Help

  • Ok, I have been doing WW since January 2013, I have lost 14 lbs so far.

Now, I am thinking, wow, I just spent almost 200.00. (What is going on in my head.) Am I losing at a good pace, should it be more.

I haven't been tracking for a few weeks, still staying on plan.

I need to know, am I going through something right now that others have gone through. Part of me, wants to just go it alone and save the monthly cost. But I don't want to blow what I have done so far.

Any words anyone could share with me?
  • I guess for me, I look at how much money I was spending eat out!!!!!!!
  • The whole reason I joined was because I had to pay money. I was doing the weight loss thing on my own for months (losing and gaining the same 10 pounds over and over) and having a cost makes me more motivated to take full advantage of the system.

I am new to this but I wonder if choosing not to track is the reason for your slower weight loss. Maybe try intense tracking for a week or two before giving it up, just to see how you do. Best of luck and congrats on your 14 pounds!
  • I've heard really great things about WW from others who have tried and who have successfully lost weight by following the program and forming eating habits that they could use their entire lives. I thought about joining but decided against it because I know how my brain works and I would most likely starve myself all week, tucking away points, and blowing them on a bunch of junk on the weekends. I'm an all or nothing kind of girl and I didn't think I would have the discipline to stick with it...I would get bored with keeping track of points.

Yes, you've spent a lot of money on it, but how much have you saved by following the plan? I think you have to look at from a cost benefit analysis. If you don't think you are benefiting from the cost, maybe you should look into something else. And this isn't a race, if you are steadily losing...something must be working.

    Best of luck!
  • I paid over $600 when I was going to meetings/have eTools (I just did the math) and I would do it all over again!

The last few months, 4 or so, I was on and off plan and back and forth with the same 5 lbs. I finally quit, knowing I was wasting their time and our money. I went off plan and gained back most of the weight I had lost with WW. Now I am doing it all on my own. I have all the materials from WW PP 2012. I've been doing it for almost a month. I might join On-line in May while there is a joining special. My original plan was if I stuck with WW, tracking, WI, etc. for three months, I would join back up with monthly pass.

But, I just wanted you to know I'd pay it all and more to continue losing weight!
  • I had to think about the cost of joining WW. Belonging to TOPS is cheap, but I wasn't getting any results other than having a bunch of wonderful people to socialize with once a week. I wanted results and after carefully researching WW I decide the money will be well spent if I get this weight off and keep it off.
  • You said you are not tracking, but still following plan. Chances are you are not following the plan as well as you feel that you are. My WW leader's favorite saying is 'Only track on the days you want to lose weight.'

Yes it's an investment, but if you jump in with both feet I bet you'll see better results. On the flip side, what do you think your results will be if you quit the meetings? I'm thinking if you feel lackluster with the meetings, it will be even moreso without them. My opinion would be to get back in to the spirit of the program like you had when you first started. It's normal for the motivation to wane after a while (no matter what program you are on). Just recommit today. You can do this!
  • I do better when I go to meetings and weigh in regularly. So, lower cost options don't work as well for me.

I do want to address though being a potentially "slow" loser. At one point I was averaging about half a pound a week. Then I got away from going to meetings while we were moving and a year later I had gained 30 pounds. So - slow losing is much better than the alternative for most of us.

Yes, I would love to lose 2 pounds a week. However, I have to work really, really hard to average a 1 pound or so.

There are several reasons that this can occur. First, I am in my 50s so my metabolism isn't what it was when I was younger.

Also I have a sedentary lifestyle. Lots of people have jobs where we sit a lot. I found that wearing an ActiveLink and now a Fitbit was an eye opener.

The main reason I was losing so slowly was that with my sedentary life I wasn't creating a big enough calories deficit even though I was rowing several times a week and do strength training. I've found that to get 1 pound a week loss I need to walk almost every day for an hour, plus do strength training and to lose more than that I need to also do rowing (I have a machine) several times a week.

I record everything I eat every day (I use MyFitnessPal) and send that info to my Fitbit and I find that I have to be very, very vigilant on both eating and activity to create a large enough deficit each day.
  • I think it's worth every penny, I love all the e-tools and the meetings help with motivation and accountability!
  • I want to thank everyone that has replied, the matter of factness and frankness as well as kind words shared with me, hit home.

I need to put more effort into this, I know I feel 80% better with just the 14 lb loss, and I could do more. But I have to be careful with the exercise, because I know I have I do not want to out perform and then when reality sets in gain alot back, I do not have the lifestyle to do alot of exercise so I need to happy medium.

But the comments helped me. So, back at it, thanks to you guys.
