May Chat!

Welcome to May Everyone!

I hope no one minds that I started a new thread for the month... I just rejoined WW a couple of weeks ago, but I've done it in the past and done really well with it, so I'm hoping for a repeat performance... :)

I hope everyone had a good April... I had a 3.2lb loss for the month, which I'm trying to be happy about... But since I had a 10.1lb loss for March, I'm feeling slightly disappointed... Which I know is the sort of thinking that I really need to work on... So for May I'm really going to try and work on being "realistic" when it comes to my weight loss and let go of all that "If only you tried a bit harder..." BS that I always seem to want to tell myself... That is simply NOT TRUE!

Here is what is TRUE for me... I have lost 50lbs in the last year and I AM KEEPING IT OFF!!!... I'm determined to get to goal and I'm excited about doing it with a plan that I can live with... This can definitely work for me.

So here's wishing everyone well... And looking forward to a great month of May!

flickety_switch 05-03-2015 12:44 AM

Congrats on your losses TripSwitch! I met my goal of losing 2.5kg in April so I'm happy. Today is my weigh-in day and I've been up all week due to TOM. Still up 0.3kg but I know I can't have gained so not worried about it. Looking forward to when it comes off though!

I would LOVE to be in the 60s by the end of May but that might be a little realistic. So I'm aiming to drop another 2.5kg, which would bring me pretty close.

I set my goal weight at the start of my journey at 60kg but I'm going to get to 65kg and see how happy I am with the way I look then. I am really short and to get to the middle of my healthy weight range, I'd need to be about 54kg and it just ain't gonna happen. I am already much healthier and happier so once I get to 65kg, my plan is to just see how it plays out.

Koshka 05-03-2015 02:56 AM

TripSwitch - As you get closer to goal it is harder to create the calorie deficit and weight loss often slows down. I would actually be over the moon ecstatic to have a 3.2 pounds loss in a month now that I'm so close to goal.

Saturday I weighed in for a 1.2 pounds loss which was much higher than usual. About 3 weeks ago I greatly increased my activity level. Over the first 2 weeks I didn't lose (water retention from the activity I think) but finally saw a loss this week.

I'm 4.6 pounds away from getting to goal (I'm a regained lifetime member) and I'm impatient to get there...but I am finding it slow as I get close.

Flickety_Switch - This time around I've set my official goal weight at the top of my range. I don't imagine that is my final goal weight, but I think once I get to the top of my range (146 pounds for me) then I will focus more on body composition. I suspect my final goal will be in the 130s somewhere, but I'm going to play by ear.

TripSwitch 05-03-2015 07:23 AM

Thank you flickety switch and Koska Congrats on your losses too...and it sounds like everyone is off to good starts for May... :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Yesterday was my weigh-in day and surprisingly I was down 0.2lb which I'm actually happy about since I was expecting a gain after all the birthday cake and added fruit that I ate last week... So that makes for an "official" loss of 3.6lb in the 2 weeks since I started WW's... AND that's with eating carbs again... I've been eating fruit and I've even had pasta and rice... I had birthday cake and yesterday I even decided that it wouldn't be the end of the world to have... GASP!!!... a small pastry from a bakery that I like... I just used some of my weekly's... Now I did wind up eating 40pts yesterday and I was slightly alarmed at the end of day... BUT after giving it some thought, I had a really lovely day yesterday... I went out with friends and had a great time... I went shopping and treated myself to a new small non stick sauté pan to make my low pts egg and egg whites omelettes in... Lol... And I came home and made a lobster and shrimp lasagna for my family's dinner and had that with them, when normally I wouldn't have dared touch that and tried to get by with just a salad... ONLY to eat God knows what a little bit later... So I don't know, but I definitely think that is moving in the right direction for me... :)

Munchy 05-04-2015 09:42 AM

With the crunch of my wedding coming up, I've been working hard and really counting every bite, lick and taste and I cut out ALL grains and sugars as opposed to having teeny amounts. I've lost 9lbs and I only have about 5-10 left for my absolute final goal in life - it's FALLING off! :)

I've also been seeing a therapist for some of my weight - and other - related issues and I feel fantastic. A load is off of my body and brain. Thank you to those who recommended that I go back. It has been nothing but positive for me. I needed the extra push.

Some of you were asking to see my new wedding dress when I posted about the old one that I hated, so here goes!

Old one I hated:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...64de46dcfa.jpg

New one I love:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...ss%20front.jpg

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...ess%20side.jpg

I've had it for a few months and these are the first pics I've taken - I woke up out of bed first thing in the morning (ignore my hair and glasses!) and made my 7 year old snap some photos. :) Note: I'm not wearing those black heels, I just wanted to see the height.

I'm finally getting excited - less than 6 weeks to go...I'm actually DOING IT! :carrot::carrot:

elaineindc 05-04-2015 02:47 PM

Munchy, the dress is gorgeous and so are you! Congratulations!

I'm so happy to have everyone in this forum, it's a nice place to talk about struggles and achievements. I was thrilled to see a loss last week despite TOM and am crossing my fingers it gets even better on Friday, which is both weigh in day and my annual physical day (fasting and blood-draws are not my favorite ways to spend a Friday).

I started the program in Feb and have a wedding to go to in late August, so that will be about 6 months in and I really think that getting near my goal is possible by that time. I really need to add back in more exercise, but I have been blown away that I could lose this much weight without cardio as part of it (I have an injury that I am nursing and so I cannot work out the way I'm used to right now).

Here's to a great May for all of us!

Daimere 05-04-2015 08:00 PM

Hey there. I decided to restart aw this week. I had my baby boy and in March. I am getting married in July. I am hoping to lose enough inches just to ride some rides during that time. That's the short term goal

FruitsNVeggies 05-05-2015 05:54 AM

Hey all! I just wanted to jump in here, I'm new on the forum, but I've been doing WW since Oct 2014, and I've lost 20 lbs so far. There was a period of 2 months where I didn't track and didn't pay much attention to what I was eating, so my weight stayed about the same. Now, I have about 7-8 more to go, so I really need to keep my motivation up! I am working on weaning my daughter (she's a year now and I've introduced whole milk), so I took myself off of the nursing plan, and hoping to see some better results, even though I miss my extra 7 points! I have been pretty good at going to the gym 3-4x a week, but changing my routine now by running instead of using just the elliptical machine.

Munchy, that dress is beautiful on you!!! You look fantastic!

TripSwitch 05-05-2015 08:05 AM

Good Morning All!!!

Hi to everyone I'm pretty new here as well, so I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here too...

So I signed up for WW online a couple of weeks ago and have been tracking with that and I think it's been going pretty well so far... But I really need the "accountability" of a weekly weigh-in at a meeting... For some reason that really works for me... So I've decided to finally get to a meeting later today and get started... I've been putting it off because my weight has been bouncing around between 168 to 172 the last few weeks and for some silly reason I really wanted my first "official" weigh-in to be in the 160's not the 170's... Well... That doesn't look like it's going to happen right now, so I need to just GET OVER IT!!!... And get started with meetings again since I know that I lose better when I do it that way... And another way to look at it is that I'll just show more of a loss when I finally get to goal... lol... ;)

Hope everyone has a great day... And I'll report back later how my first meeting went.... :)

KittenIsOverIt 05-05-2015 03:51 PM

Happy May everyone... I just started WW again two weeks ago. Yes, Again. This is Round 4. I lost 40 pounds my first time. 2nd and 3rd, I signed up but never really committed. 4th time... 1st week was rough. 2nd week was better. I'm halfway through the third week now and although I decimated my weekly points on Saturday (my day 2 of the week) I am still exactly on point. This time I feel like I'm ready. I'm a total of 3 pounds down now and so eager for Friday's weigh-in!

flickety_switch 05-06-2015 04:10 AM

Munchy, you look gorgeous and very svelte! Congratulations. I just bought my wedding dress and I hope I look as good in it as you do!

It's been very slow going the last few weeks. I'm down 17.5kg and I'm so desperate to get into the 60s but it is taking such a long time! Next week is my six month anniversary and I know I've done really well in that time. Just gotta stay positive and keep on keeping on!

TripSwitch 05-06-2015 08:16 AM

Good Morning Everyone!

So I did finally go to a meeting yesterday and switch from online to a monthly pass... My weigh-in wasn't too bad, considering the fact that I was wearing sort of "heavy" cloths... I used to always try and wear running shorts and a skimpy top and say I was just at the gym (A BIG FAT LIE!!!) Lol... of course hoping I would weigh a little bit less...

Anyway, I really actually enjoyed the meeting, I really liked the leader, and the group was pretty lively... We all had some pretty good laughs and there were some really good insights... The topic was actually meal planning which was great for me, since this is an area I really want to work on... I always dream about being that super organized sort of person who sits down writes out all the menus for the week and plans all the shopping... But I always seem instead to be at the supermarket every few days buying whatever looks "good" and than just making whatever I'm in the "mood" for... :dizzy:

Well I guess there's no time like the present... So time for some "meal planning" :)

elaineindc 05-07-2015 09:34 AM

Just bought a new dress in a size I haven't honestly seen in 15 years. It's supposed to be billowy, yes, but it fits. It's a win, no matter what the scale tells me tomorrow :)

That's awesome! And yes a definite win no matter what the scale says... I couldn't agree more... :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Dixiemom 05-07-2015 09:22 PM

So I have not been around much but I lurk sometimes. I switched to simply filling 2 weeks ago and am really enjoying it. Love that as long a I stick to power foods I can eat until I am satisfied. I find it easy to stick to them most of the time. I feel like it frees me to eat healthy food without 'saving' points for a snack later. Also down 2lbs since last month, so got to love that.

That's great... I've actually been meaning to ask here if anyone was doing that... It's something I really want to try... Sometimes for me all the tracking gets to be a bit much... And I can easily see myself eating that way... I actually printed out a power foods list and brought it with me grocery shopping just to sort of gently remind me to steer myself in that direction...

I think the next time I'm at a meeting I'll ask for some more specifics on it...

KittenIsOverIt 05-08-2015 06:54 AM

Down 3.9 today and got the old scolding message from the WW app.. "we know you're super excited to lose weight, but slow down". OK, I get it, healthy weight loss is slow and steady. However, I'm barely 5'2 and almost 300 pounds. I don't think a 4 pound weight loss is out of line... I know what they are trying to do and that's cool but it's kinda crummy to have WW pooh-pooh what I consider a really good week!

I took a second look at Simply Filling.. nope. I'd rather track than eat fat-free cheese!

elaineindc 05-08-2015 09:10 AM

Congrats, Kitten! I completely agree about the scolding. I got one today, but it looked like I only lost 0.8 last week due to TOM. Celebrating being in the two-teens, it's been a long while for me :)

TripSwitch 05-08-2015 10:38 AM

Congrats kitten and elaine on your loses this week that's awesome!!!

And kitten ITA about fat free cheese...lol... :)

So I'm still really trying to work on this whole "meal planning" thing this week... So this morning instead of making myself more crazy about it I decided to do something else that has been on my "To Do List"...

I went RUNNING!!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

I actually got myself out running before 7AM... Which for me is nothing short of a miracle...lol... And now according to my Fitbit, the WW app has given me 6 Activity Pts so far... Now I can lounge around the rest of day and feel completely justified...Lol... ;)

And I kept my breakfast to 8pts so that should keep me right on target for the rest of the day... Just have to get through some grocery shopping a little later without going too crazy... But I should be fine... :dizzy:

Daimere 05-08-2015 11:35 AM

I have made this the last two days. https://dashingdish.com/recipe/overn...otein-oatmeal/

Since it makes two and I practically need second breakfast and second lunch, it's perfectfor second breakfast. Trying to find cheaper, filling, and healthier recipes while mu budget is low.

Jelma 05-08-2015 01:45 PM

Hi everyone! I'm still here though I haven't been sticking to WW recently. I actually just cancelled my membership. The good news is I haven't gained anything. I am doing a no eating out challenge for the entire month of May. One week down and I'm feeling pretty confident. I actually lost .4lbs from Tuesday until today so yay!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Koshka 05-08-2015 02:07 PM

Munchy - Beautiful dress

I just bought a dress (well actually a top and a long skirt) for a wedding I'm attending. I was thrilled to be able to buy it in a medium which I haven't done in over 20 years.

I do not eat fat free cheese (I can't even find if in stores). Then I eat regular cheese and track the pts out of my 49 wps. But now I get to eat Greek yogurt with not extra pts plus popcorn and other great foods I have missed.

There is a great Facebook group that has all the info. Type in Simply Filling and you will find it. I love that I can eat just a little bit more of healthy foods (chicken , Greek yogurt etc) and not worry about how many pts I have left. I think I am going to be able to up my extra wps, because I am on maintenance and not trying to lose anymore. It definitely feels more like normal, sustainable eating rather then worrying about every little pts. I ate a Boston pizza this week, had a great pasta totally Power foods. That would have freaked me out before and I would have just failed. Now it was a win.

Thanks for the info... I'm less than 15lbs from my goal now (Thank God!) and even though I just re-joined WW I'm already thinking about maintenance... the last time I got to goal it was just from really sticking to my pts.. and of course once I stopped... well, here I am again... So I really like the idea of transitioning to simply filling... I think I'm going to start incorporating a few days here and there into my plan and see how I do...

misspixie 05-08-2015 09:16 PM

I'm a WW veteran, primarily of the Momentum and Flex points days. The plan WORKS, whether it's points (in whatever form) or Simply Filling, and I just wanted to pop by and say you guys ROCK! I'll be joining you when I'm closer to my goal -- trying to shift some pounds quickly right now it's a long story -- but I'll be seeing you all in a couple of months!
:)

And hopefully I'll be a WW Lifetime Member by then too... :D

TripSwitch 05-09-2015 09:35 AM

So last night I decided to dip into my wp's and have a couple of cookies (alright 4 actually...lol..) and some ice cream... And it felt a bit crazy... But I haven't had anything like that since my birthday almost 2 weeks ago... But I did run yesterday and I had earned 7 activity pts from my Fitbit... Plus my weekly's reset today, so it was sort of a "use 'em or lose 'em" thing... and the damage wasn't too bad on the scale this morning (AND I don't worry about day to day fluctuations anymore anyway)

BUT... I still can't seem to help worrying a little bit that using all those wp's is going to effect my weight loss...

BECAUSE... In my mind... in a perfect world I would stick to my pts everyday, not dip into my weekly's, earn a boatload of activity pts and not touch those too, and of course never be hungry... AND lose 3lbs a week!!!

WELL... Today I'm going to work on letting go of all of that!!!

SO... now back to all of this "meal planning" stuff that I'm supposed to being working on this week... Lol... :D

Weight loss would be easy if we didn't have all this BRAIN to deal with! I always worry about eating the weeklies too. I do find that eating them close to weigh-in day causes me some issues. I set my weigh-in day for Friday, that way I have Saturday and Sunday to use my weeklies because I find it very easy to stick to plan during the week. I feel like if I set my weigh-in for Monday, I might have already used a few weeklies during the work week and I'd end up going over during the weekend.

I used 46 out of 49 weeklies last week. 38 of those were on Saturday and Sunday and I still lost almost 4 pounds. However... I am still almost 300 pounds so weight comes off very quickly at this stage. I'm sure I'll find it necessary to cut back on those a bit when I get thinner.

flickety_switch 05-09-2015 06:53 PM

Checking in! Hi to all the newcomers!

Got on the scales this morning and finally saw a decent loss after a few weeks of the scale moving up or not at all (damn TOM).

Feeling a little bit deprived lately but keeping strong because I am so desperate to get to my 20kg loss goal and it feels like it's taking forever! 2.6kg to go!

EmilieMarie 05-09-2015 09:47 PM

Hey guys, here to join the chat!

I signed up for WW today, and will hopefully be heading to my first meeting tomorrow. I'm going back to school at the end of August, going on vacation at the beginning of August, and I'm just tired of saying "Oh, I'll start tomorrow" all the time.

First couple weeks will be tough for me, I just had somewhat major surgery on my tubes/ovaries, so right now my working is getting up and down stairs a few times a day.

TripSwitch 05-10-2015 06:49 AM

Good Morning and Happy Mothers Day :)

Welcome EmilieMarie!!!

flickety switch Congrats on your decent loss that's great! I'm hoping for one too this week...

Kitten ITA... And I know for me I can really "overthink" things when it comes to losing weight... That's why this time I'm really just trying to have faith in the plan... I know WW works for me, so I'm getting on board 100% AND I'M GETTING BACK TO GOAL AGAIN!!!

SO... I'm celebrating today... It was one year ago, last Mothers Day... And I weighed 218.7 lbs... I decided THAT WAS IT and STARTED this weight loss journey...

AND TODAY I'M DOWN OVER 50 LBS !!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

SO TODAY I'm just going to enjoy that and be happy... :)

KittenIsOverIt 05-10-2015 11:43 AM

Down to 284.6 after a 61 point day yesterday. Ok... well, I'm not complaining! My daughter made brownies, what was I supposed to do??!! I tracked every bite though and although I made a serious dent in my weeklies, it's kinda what I do.

Koshka 05-11-2015 01:25 AM

TripSwitch - Just remember that your daily points are your minimum, not your maximum points. For me, if someone said I had to eat exactly 26 points each and every day that would be too dietlike and restrictive for me. Weight Watchers designs the plan for people to lose weight even if they eat all of their weekly points. Yes, of course, if I eat all my weekly points I will lose weight a little more slowly than if I didn't eat them. 49 Weekly Points roughly equates to about half a pound so theoretically I would lose half a pound less eating all my weeklies versus none of them.

But speed of theoretical weight loss isn't everything. First, I don't think I could stick with always eating exactly 26 points. Also, part of weight loss is to teach us how to eat for maintenance. Losing weight means nothing if we don't maintain the loss. I know I'm not going to eat the exact same number of points each day for the rest of my life while on maintenance. So, if I won't do it then, I'm not going to do it now. In real life, some days I'm hungrier than others. Some days I go out to eat. Some days I have special events (like mother's day). So, I won't eat the same amount each day.

In practice I usually end up eating about half of my weekly points each way. I don't go out of my way to eat them, but it doesn't bother me when I do. Occasionally I eat all of them or eat only 10 or so during the week. But, I think that being open to eating them creates a much more natural food environment for the long term.

Why I Don't Follow Simply Filling - I am a huge fan of eating real foods that aren't highly processed. I think that for long term weight loss and maintenance it isn't enough to just cut calories. I have to change what I eat. And, I do much better when I avoid highly processed foods and when I avoid fast food and most junk foods. So -- theoretically -- I like the idea of Simply Filling which is largely focused on more of the less processed foods. But, I found I can't follow it and while I agree with much of the concept, I disagree with some of the details.

WW shows that it is still fat-phobic with how it structures simply filling. As a result, there are certain foods that aren't power foods due to high fat content even though they are nutritious foods. And, in one instance, WW prefers a highly processed food to one that is more nutritious (although higher calorie). Some specifics:

1. Nuts are not a power food even though many nuts are super good for you. Yes, they are high calorie. But they are really good foods. I eat an ounce of nuts every day. Yes, I can count them as part of my 49 points, but since a serving of nuts is 4 or 5 points, it isn't really realistic to have them every day on Simply Filling. I think that having them is healthier for me than not having them. (I think WW should treat them more like oils. So, allow 1 oz. a day to be included in Simply Filling, but beyond that count them in your weekly points).

2. Fat Free Cheese is a power food, but low fat cheese isn't. I think that is a limitation that is unnecessary and is really more about WW being stuck 20 years ago on fat.

3. WW allows reduced-calorie bread on Simply Filling even if it is refined bread. Conversely, whole grain bread that isn't reduced calorie is not a power food. This makes no sense to ever prefer white bread over whole grain. At a minimum, if WW thinks reduced-calorie bread is required it should require that it be whole grain.

4. For many people, not counting and tracking what you eat doesn't work. I know that I need to track what I eat. I do wish on the regular plan that they made it where junk food like cake, cookies, candy, sugary drinks could only be counted from your weekly points. I think it is good that you have to do that with Simply Filling. But, I know that I would not succeed on a plan where I didn't track what I was eating. Of course, that isn't true for everyone.

Daimere 05-11-2015 12:53 PM

Koshka I definitely agree with those assertions. The way I see it full fat cheese within portions will keep you fuller. Plus at this time almonds are good for milk production which is important to me at the moment. :)

Weighed in at 288.8. Lost 2.8 lbs. Yay

sunarie 05-11-2015 01:14 PM

Hey gals. I haven't posted over in this section for a while. I sort of fell off the weight watchers plan with getting ready to move, and we decided to get two puppies later in July so we were checking out kennels and all to find a reputable place to purchase from. Closing for the house is Friday, final walkthrough is Thursday.

I have sorta put a hold on WW for now. With all the busy stuff that was going on I wasn't cooking and we were ordering out a lot. Taco Bell, McDonalds, Pizza Hut.. not good stuff. I put on 5lbs that I had lost. So for the next few months I'm trying out Medifast. It's nice because it's mostly bars and shakes. So really quick grab and go foods that are balanced for nutrients, which I don't feel like the microwave meals with points on them necessarily are. I've always felt those were suppose to be more of a one-off thing.

I'll likely be joining you ladies again in a few months, once we get settled in our new home, with our puppies (we're getting two huskies)! Basically when I have time to really cook again. Hope everyone is doing well!

Also Munchy, I know it's way late but your dress is gorgeous and you look fantastic in it!

TripSwitch 05-11-2015 03:55 PM

Hi All...

Koska thanks... and ITA with lot of what you're saying about simply filling... I'm just getting started back with WW again and I loved my meeting... I really had a lot of fun at it... So it's probably going to take me a few weeks to get back in the groove with tracking.... But now correct me if I'm wrong, can't you switch back and forth between counting points and simply filling... For example do a day of simply filling and then track the rest of the week if you want? Because that was what I was thinking of doing... We'll see...

Tomorrow is my meeting and weigh-in and I think I did pretty good this past week, so hopefully I'll show a decent loss... I think I've used 30 of my wp's' so far, so depending on what the scale shows I'll have a better idea of what to do as far as perhaps some fine tuning...

Yes you can switch on a daily basis which is a great option to have.

Ughhh.... so, my daughter found and ate my Fiber One cookies. I had eaten two and she ate the remaining 3 at once. I keep them in my car because that way they aren't immediately accessible to me at home but I can take one into work with me for lunch. Today when I went to get one, the box was empty.

I'm so annoyed with her that I'm secretly anticipating the gastrointestinal upset she's sure to reap after eating 3 Fiber One cookies. Yeah, I know, I'm a horrible mother.

So anyway I was absolutely starving. I really count on that afternoon snack. I'm stuck with the vending machine and got a Special K bar out of. It was 5 points, so i'll have to shave 2 points off from something else today to accommodate. So frustrating!

Koshka- I agree with most of what you say about simply filling. Even with PPs I avoided most processed food and non fat foods, so I am doing the same with Simply filling. Trying to eat real healthy foods, not just low point foods. I think it is up to everyone to decide how they are going to use the program and what they are going to eat. I see simply filling as a great transition process to normal eating without measuring/ tracking every lick and nibble. I still track everything and make the real food healthy choice first.
