a few days keep track of the calories that you consume. It will varry even though you pts will remain the same.

    Happy tracking.
  • Don't forget the calories for those ZERO point veggies and any "zero" point items (that 2 tablespoons of Cool Whip Free or such). Those calories are figured into the approximate point range:

    18-25 points = 1050-1400 calories
    20-27 points = 1150-1500 calories
    22-29 points = 1250-1600 calories
    24-31 points = 1350-1700 calories
    26-33 points = 1450-1800 calories
    28-35 points = 1550-1900 calories

(courtesy of Dotti's page). These calorie ranges do not include those zero point veggies and any other freebie type. However you also need to remember that these are approximations and higher fiber foods will have more calories for the points......
  • Thanks guys. For the next week, I'm going to try to count calories while sticking to my WW pt schedule. Did anyone say losing weight wasn't complicated? ;-)
  • It is as complicated as you make it. Try not to stress the calories too much. The pts system is great and made all the so much easier. It was a suggestion to Also tally callories (including 0pt items) and see where you are on average.

    Happy counting!
