Lorna - yes, DH is "dear husband." I think the Fitbit would be a great gift.

I have the FitBit Ultra and LOVE it. It's not much more than a fancy pedometer, but for some reason I'm much more motivated by it than any pedometer I've used. It totally motivates me to move more...anytime I get a phone call, I stand up and start pacing. Sometimes I just walk while watching tv. I park far away from stores, etc. It's really fun to see how many steps I can rack up. I've worn it twice for sleep, but it doesn't do much for me in that department. I sleep fine, for the most part, and I wasn't that interested in the sleep readings. But the extra steps? Oh yeah. Love it for that. |
I am still torn, I have the Fitbit sitting in the package still. I am actually leaning towards the Activelink since it is waterproof! But then I go back to the fitbit because no matter if I am on WW or not, I will have it. Grrrrrr
|
I'm liking the FitBit now, not loving it... But it's OK... and I'm going to try to see if the numbers it's giving me for total calories burned for the day can start to help me create more of a calorie deficit to get the scale moving in the right direction again... And I went ahead and got the FitBit Aria wifi scale even though I already had the Withings wifi one, so I could just have it all integrated at the FitBit site...
Now I just need to figure out if I'm going to go to the trouble to double track everything on both WW and FitBit... |

Well, here I thought I walked a ton, I work in schools, but man, I didn't even get 6000 steps in, close, but not quite, that stinks!!!!
I think i will go run up and down the steps :)! |
DH is dear husband or darling husband or even D****d husband....
I do so love the Fitbit. What has been so good about it is really showing me the connection between my activity and what I eat and how much I lose. Each week before I go to my WW meeting and look at what calorie deficit I have for the week and then I see if what I lose actually fits. And it has been pretty accurate...not exactly mostly I think because my metabolism is not that great since I've lost weight before. But it is accurate enough that I don't ever get to WW and find myself surprised by my weigh in. |

I'm still experimenting with the FitBit... But I really want to see if I can use the total calories burned number it gives me each day and create my deficit based on that number and see if it translates into the expected loss like it sounds like you've been able to do with it... I think my problem right now is that I'm collecting all of this data... from my FuelBand, the Fitbit... and not to mention my HRM's from my runs, etc... But I'm still not quite there yet, as far as figuring out how many Weekly's and AP's I can eat and still lose... oh, well... trial and error... but I'm OK with that... :) |

I do find that if I am careful about recording what I eat at MFP and use my Fitbit all the time that my actual loss is about 10% less than what Fitbit says it should be. So if fitbit says I should lose 1.1 pounds (Based upon my deficit) then I tend to lose about 1 pound. That is pretty close given that you may be off a bit on calories (particularly when eating out) and my metabolism is probably out of whack some from losing weight in the past. |
Koshka thanks for reminding about this... I can't believe I completely forgot that I could link MFP to FitBit... :dizzy:
I haven't been bothering with MFP lately, since I've just been counting WW pts these last few weeks... But I'm really interested now to see how the numbers start adding up when it comes to what FitBit says I need to create the deficits that I need... So even though I really wanted to just count pts... I guess I'm gonna use MFP as well... |
So far, I really like the FB! The sleeping part is so cool!
I am not so sure the calories are accurate, but the mileage is super close to my Garmin! |
Quote:
That doesn't mean I don't pay attention to points. I do, but just think about that in my head while I record on paper (well on the computer) the calories at MFP which works fine for me. |

This can depend to some extent on what you eat. WW points don't include fruits and veggies, for example. Also WW will charge more points for a higher fat or higher carb food than a food that has a lot of protein or fiber.

But actually, I saw recently that there are people who are working on prototypes for "activity" monitors that are already incorporated in the fabric of underwear... And I guess you just put it on and go about your day... That should be pretty interesting if that ever hits the market... Lol... :) |

I HATE things on my wrists, so I figure at least I am wearing it and sure enough it tracks each and every time I wake up! |
1 thing I have noticed is the FB doesn't always register the stairs!
I know for 100% that I have walked up and down my stairs at least 4 times today, and it is only saying 2! |
Quote:
Another thing I have read at other sites is that it sometimes registers a change in air pressure as a flight of stairs. So, if you are walking on a very windy day with storms on the way in you might get some false readings. The only time I really noticed a lot of misreadings on flights was at an amusement park on certain rides. |
if anyone wants to be fitbit friends, I'm daimere there.
|
I don't have any stairs in my home but I live in a hilly neighborhood. I do a daily walk that usually follows the same path. I have had the Fitbit register as few as 5 flights of stairs and as much as 8 for the same walk...

I've actually been pretty surprised by how accurate the floors "climbed" has been... I decided to go for one of those badges the other day and did 41floors in my building and it was dead on accurate... Now I'm determined to get the 50 floors badge in one day... Lol... And it even gave me the idea to do a 110 floors in a day challenge as a 9/11 tribute this year in September... So I'm going to see if I can get people together for that when the time rolls around this year...
Oh, and on a completely unrelated note... I actually lost my FitBit yesterday... And I went a little crazy... I immediately ran out and bought a new one... And it turned out that I somehow managed to drop my original one in my pool some how... Lol... and I promise I wasn't trying to swim with it or anything like that... lol... It just somehow came out of my shorts pocket even though it was clipped in there and managed to fall in the deep end of my pool without me even realizing it... I have heard of a lot of people losing these little things pretty easily without even realizing it... So I'm really going to have to be more careful, because I'm not going to run out an keep dropping a 100 bucks if this keeps happening... They really should make some sort of mini "leash" for the thing so you can pin it or something to your shorts or pants or in your pocket somehow... |

I have been hooking mine to my bra! |
Quote:
I still think I'm gonna contact FitBit customer service and see if I can still get it replaced... this way I'll have it as back up... Because I have a feeling that I might "lose" it again and this way I won't have to deal with my own insanity like yesterday...lol... :D |
Quote:
I have had better luck just attaching it as is on my bra. Stays there better and no worry. |
I haven't bothered contacting FitBit to see what they have to say yet... I'm using the new one that I picked up on Friday... And if I weren't so intrigued by how many calories it says I should be eating to lose I probably wouldn't have run right out and replaced it... Although I am really liking the floors climbed feature... I've been climbing stairs like crazy just to earn those badges... I actually did 41 flights of stairs in my building one day last week.... And now I'm determined to get my 50 floors in one day badge next...
|
I didn't wear it all weekend so it could sit in rice just in case and it works perfectly!
They must have some sort of 30 days return policy, right? |
The flex is out and now I want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Quote:
Although I'm gonna miss the "floors climbed" since the Flex doesn't have that... I went a little crazy yesterday and nearly killed myself climbing 75 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS in my building all so I could earn that badge... And then last night while I was lying in bed with my legs aching all over... I started looking up info about Tower Running on my iPad... that's where they have races up the stairs of really tall skyscrapers all over the world... Actually, I've always wanted to do the Empire State Building Run Up Race that they have here every year, but it's by invitation only... Although I did find out with my little bit of research last night that you can get in if you raise money for charity... So who knows...? :D |

Just bought a fitbit Zip a little over a week ago now and I am loving it! I clip it on my bra every day.
I didn't go with the others because 1) the cost and I didn't know if I would use it a lot (I so do) and 2) I didn't care about the sleep part right now. It makes me walk a LOT more! If anything it made me realize how much I do not walk because of work! |
