April Chat!

Welcome to April everyone! (at least, it's April in Australia already)

My goal for March was to lose 1.5kg (3.3lbs) as I was on holidays for 12 nights and thought anything more would be unrealistic. I am very glad to say I smashed that goal, losing 2.5kg (5.5lbs).

March was a great month for me in lots of respects- we booked our wedding, good month for weight loss and I had a great NSV a few days ago.

My clothes have officially crossed the line from baggy to ridiculous and I needed to buy a new pair of jeans. I told the attendant I'd lost 15kg (33lbs) and I'd probably need a size 14AU but I ended up needing a size 12AU! And now that I'm wearing clothes that fit, people are finally noticing my weight loss.

My goal for April is to lose another 2.5kg with the aim of meeting my long-term goal of being in the 60s (kg) by the end of May.

Sunarie- congrats on the house! That's super exciting! Can't wait to see photos

SoMuchFattitude- I loved reading your post about the half-marathon. I love it when people don't bullshit about exercise- I too have a Just Do It philosophy and don't really enjoy it most of the time. The fact you did it under such trying conditions is amazing x

Good luck for April everyone!

roaming_tiger 04-02-2015 09:39 PM

Hi everyone! This is the first time I have posted in a chat on here.
My goal for this month is to lose 3 pounds!

flickety_switch 04-04-2015 06:03 PM

Weigh-in day today! I lost 0.5kg (1.1lbs) to make my total weight loss officially 15kg as of today.

My weight has been bouncing around 75kg since we got back so I'm really looking forward to getting under that.

This week was a little tough- I'm always really hungry the week after my period. I can also feel myself slipping a bit with measuring etc so I need to tighten up as I still have at least 10kg to lose and it's easy to get complacent when you get to this stage. Good luck for this week everyone!

FaeReverie 04-04-2015 07:44 PM

Hi everyone! I'm still here, I swear lol. My April goal is to get back on the losing track... I've been maintaining in the low 240/high 230 range, which isny bad at all but i want to get back to it! (Challenge - my 30th birthday is next week. Cheesecake factory. Yay and ack at the same time. The next day is full of shopping though - lots of cardio!)

A good news - normally my main exercise is tunning, but I haven't had a lot of time lately. I'll run outside or at the base gym with DH. My mom, who is disabled, decided she wants to join the rec center, where they have machines she can use and therapeutic swimming for people with disabilities. So I'm going to try branching out my exercises, maybe do some swimming on the weekends. Im going to be there anyway to help her, so why not? We are going to try a month membership and see what we think. Beautiful place too - just opened a few weeks ago.

Flickity - Yay with the clothes!

elaineindc 04-04-2015 08:36 PM

Hi guys, thanks for the encouragement. I skipped my weigh in yesterday because I just couldn't get to the WW center and it's TOM anyway. I am feeling pretty good but I am definitely concerned about Easter supper tomorrow - way too many temptations, and since I'm cooking, there will be delicious leftovers all week to avoid.

Fae: varying the workout is such a good idea - I'm bad about that, I stick with yoga and running mostly, but should be trying zumba, etc.

SoMuch: I loved your blog post. Truth, preach it.

Flickety: I can't wait to have to shop for new clothes! I wore a pair of jeans today I haven't worn in months and they...fit. That's all. Not as exciting as thinking I need to go shopping :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

For weight loss, you could try Spinach. Not only it's high in fibre and low in calories, but according to recent research it contains thylakoids, which decrease the craving for unhealthy foods up to 95 per cent. And one of the reasons for weight gain in eating unhealthy food...

sunarie 04-06-2015 03:05 PM

Hey guys. Just wanted to pop in and say housing stuff is going well. We're submitting tons of paperwork. Had the home inspection on Friday, appraisal is tomorrow.

Been eating out a little still.. trying to curb that. Had some candy with Easter. I'm a total sucker for cadbury mini-eggs and they only come around this year. At least I got dark chocolate though! Weigh in today was up .2lbs from last Monday.

Hope everyone else had a good Easter!

FaeReverie 04-08-2015 01:14 AM

Hey all,

Well mom and I joined the rec centers yesterday. I like the one we went to, it's Shiney and new, and I was able to get mom on some machines! I think tomorrow I am going to go to one that's close to our house though.

I've really been binging lately, and I am trying to figure out why. I think it's stress, and the fact I get hardy any alone time - I'm always either with dh, my mom, or at school. Driving to and from school is it! So I need to step up my solo exercise (maybe I'm weird, but exercise is always something I have done as a fun activity, even without the goal of weight loss. I signed up for a Zumba class while dh was deployed, and confused everyone when I said I wasn't there to lose weight). I normally don't even go to the gym alone... gah!

End rant. Sorry guys.

Sun- haha I rememer when we bought our house. Paperwork is fun. Refinancing was more fun because dh was deployed, so for him I had to sign everything as [My Name] attorney-in-fact for [his name]. Just wait until you get to the closing...

kmac1196 04-08-2015 06:55 AM

Hi all! I'm still here, too. Spinning my wheels for the past year so really working the program now. My goal for this month is to track every day and exercise 6 days (3 weights/3 cardio).

Dixiemom 04-09-2015 03:20 PM

I have not been around much but back now. I changed my goal weight to 164 (from 160). I have been lingering at 161.4-161.6 for the month and a half. So talked to my leader and she said change your goal. 164 is the top of my healthy weight category. I am not a small person and am very happy with where I am. I also want a bit of wiggle room. 160 did not give me that but hopefully 164 will. I feel a bit down that I could not get there but I think in the long run this will be better.

elaineindc 04-10-2015 01:07 PM

Just got back from weigh-in, down 1.8, which is good, but I missed my weigh-in last week, so that's basically all that was lost in two weeks. I'm trying not to be mad at myself - too much Easter food on Easter. In other news, I finally bought a home scale, my first in 16 years! Going to see if I can avoid weighing in daily, but at least doing it on my weigh-in day first thing. I'm a little worried about next week, will be traveling with family and may not have a lot of options. Any advice about what to pack in my suitcase as quick snacks? TIA!

KatieAlyse 04-11-2015 05:01 AM

Hello everyone! I just joined weight watchers this week! I used to be a calorie counter and it worked for me but when I would lose about 30lbs I would celebrate... And not stop! So my mom got on WW back in November and she has lost 50lbs and looks great! She convinced me to try WW because I am just so unhealthy now. I am really hoping the support from meetings and the support from here really helps! I can already feel my face is getting slimmer which is nice! I loved reading all of your posts!

elaineindc - almonds maybe? They can't really ruin in your bag and they have protein in them so it should help you stay fuller longer. Only problem is they are high in points!

elaineindc 04-11-2015 08:16 AM

Welcome, KatieAlyse! I totally get you on the celebrating thing - I lost 33 lbs before my wedding and then completely fell off the wagon. I like the WW wagon so far - glad you're here with us! I will think about the almonds, good call.

Question for others, I bought that scale and got on it first-thing this morning, just as an experiment after having my weigh-in yesterday. Well it says I'm down another 2lbs - crazy and not possible, but I am wondering how you guys manage the urge to look at the scale every day. With WW you have to pick a weigh-in day, do you stick with that? I really loved reading the extra 2lbs this morning because it means I've lost a total of 20 lbs since February, but I have a busy social week coming up and I'm sure that by Friday I will be up again. Just wondering how you guys think about this stuff.

Dixiemom 04-11-2015 02:06 PM

Elaine- each scale is a bit different, so this being a new scale you will just have to weigh yourself on it a few times to see how it compares to your ww weigh in scale. Plus if your meeting is at night vs morning makes a difference etc. I weigh daily, in the morning before I eat. It helps me know the fluctuations in my own body, ie sodium, monthly cycle etc. the scale number is a bit different then my meeting number but I now expect to see that difference so it does not bother me. Each person is different so try to see what works for you. As for weigh in day, I usually weigh in Tuesday's but can weigh in thursdays as well. Just depends on my week. If you are just online, you could change your weigh day but if you play with it too much, you might get in the habit of not weighting and that is a slippery slope to not losing weight.

flickety_switch 04-11-2015 05:34 PM

Checking in! I lost 0.7kg (1.5lbs) this week which was a surprise when I stepped on the scales as they hadn't been moving very much all week!

But in even bigger news, I bought my wedding dress yesterday! It is a lacy, form-fitting number I could never have worn 35lbs ago and when I came out in it in the bridal salon, everyone turned around and gasped. I felt so proud of myself in that moment for all my hard work.

Elaineindc- I look at the scale every day now but only because I've got enough experience/perspective now not to get super hung up/disappointed about the day-to-day numbers or any blips. I only write down my weight on Sundays though. But I am doing WW online rather than meetings so that probably makes a difference.

KatieAlyse- welcome! These forums are great for newbies, I got lots of awesome tips when I started!

I'm off on a three-hour hike this morning to try and repair some of the damage that will be done tonight! My brother passed his physician exams and we're going to a fine dining Middle Eastern restaurant for a four-course soufra. Yikes! Not WW approved!

Koshka 04-11-2015 08:02 PM

Flickety_switch - the wedding dress sounds wonderful!

I have posted in awhile, just been really busy. Anyway, weighed in today and got a another 5 pounds star. I've lost 55.6 pounds now. I'm a regained lifetime member and in another 3.8 pounds won't have to pay for meetings any more (5.8 to get back to goal). At this point, I'm losing super slowly.

This week was hard at first because I had a big family occasion meal last Saturday (I used 53 points for that day) and so had to be really careful during the week. I focused on upping my activity and so was really happy to be down 1.4 pounds (I rarely lose more than half a pound or so so this was great).

Dixiemom 04-12-2015 08:23 PM

Koshka- you are so close. You got this. It may take a few more weeks but you can do it!

roaming_tiger 04-13-2015 10:34 AM

This past week was not so great, but that's okay! On to the next.

Koshka 04-15-2015 01:00 PM

Great attitude roaming tiger

(And, thanks, Dixiemom).

flickety_switch 04-16-2015 07:42 AM

You're so close Koshka, that must be an awesome feeling!

I'm having a bit of a blah week. Went out for the fancy dinner on Sunday night and stepped on the scales the next morning to find I was up 1.3kg (2.8lbs). I know it's not real weight but it's Thursday and I'm still not yet back to the weight I was on Sunday morning.

I'm at a bit of a danger period for weight loss I think. I've lost 16kg (35lbs) so I look a lot different physically and I get a lot of nice compliments. At the same time, I'm a little bit weary of the monotony of calorie counting and of being so strict about what I eat all the time and weight loss is much slower. I can see how lots of people fall into the trap of "eh, good enough" when in reality I still have 10kg left to lose!

Will persist for a few more weeks and if it's still super-slow, I might eat at maintenance for two weeks in an attempt to kick-start my metabolism again.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Koshka 04-18-2015 03:28 PM

Irritating weigh in. I did terrific this week. I had 27 weekly points left, earned 37 activity points (ate none of them). My Fitbit said I had an over 4000 calorie deficit which equated to a 1.2 pound loss.

I gained .2 pounds. So, frustrating. I count points and calories and do it very carefully. I had a 600 calorie a day deficit (per Fitbit). I'm sure that isn't totally accurate but no way should I have gained.

I'm pretty sure that this is water retention from the higher exercise (all aerobic) than usual. So, I'll just wait it out but it was frustrating.

Flickety_switch - I was at that place about 6 months ago and I did go on a plateau for awhile. I really do think the mental aspect of it was huge. After a few months I was ready to really push on again and got out of it.

flickety_switch 04-18-2015 06:21 PM

Checking in! Lost 0.7kg (1.5lbs) again this week which I am very happy with considering I ate far more of my weeklies than I normally would this week.

This week I'm away Mon-Fri for work but I stay in a house so am hoping the eating out will be kept to an absolute minimum and I can just eat pretty close to normally.

I am so close to not being obese anymore- 2kg to go and I'm in the overweight category! Woo!

Koshka- that is super annoying. I hate when you know you've worked really hard and there is no reward on the scale. Did you eat anything salty the day before? That usually ruins my day the next on the scale haha.

Good luck this week everyone!

Koshka 04-19-2015 06:33 PM

No, I was super careful on sodium and on carbs the couple of days before weigh in. I did some research on this and feel certain it is due to the increased aerobic exercise which can cause the body to retain water for awhile. I'm sure this will all work itself out, just annoying in the meantime.

And, grats on the 1.5 pounds weight loss. That is great.

habakuktwo 04-19-2015 08:17 PM

Evening all. My goal was to make lifetime by April vacation and I made lifetime this past Saturday. I had done weight watchers before but quit this time I'm older and wiser and saw it through. My goal is to get to my ultimate goal weight of 118 by the end of May. Right now I'm sitting at 122.4 so I have about 5 pounds to lose.

Dixiemom 04-19-2015 09:50 PM

Flickety- congrats on the lost.

Koshka- that sucks about the gain but you are doing everything right, so it will come off.

Habakuk- congrats on making goal and lifetime.

Thanks it feels awesome I'm in a good place with my body and weight. If only everything in life would be this satisfying right now.

TripSwitch 04-21-2015 12:13 PM

Hi all... I just rejoined WW... I just signed up online so I could start tracking points right away, but I plan to find a meeting so I can weigh in as well, which I like doing...

I've done WW before and done really well with it.... I've been doing all sorts of things this past year to lose weight... And I've lost 50lbs so far, but I would like to lose about 15lbs more and get back down in the "healthy" bmi range... Also than I could become a "Lifetime" member which I've always wanted to do...

So far so good... Not having any trouble sticking to my daily points... Haven't touched any of my weekly's yet (although it is only Tuesday...lol...) And I have a Fitbit that I linked to it, but I'm not planning on eating back any of my activity points and see how I do... I started on Sunday, so I set Saturday as my next weigh-in day...

But I'm already down a couple of lbs on my scale, so I think it's going to be a good week! :carrot:

Koshka 04-21-2015 06:17 PM

TripSwitch - that is a good plan. Remember that daily points are the minimum you should eat. If you aren't hungry, of course, you don't have to eat any weekly points. But to eat exactly the same number of points every day (ie, just your daily points) is hard for many to do and is, in some ways, an unnatural way to eat. I'm not saying you have to eat all your weekly points (I usually eat some of them and none of my activity points) but WW does set up the program assuming you eat them and it is perfectly fine to eat some of them which gives you a more natural eating experience. Some days you may eat your minimum and then other days a little more, which is fine.

Hi Koshka... Thanks... I've actually been tracking with MFP as well, and I'll probably keep that up for a little while longer just to see where my calories are coming in at each day compared with points... Also since I like to eat a lot of veggies and fruit, quite a few of my calories are "zero" points... Which has been making for really filling meals that are still pretty low in points which is great... I also find that it's really nice to have the "weekly's" there if I need them... Like this weekend it's my birthday and I'll probably have some cake or some sort of dessert which I can fit into this plan and not have to stress over... I couldn't do that with the way I had been eating... It's only been a few days, but I'm already much happier and so much more relaxed about what I'm eating now... I had really been just "over restricting" on certain things and I don't think it was very healthy for me mentally or physically for that matter... This is definitely much more "livable" to me... and that's what I really wanted.

TripSwitch 04-22-2015 08:41 AM

Well the WW site and apps seem to be down... I remember the last time I used to have some problems too... I'd had hoped they had gotten there act together... But they still seem to be pretty "buggy"...

Anyone else have issues?

elaineindc 04-22-2015 09:25 AM

Yeah, issues today, but this is the first time I've had any trouble with the app since I started in Feb. It's annoying that the web-based service is also down today. I am going to have to be on my best behavior :)

Savemykissesx 04-22-2015 09:48 AM

Ugh.. hi guys. :\ I am reluctantly coming here to admit that I have fallen waay off track over the past month.

I only joined weight watchers 6 weeks or so ago and did really well for the first couple of weeks but really lost track and started eating bad again once I got my womanly friend... I know it's an excuse but it's true. I just craved a real burger which I did not track, and then it went down from there. I am trying my hardest to get back on track, and will be going to the grocery store at lunch today so I have some food for the next few days/week.

I really need some inspiration for my lunches and dinners - what do you guys usually do for food? Maybe we could post what we eat and the points so we give each other ideas? That's kind of where I am stuck at the moment.

Hi... I just rejoined WW this week... I've done it before and done really well with it... So I'm hoping for a repeat performance... Lol...

Not sure how active this thread is, but I'd love to try and post what I'm eating and the points...

Actually right now I'm pretty fortunate since I pretty much do all the shopping and cooking so I have total control over what I'm eating right now... I'm choosing not to eat out and I'm pretty much weighing and measuring everything so I can be pretty exact about how many points I'm eating.... I'm only 15lbs from goal and I'm determined to do whatever it takes to get there... Although I'm still not very good about making "meal plans" in advance... I mean I buy lots of healthy stuff so it's in the house, but I would really like to start sitting down and do something like plan out all my meals for the following week... Not that it needs to be "written in stone" but really just do my best to stick with it... This way I'll be less likely to "just grab something"... AND I know how that goes... Lol...

So for breakfast today I had...

1 egg and 2 egg whites scrambled with 3 slices of turkey "bacon" and 1/2 a pink grapefruit... and coffee with some almond milk "creamer"... All for only 6 pts

Now I guess I better go have another cup of coffee to get motivated to start working on that food "plan" idea I was talking about... Since I have no idea what I'm making for lunch or dinner tonight... Lol... :D

Savemykissesx 04-23-2015 03:30 PM

Haha ! I do much better when I have a food plan written out, too. My boyfriend and I used to do it every week, but last night I went grocery shopping and got myself some stuff to have, too. Breakfast isn't exactly my favorite thing so I usually don't make it a big meal/large pointer but sometimes I do..

Today... for breakfast - light and fit strawberry yogurt for 2pts
Lunch - a honey turkey & cheese sandwich...
2 slices of light Italian bread: 2 pts
2 slices of Honey Turkey breast: 2 pts
1 slice of 2% red. fat American cheese: 1pt
My sandwich was 5pts and I also had strawberries and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for 2 pts so my lunch was 7pts.

I'm really trying to get back on track for my own sake, I will do better with my eating out and staying on track from this point forward! I WILL I WILL!

Koshka 04-23-2015 06:13 PM

I don't usually like to cook or do much for breakfast. It is usually either a cheese stick and berries or sometimes a Quest bar or a Kind bar. If I get up late, I just skip it altogether.

Things that I eat for lunch or dinner a lot:

Salad - I make a large salad with lots of greens and veggies and make my own balsamic vinaigrette (usually 1/2 T. olive oil and 1 T. balsamic vinegar). For protein, I usually put in either some chopped chicken, tuna pouch, salmon pouch, 2 T. hummus or 2 T. cheese (usually feta). I might put in a few almonds or walnuts.

Frittata - I posted this entire recipe on my blog a week or two ago, but basically I stir fry veggies in oil then mix eggs and pour over the veggies and cook until done. Sometimes I put in cheese, pressed garlic and basil (or some combination of them).

Rotisserrie chicken - I eat some chicken breast (no skin). I usually make some veggies to go with this - asparagus, green beans, stir fry veggies, whatever.

I make a light meal sometimes of a cheese stick (chopped up), berries, a couple of triscuits, maybe an ounce or chicken (but maybe not) and maybe a few nuts.

Hummus - I spread it on a tortilla and then fold together and eat. I eat with some veggies or fruit.

Quesadilla - 2 low carb La Tortilla whole wheat tortillas with 2 ounces of chicken, some low fat cheese and some Sriracha sauce in between

Tuna Salad - Made with just a little reduced fat olive oil mayo and a chopped egg and some Sriracha sauce. I don't usually eat it with bread but can make a sandwich with it

Fish - I buy this Tilapia Pesto fish filets from Costco and have them with veggies. Also there is a Sea Salt and Roasted Garlic Mahi that I buy frozen at Costco and have with veggies.

Salmon - I sometimes make salmon cakes. For the breadcrumbs, I instead process oatmeal and use that since most breadcrumbs are refined grain.

Main Snacks I have - 1 oz. pistachio nuts (have this almost every day), 6o to 100 calories worth of dark chocolate (at least 72%). Occasionally a Vitatop. Berries. Cheese stick.

flickety_switch 04-23-2015 06:44 PM

TripSwitch, I find the WW app pretty rubbish, the MyFitnessPal one is so much better which is another reason why I'm considering ending my online subscription and just going with MyFitnessPal to lose the last 10kg, although I'm reluctant to stop something I've had success with. I currently count on both WeightWatchers and MyFitnessPal and it seems silly to continue to pay.

I've been away Mon-Fri for work and I'm really proud of myself for how well I've eaten, especially since I haven't been able to exercise due to the truly insane weather.

Haven't been able to hop on the scales every day like I normally would so will be interesting to see how well I do this week! I am so close to being out of the obese category and I can't wait to get there!

That looks like you're staying on track to me... AND YES YOU WILL! YES YOU WILL! :D

I had a HUGE salad today for lunch (I think I ate like a whole head of lettuce today...lol...) and I've been experimenting with different "zero" point dressings and adding 1tsp of really good EVOO to help the flavor for just 1pt... I also had some tuna with 1tbsp of mayo with a few whole wheat crackers... It did all come out to 11pts total, but it was A LOT of food and it was very filling... Which was good and I wasn't very hungry at dinner... Just had 4oz of the roast chicken that I made for my family's dinner and a glass of skim milk and I was fine... If I get hungry again later, I'll just have some fruit... So my dinner was only 6pts...

It's my birthday this weekend... So my family always like to do "cake"... And even though I'm not usually a cake person, we've been getting these really good ones at a local bakery the last few years and so now I'm actually looking forward to it.... I'm sure that the cake that we get there probably has a bizillion calories in it...lol... But I've been saving all my "weekly's" and I even have a few activity pts too... So I should be good :)

This all sounds so good... Thanks for some really great ideas... I'm definitely going to try a few of these... :)

I've been using MFP too and I really like it also... I'm probably going to keep using it as well, since I'm not quite ready to give up calorie counting just yet... And it also links with my Fitbit, although I haven't been paying much attention to the amount of calories it tells me I should be eating.... Perhaps I should've been and maybe I'd be at goal already...lol...

The WW app is definitely better than it was a few years ago when I last was doing WW... and I like that Fitbit links to it now... But it could definitely be improved... I'm planning on starting to weigh-in at meetings, since I know for me that seems to really keep me on track and plus I'm determined to get "lifetime" membership status this time... Last time I made it to goal, but of course stopped going....

Now if they had a "Lifetime Yo-Yo Dieter" status... Well, I would have achieved that a long, long time ago....

Happy early birthday! My birthday is next Thursday and I am hoping the girls at the office actually do NOT get me a cake, haha it's just not worth it to me - though I do love icecream cake. :| It was also a few girls birthdays yesterday so they got a cake for them and I am proud of myself for staying away from it.

Last night I ended up having a pizza that I just came across on Pinterest, it's a flatbread (2pts) with sauce that is 0pts and some turkey pepperoni that I only put 10 slices of and it was only 1pt, I used 1/3 cup of 2% red fat Mozzarella cheese and that was 3pts, I also put mushrooms (my fave) on it, came to a total of 6pts! It's definitely my new "go to" as of right now.. yum yum! I was still kind of hungry after and had enough points left over that I could've had a second one, but I didn't.. instead I wanted to eat up my cherry Garcia froyo, which ended up being 10pts but it's gone now! *dance dance* And next time I'll prob. just make some veggies on the side or a salad and do it that way.

This morning I had my usual 2pt yogurt and will be having my same sandwich as yesterday but with an extra slice of cheese.. ;P and will be having 2pts (12) chips salt & vinegar kettle cooked along with some strawberries. Tonight I am going to my aunts/cousins house to see my niece and nephew and cousin and so I am hoping I can just get a salad from somewhere close to their house for din din.

Sounds like you did great for your lunch (sounds delicious) and atleast you were good for dinner because you were so full from your lunch! Great job!!
