Good morning everyone. I'm back at work after almost five days at home with a horrendous cold - the second one of 2004. Feeling somewhat better but not 100% yet. I hope I can get through this one without another round of antibiotic.
An uneventful weekend for me. And of course too much food because I was house-bound and bored. But I have my journal with me and today is a fresh start.
Glad to see you are up and out. I think colds are really bad this year. I had a mild one a couple of days ago that cleared up, but man, did I feel it.
Back today after being gone, mom is doing waay better (after I left, I wonder what that is about). We had a nice short visit in Berkeley with DP's and my mentor (he helped me formulate my master's thesis idea and helped with her grad school letter) and sunday lunch with some more very influential and well loved geographers and anthropologists. I felt so, well, read. Funny that.
Other than that, I cannot be proud of my eating once I left San Diego. I am back on track and hit the gym today.
I think I'm going to London on Friday, but it depends on my mom.
Susan: I sure hope that cold leaves soon! I've been pretty lucky in terms of sickness so far. The weather here is jumping around--one day 20's the next 40's...it plays havoc with my sinuses/allergies so I'm trying to make sure that I dose up on my meds so that I don't come down with anything! Good for you for starting fresh!
Lala: Glad to hear your mom is doing better. Hopefully you'll be able to make the trip to London on Friday. I've gotten quite a few tips from different people about what to see, etc. and I'm getting more and more excited.
Weekend was pretty uneventful for the most part--I went bowling on Saturday afternoon and my muscles were okay yesterday but today they're protesting I used muscles I forgot I had. Not much else happening here; we're getting busy here at work. It seems everything comes all at once.
My dad just told me to go, he thinks my mom is on the mend.
If you wanna, I'll pick up a current what's on and send it to you. If you also wanna, I can send you a timeout guide book and a couple of bus route maps for your general area. I think with your mom, you'll be more comfortable on the bus to do some things.
Are you part of a group or free and easy?
Oh, I inputted my food from this weekend, I dipped into the flexies big time, but I did okay over all. For our belated xmas dinner on Saturday night, I had mostly veggies and stuffing which was relatively points friendly. I ate lots of applesauce and brussel sprouts.
Lala: That'd be great The group we're going with doesn't have a set agenda--from what we've been told we won't be totally on our own but can do things as we wish. The person who is coordinating this trip will be going to the various sites so we won't be totally on our own. One of the first e-mails we received was that we all would gather together for breakfast and talk about what was going on for the day so I figure we'll be learning more as we get closer.
I'm having a horrible time with eating tonight and I'm sitting here at the computer rather than snacking my way through the kitchen. I think I'll be heading to bed early tonight.
Lala Congrats on the loss!!! I find that when I get my water in and am more aware (vigilant) about what I'm eating I see good results. The past few days my focus has become a little cloudy... I sent you a PM. I appreciate the info! It's a balmy 33 here today and the snow is slowly melting. Some of the roads have quite a bit of ice and they need to use graters to get rid of the ice.
Susan: Hope you're feeling better!
Domina: Hope things are going well with you! If I remember right you're in Utah.
Good morning. A beautiful sunny day here on the east coast.
Went to the run clinic last night. The topic was stretching and it was good to be reminded of its importance. Afterwards, we did a 5km run with one long hill, followed by a fartlek (I love that word). It's speed work. My heart rate was through the roof but I felt pretty good, despite the lingering effects of this cold.
lala: Good news about your mom. Guess this means you're off across the pond this weekend? My sister and I may be heading out too on a last-minute getaway. We're trying to find accommodation in Ottawa so that we can skate on the Rideau Canal and run somewhere flat for a change So far, she hasn't been able to find rooms. If that doesn't work out, perhaps we'll go to Montreal.
Melissa: I was reading the other thread and the message from Ideal re lifetime. Can you tell me why so many leaders drop the ball when it comes to lifetime? It seems they are all really great about guiding those who are in loss mode, but when a member reaches lifetime, they're suddenly cut loose to drift on their own. I know there's a Lifetime booklet; I wonder if Ideal got one.
I feel a little lighter today but did not weigh myself. Am trying to stay away from the scale as it just depresses me.
Susan: I really think it depends on the leader--I have a great leader who takes the time to work with new Lifetime members, and others who are experiencing difficulty. I don't understand why Ideal's Leader is like that, although maybe she/he doesn't want to take the time. It's pretty sad, in my opinion, because new Lifetime members need guidance and need to know that the journey doesn't stop when they reach that goal. There is a group of about 8-10 LT members (Free) who attend the Wednesday noon meeting--we've dubbed ourselves the "Lunch Bunch" and our leader acknowledges that we don't have to be there but we attend weekly for the support.
Surprisingly, the sun is peeking out this morning It's a cool 21 but the sun makes you think it's actually warmer than it really is!
I had a frustrating evening, we both worked late and when I got home my fine chicken was still frozen. So, we went to plan b, run some errands and go to burgermaster (local dine in burger joint). I had a chicken master with nothing but veggies and only ate half and then had a big salad from the salad bar with nothing too bad on it. I thought it was a good save. Needless to say, we left mr. chicken on the counter to thaw and he'll be nicely roasted for dinner tonight. I tell you, its time to rethink dinner strategies. I will be making enchiladas for the following day shortly after dinner is served.
Susan -- I think either of those places sounds good to me. I would love to skate. I am going, my mom just gave her blessing, now I need to call the airlines and do some shifting of coupon v. mileage upgrades.
As for the lifetime thing, I think that WW needs to be more sensitive to the needs of lifetimers and use lifetimers as a great example of WWatchers that are not working for the company that have been sucessful. The saturday morning meeting I used to go to has a very vibrant group of lifetimers that always add to the conversation and discussion and are engaged.
Its also interesting to me to see the number of lifetimer cards is greater than or equal to the number of current member cards at my center.
Melissa-- I'm going to send you the 2001 timeout guide (things haven't really changed) today and i'll send you a packet on Tuesday of current stuff. I think my latest timeout london is travelling via camel and walrus to seattle -- I mailed it in Jan. from London. Strange.
Okay, its sunny here and I have to go out and get DP's present for St. Valentine's day.
Hope everyone is doing well--I've been struggling a bit in the evening and I'm frustrated. I have a nice dinner point-wise and then about 7-ish I begin to look for something to eat and it's not like I'm hungry! I think it's due in part to some stress at work and the fact that I feel a little overwhelmed at the moment. I'm getting excited about my trip and at the same time feeling a little anxious about things I really shouldn't worry about. Anyway, I'm really trying to focus today and my goal is to not get off track after dinner time. I need to work on getting rid of some things so maybe this evening that will be one of my small projects. I also need to run to the store somewhere in between.
On a good note, our yoga class will be starting back up on March 8th when I get back from my trip so that will be nice. I enjoyed the class before and am looking forward to being able to take it again.
Not much else happening here--weather continues to be cold, dreary. It's getting harder and harder to get up in the morning and function! At least it's staying lighter later in the evening.
It is soo gorgeous today. Sunny and around 55 degrees, much like yesterday. I went to get a manicure at lunch and had a nice drive back through the arboreteum. I didn't catch any glimpses of skunk cabbage though. However, yesterday I managed to sneak home during lunch and see my garden. Lots of bulbs blooming and things budding out. Quite lovely, makes up for all the dreariness from Oct-February.
Nothing new here, I ate okay yesterday and just had a 1/3 cup of chicken salad with gorgonzola cheese dressing for lunch with a cabbage salad and 5 of my exceedingly buff office mates french fries. I am thinking that the half bag of hershey's kisses in my car are going away. I have already eaten 4 and counted them.
I'm flying out tomorrow and hopefully keep myself on track for this trip. I have nothing on the schedule but lunch, dinner and snowdrops.
Hello everyone. Yes, I am back from the frozen state of Utah. When I left there it was 18 degrees!! That was too cold for me, but Salt Lake City is a pretty nice place. The conference was very worthwhile (and I've attended a lot of conferences in my life). However, I ate way too much. The food just tasted so good. I also think I was so cold I thought I should hibernate. I exercised in the hotel every morning, so I was good on that score. I'll go to WW later this week; we'll see. DH lost 8 pounds since his last WI, so he is crowing.
lala, congrats on the weight loss. That is great. I'm also glad to hear your mom's doing better.
Susan, I hope you're on the mend. Winter colds are the worst. Good for you for doing your training.
DH and I have decided to do a marathon in South Dakota in Deadwood. It looks like an interesting place and we'll see Mount Rushmore, etc. This marathon was very highly rated by Runner's World magazine.
Melissa, your trip is getting closer and closer; I'll bet you're excited.
I can't remember who made the comment, but it does seem true that after you reach Lifer status, the leaders don't really care about any more. I do have a great leader and if I am in a meeting, she will call on me to give advice to the newbies, which is nice, but sometimes I need encouragement.
lala, sorry I misled you. I just cheer on DH who is the marathoner. I have a habit of saying we "did" a marathon when I'm just there and he's doing the running. : )
I have heard that Philadelphia is an interesting city. I've only been to the airport.
This weekend I'm in something called "Sonnets and Chocolates." We (yes, this time I'm actually doing this) perform scenes from Shakespeare and the audience is served chocolate the whole evening!!
