In It For the Long Run #17
Come on in! We're a group of friends that are pursuing this long journey of getting the weight off and keeping it off. We come from all over and have started at different points. We're here to help, encourage and support each other in the ups and downs. We have learned that this is a lifelong journey and that we have to hang in there...for the long haul.
Come and join us! Welcome! |
Hello!
Just a quick report this morning. I've had two accomplishments the last few days. First I got my bike out (finally!) and rode around the neighborhood for 30+ minutes for two days in a row. Second, I went to WI yesterday morning and was down 4 pounds. This is two that I had gained two weeks ago and two new friends gone! I finally got my ten-pound star! Geez, that took a long time but who cares, its still gone. Yesterday, was kind of a lax day so today I'll find some sort of activity to do. I may start shampooing rugs after church. Have a great OP Sunday and start of the week! |
Hi all , This was a busy challenging week for me . It was extra busy , & unusually hot . I made some good choices & some not so good . But what got me was water retention . I drank lots of water & it all went to my legs & ankles . I gained almost 2 pounds . Its cooler today & it'll be a better week activity wise , too . I've been busy building a tower/fort for the kids , which I have enjoyed a lot . It's pretty much complete , now . So , I need to find another project . That's why I love summer time .
I hope everyone has a great week . Kathy |
Good morning,
Not much time this morning but I just wanted to drop in and say hi. Food wa good yesterday and had a good walk with the dog. Kathy - wow, you built a tower/fort??? You must be very handy with the power tools. I'm jealous and in awe! What a great grandma you are. Humidity in the summer makes it hard to feel like we're doing okay because of the darned water retention. Got me today so I need to drink more. Have a great day! |
Hi everyone -
WOO HOO I lost another 4 this past week - feeling pretty good :) Not the easiest journey but definitely rewarding. I just was out searching for a Mac & Cheese recipe for dinner and noticed that we're lucky in that almost anything out there can be tweaked to go w/our program. |
:bravo: Houndlvr!! Four pounds is fantastic. You're doing this at home aren't you? That is great commitment. Keep up the good work. That's what I like best about WW - is that we can work all foods into our plans as long as there is moderation and balance. I think so much more realistic than other "diets" that restrict foods.
:cb: :dancer: |
Hey guys, I'm back. It's me, Cynthia. Had to sign on with a new name and all since I've changed internet service and everything. Kind of nice to see some new faces (or returning ones as the case me be).
Terri, that's great that you are riding your bike, good for you. Remember that conversation many moons ago about neighbors doing weeding in our yards? Well, mine put in about 5 hours in mine today and it was GREAT!! The previous owners never did anything in the 4 years they lived here and the place was amazingly overgrown. Thanks goodness for Gary, the neighbor. It would have taken me weeks to figure out what all to do, never had so much landscaping before. I felt bad because I could only spare a couple of hours myself, have too much to do with the house and getting it liveable. Plus, now that I have basics again, nothing gets in the way of my eating and exercising properly!! I'm getting back in the groove, got internet a day ago so can finally "talk"with you folks again. Bend is great - so beautiful and so many trails within town, it's amazing. I think I'm going to get in LOTS of exercise this summer. DH and I are backpacking this weekend, and I think it will be the first time I'm fit enough to really enjoy it. Can't wait to catch up with everyone, Cynthia (who will figure out how to do an avatar and put in a sig line at a later date). |
Good morning!
I'm sorry I don't drop by so often these days. I'm very busy with work (at the yarn shop) and designing (my real passion) and teaching (which I also love) and that leaves only a little time for my family - and almost no time for posting on boards. I'm down another couple pounds in the last month (have to remember to update my sig line here). I haven't been "trying" like I know I should - I've just been living, and I'm glad enough to find that I haven't gained weight like mad, ya know? Headed off to Orlando (and Disney) at the end of the month - I figure that's gotta be a null sum - lots of bad food, TONS of walking and sweating - right? |
Hi everyone ,
Determined , yes I do have a woodshop . I have sawdust in my veins . I come from a long line of woodworkers . Not that anyone would show me anything . That wasn't for girls . Eventually my dad stopped worrying that I was going to cut off a body part & it gave us something in common . Sadly he passed away 5 years ago & I inherited his radial arm saw . Some people relax by knitting , I garden & do woodworking . Cynthia , we're practically neighbors . I live in Washington state . Lots of recreation , if you don't mind the occasional shower . Hey , that's why the Northwest is so lush & green . I went on my 1st graders field trip , to the zoo . That's one benefit of raising kids again , you get to do fun things like the zoo . I love the sea animals the best . Puffins are so cute . They are little sea birds . I love the cats , too . It was supposed to rain , but didn't . Other than having a cold , it was a good day . Point wise it's been a so so week . Jenanne , i'd settle for a couple of pounds amonth , right now . You're doing something right . Houndlvr , 4 pounds is great . You must be very focused , great job ! Talk to you all later .:) Kathy |
Good evening ladies!
Wow, three new posts!! Welcome back Cynthia and Jen! I've missed you both! I've had an okay couple of days. Tonight the dog and I are mad  because at about time for our walk it started raining and shows no sign of letting up before bedtime. So I shampooed the living room carpet instead while dog and DH hid in the bedroom. Cowards. :dizzy: MIL got moved today into her new apartment. Finally! She will be so much happier knowing that there are people around her all day - people she can get to know and will be looking out for her. It will also be good that's she less than a half-mile from my work. I think Saturday, I'm taking her shopping again and make sure everything is gone from the old apartment. Then, life will settle back down again. :crossed: Tomorrow, we're having a cousin of DH's and her husband over for dinner. So there will be mad dash house cleaning tomorrow night when I get home from work. That's always good for a point or two burn! Cynthia - Okay, in this case, I'd call that a great neighbor! I'm sure that was a huge relief to have help after all the work you've done recently to get moved. I'm jealous of your exercise opportunities. So, I'm expecting to live vicariously through yours experiences! :p No bike riding this week (too much rain and distractions) but I'm planning on next week. Jen - You must be loving the yarn shop. Hey, great job on two pounds gone. It is progress! Post when you can - you are definitely missed but your family time does come first. Orlando sounds great. You definitely will get in your exercise. Have fun! Kathy - Your post made me smile. Its been awhile since I've been to the zoo. I used to take my nephews and nieces but they think they outgrew it a few years ago. Enjoy those grandbabies! I better get to bed. The dog is going to be crushed when he has to go to the garage to sleep instead of outside and plus no walk. Have a great Friday and weekend! |
Terri, at least you still got in some APs shampooing that carpet, that had to be some work. The neighbor and I spent three hours trimming back some shrubs all along the driveway. This is about four years of growth and it took a bit of doing, particularly getting the stuff underneath so the lawn crew could keep it cut with their machines. We uncovered some sprinkler heads so maybe the grass in that area will no longer be yellow  ! There's got to be at least another day or two of solid work left before everything is up to snuff, then I have to buy some bark dust to put on quite a few of the areas to keep the weeds down. Originally I had planned to work an hour a day in the yard, but with the gift of Gary's help, I didn't want to let it pass by. So I've had to put off working on the inside of the house for now.
Kathy, fortunately Bend has weather similar to Denver and doesn't get much rain at all during the summer, which is one reason we chose it for our summer home :s: . In fact, Redmond, which is about 20 minutes away, is considered a desert and looks it. Ugh, pretty tired now. I never get a chance to get on the computer until late these days, mine hasn't been put together yet so have to wait till DH is done with his. Since he actually uses it to work (what a concept), I have to wait till he is done. Have a great weekend all. Cynthia |
I'm definitely loving my new job. Working in a yarn store is bad for my budget though... LOL! I'm definitely addicted.
This week is all about work (two new classes starting at the shop, boss going out of town for a week, etc) and lawncare (mowing our multiacre lawn) and getting the house ready for the kids to return. Just checking in (because I don't want to fall out of the habit again). |
Hello ladies!
Summer is here! Already griping about the humidity. :( I'm doing fairly well. The scale is slowly creeping down and I'm anticipating a decent WI on Saturday. I think all the exercise is finally helping. I know I haven't been a complete  with food but I haven't totally sabotaged myself either. Jen - Wow, you have a busy week. At least that keeps you from sitting around eating too much junk! Have fun with the classes and enjoy the outdoor time on the mower. I love doing the riding mowing because I get to daydream. Everyone, have a great OP week. Let's have a focused one and post some more losses! |
Yee ha - down another 2.
Someone asked if I'm doing this at home - YES and it's tough to keep myself honest, believe me but it's worth it! One meal at a time :) |
i made it one week doing weight watchers and i lost 6.4 lbs. i am really excited about losing!
|
Bummed
Hey, all... I'm new here. Thanks for the welcome!
I'm also BUMMED. I finally made it into the two hundreds last week... but barely... and sure enough, I gained just enough weight this week to put me back in the threes. It was a miserable week... I knew it was going to be bad, but still. Waaaaah! Okay. I'm done wailing... and I'm determined. This week will be different. |
Hello ladies!
I'm anxiously awaiting WI tomorrow morning. Food wasn't the best today. Work had a special day and provided lunch for us but it was shredded beef sandwiches, potato salad, beans, and slaw. I ate small portions though. The killer was the Drumstick ice cream. Geez, those are good. I'll walk the dog vigorously tonight and drink lots of water. Hey Goofy! Where are you and whatcha doing? You're probably out whipping the yard into shape, the house into shape or kicking butt on some trails. Houndlvr - Congrats on your loss! Good job. :high: Jkfla - Holy smokes! 6.4 is great! :high: for you too. Welcome to the group! Stay jazzed! SpazzyKC - Hmmm, I thought I had posted a note on your thread too. Wonder what happened. I'm glad you joined us as well. Sorry about the bad week. Here's :goodvibes: coming your way. Make a plan for the week and get your journal out. Those always help you regain control. I've got a work picnic tomorrow night so I'll be busy tomorrow and food will be not great. I'll check back in on Sunday. Have a great OP weekend! |
Great job!!!! Doesn't it feel wonderful when you see your hard work paying off??
I had a good week - I lost another 1.5 which isn't much but I'll take it. Last week my dr diagnosed me w/divurticulitis (hiss...boo) so I think that the 4 plus the 1.5 is due to cutting out all the "nuts". I have to say that I miss berries and raw veggies but I will be able to add these items back in a little at a time. Seems like being the queen of greens caught up with me :) Hope everyone has a good week - |
Hi everybody ,
I'm like a human yo yo , week before last I gained , last week I lost 2.8 , this week I gained 2.7 I think . Today i'm journaling for the first time in a long , long time . Even though I know it's crutial , for some reason I have a hard time doing it . The first two years I did it faithfully . Welcome spazzykc . I'm sure your next weigh in will be better . I know how wonderful it felt for me to get out of the "three's" , so I can understand your feelings . Just keep at it . Last week was crazy . I spent the 16th at Mary Bridge childrens hospital from 9-3:00 . Christopher , my 7 year old grandson , who i'm raising , has been diagnosed with high functioning Autism . He was previously diagnosed with ADHD , so I don't know if he has that or not . (His sister definately has ADHD) . So I have been trying to get info on-line . Unfortunately alot of the so called professional sights contradict each other . Now his daycare provider thinks he diabetes , because he goes to the restroom alot , all of a sudden . I have noticed that , but I think it's from not drinking enough water & getting oversensitive . He hasn't been extra thirsty . I have an appt. for tomorrow afternoon , just to be sure . Better to be safe . Two good things about this time of year are YARD WORK ! :D And fresh fruit . Yum ! Have a good week . Kathy |
Hi ladies,
Not much time to post. Houndlvr - :bravo: Good for you. Keep it up! Kathy - My brother has two of his three kids with ADD or ADHD - emotional/chemical problems of some sort. Its very hard on him so I can only imagine how hard it must be for you two. More importantly, its hard on the kids. I'll keep you in my prayers. Take care of you too! Have a good day tomorrow! |
Thanks for the encouragement
Kathy and Terri.. thanks for the words of welcome and encouragement. It's been a good week. I'm <gasp> exercising!! I joined Curves, and have gone religiously. It feels so GOOD.
Kathy - autism has quite a spectrum, and there are some wonderful resources and groups out there. (((hugs))) It's always hard to hear that one of our children's children are having problems. :::Off to find water::: Karen |
hi!
Hi everyone! Well, I'm new here and still trying to figure out the best place to post! : ) I have (ideally) about 100 pounds to lose. But, I am not even thinking about that right now. I just want to get to where I am healthy again! I am doing WW (not for the first time, of course!) But, I love boards like these and I'm hoping that by checking in with you girls I can stay on track this time!! : )
Thanks! |
Good evening!
What a gorgeous day today! DH and I are doing the South Beach Diet. We're on day 4 of phase 1. I AM hungry which I'm not quite sure why when you're supposed to be not hungry and satisfied. I'm wondering if its because I'm doing this and still keeping my points within the WW range plus exercising somewhat. This feeling isn't all that unsual because I feel this way whenever I start being really focused. I tried to ride my bike tonight and did only 20 minutes. Not enough stamina. Hopefully, my body will adjust and if not, I either have to lay off the exercise (except dog walking) until I can add back some of the good carbs or go ahead and add back some now. So far, I have lost about 4 pounds. Karen - Curves! I hear lots of good things about Curves. Good for you! Just hang onto how good it feels whenever your motivation dips low. It will be well worth it. Julygirl - Welcome to the group. Hope you stay in touch. Good luck with your efforts. Hey, I live in the KC area too! So you know how gorgeous today was! I have done WW several times myself. I lost almost 30 pounds 9 years ago and then quit. Gained it back with a bunch of its friends. :( I've rejoined several times and have not gotten past the 10 pound loss until this time. I am determined to to stick with it this time. I'm doing the SB twist because I wanted to get past this point of plateau this time. (Also doing it for DH's diabetes). Then I hope to level back off and lose consistently. Are you doing any exercise? DH is working on dinner so I better go help. Have a great evening! |
Hi everyone!
I am new here and hoping I can join in! : ) My name is Lauren and I'm 30, and single (but dating my darling BF two years this Oct.) I live in Kansas City (Terri, I saw that you are from Missouri -- what part?) I am a graphic designer, and also do freelance design and other artwork on the side. I have been battling my weight my entire adulthood and have done WW countless numbers of times, some more successful than others. I am back at it again for six weeks, and have to make a confession: I am UP a pound from where I started. I didn't even know that was possible! But, with that said I did lose 1.2 this week (I weighed-in last night). And I am ready to get back on track. No more foolin' around or excuses for me! I have 100 pounds to lose, but am not even thinking about that right now! I just want to get healthy. I have PCOS and must get it under control, especially if I want to avoid diabetes, be able to get pregnant someday, and just be the person I know a really am! I am so glad that you all are here! :grouphug: It's great knowing that I'm not alone. I hope you don't mind me poppng in whenever I get a chance! |
OOPS! I forgot I already introduced myself earlier today -- DUH! I just remembered thinking on my way home "I need to post on that thread" and not checking again to see that I must have already done it today at work. I am really not as flaky as I must seem!
Terri -- what part of KC? I live on the Plaza and wrk downtown. I am doing Jazzercise (when I actually go!) in Mission. I also try to walk (yes, it's a beautiful day!) and I play tennis too. Which WW are you going to? OK, sorry again for repeating myself! |
Lauren - I live in Blue Springs and work in Overland Park (College & Metcalf). I go to WW here in Blue Springs every other Saturday morning.
I love bike riding and am trying to get my stamina back so that I can ride the Little Blue Trace trail out by Independence Center and the Katy Trail at either Sedalia or Columbia - or both! Good to meet someone local! |
Yes, it is nice to meet someone local! : ) I am curious, why do you go every other week? I sometimes wonder if weighing every week is a good idea or not. Kinda makes you obsess over the numbers, rather than the bigger picture and bigger goal at hand.
I did once ride my bike on the Katy Trail. It was fun! Over Memorial Day Weekend I went to San Francisco with my girlfriends and we rented bikes and rode across the Golden Gate Bridge! It was SO cool! I have been thinking of buying a bike for myself for my birthday. I think it's a fun way to get a workout! Goodnight everyone! Happy Friday! ;) |
Hello ladies!
The weekend is slipping away much too quickly. Yesterday was our church's ladies ministry meeting and luncheon. I was apprehensive about the food since we're doing this no high-sugar carb thing. But, I skipped past the sandwiches and desserts and took fresh veggies, fresh fruit, a breakfast quiche and some veggie pizza. It was all very good food and I was very happy with myself for making the smart choices - and for recognizing that yes, I can be satisfied without all the other food. After that, we went to Lowe's and ended up looking at patio furniture for our deck. We found what we wanted but couldn't find anyone to help us so we left and went to another Lowe's. We didn't have trouble finding help; just took them a very long time to get it down and outside for us. Geez, that little shopping trip took almost four hours. I was pooped after that and was lazy. Today is not looking much more energetic. I need to be working on laundry and bills and should also be outside weedeating. I like to be lazy on Sunday afternoons! Julygirl - I used to go to WW every week and have started and stalled on WW several times over the years. My whole focus became WI day and what the scale would say. My focus should have been on planning, journalling, making smart choices - and I wouldn't have had to worry about WI day. But nope, I only frustrated myself. This time around, I decided to do the Flexible plan in an effort to make my focus on doing the right behaviors. So far its helped me. Well, I better get busy and do something. Have a great Sunday afternoon! Hello to everyone else! |
Hi everyone ,
Welcome Lauren . I think it's better to lose for our health . Looking good is a nice side affect of weight loss , but our health is more important . It doesn't take much before you feel it , either . I had only lost 30 pounds & my cholesterol went down over 70 points . I bought a points calculator . I've bought them for for other people & never bought one for myself . I thought it might give me a new perspective . So far so good . Karen , you are right . Autism has a broad spectrum . I'm used to ADHD , and I work with Autistic people , but they are ******ed . So , this is new to me . Have a great week . Kathy |
Hello! Helllooooo!
Getting awfully quiet in here. I've been trying to make more time away from the computer to be productive around the house and exercise. Doing well with food. I know I'll have a good WI on Saturday. Feeling great except for the summer allergies. Makes me want to sleep all the time. Kathy - Enjoy the calculator. Anything to help us stay motivated and keep the food in perspective. Have a great Thursday. I'm really looking forward to three days away from work. |
Terri: Pretty bad when I have to chase you down all the way over here to wish you a happy birthday!!!! Now that it's past midnight, I guess it's belated, but Happy Birthday anyway! :balloons:
|
Hi Thin,
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I post on three threads and have been very sporadic these days. I hope everyone else is doing okay. What happened to everyone? Maybe its time to let this group fade away. |
Hi all .
I've been having a pretty good week , so far . Just have to get through July 4th . I don't have anything planned for tomorrow . I am loving the points calculator . I went to a fruit stand Sunday & bought tons of vegies , yum . I've been out in the yard alot , too , so i'm hoping saturday is a good weigh in . I've been reading quite alot about the supposed new program , although I hadn't heard a thing at my Weight Watchers . What do you all think . It doesn't sound too different from what I do now , sort of . Kathy |
Hi Kathy,
I haven't heard anything about the new program either. I go on Saturday so maybe she'll mention it then. Have a great 4th of July. |
Hi ladies,
I've posted here for a very long time and its sad to see that there is so very little traffic. There used to be many groups and lots of friends. I am moving over to the Support threads - 300+ thread and a monthly Bootcamp thread. Join me over there! |
