Default I'm LAZY!!!

OK, so I have been following the weight watchers plan for 5 weeks now and I am pretty happy with my progress so far (10 lbs) considering I've had a few cheat days with birthdays and stuff and I've gone out drinking a few times...I'm still trying to fit weight watchers into my 24 year old lifestyle!

Anyway, in the 5 weeks that I have been on the plan, I have only been to the gym once! I know that I can optimize my weight loss by exercising but I have such a hard time finding the motivation because honestly...I'M LAZY and I hate working out! It also doesn't help that I have a full time job that is over an hour from home so I spend most of my time driving and working and when I get home I just want to pass out!

Where do you guys find your motivation to get moving?

There are tons of people on this site that lose weight without working out, I prefer the results of both myself. I feel pretty lazy but do it anyway, but I don't drive an hour a day. Just have to reduce the cheats or at least keep the calories to where they should be with cheats. Also alcohol slows weight loss, I try to drink only like once a month, sometimes less.

It doesn't sound like you're 'lazy'; it sounds like you are busy/tired (as work/society does run us down) or maybe don't see exercise as an important enough need since you can lose without it. or maybe you have not found something you look forward to doing.

If you do want to exercise, I would suggest taking a closer look at what really gets in the way and start there...If you are tired after your drive , maybe join a gym near work. if you dread working out because it is boring, find one with classes like zumba. if it is hard to see the value of exercise, make a list of all the ways it would benefit you and look back at it during times of low motivation. if it is the cost, just get some videos and weights (or find free workouts on youtube) to work out at home. if you are too busy, try to schedule just 30 mins a couple times per week to start (and put that in your schedule and keep the appointment like you do your other appointments)

What you're doing now is obviously working, so don't be too hard on yourself. But if you want to add a little more activity, there are easy ways to do it other than the gym. Can you walk during your lunch breaks at work? Can you get up a little earlier and do 20 minutes of yoga or stretching? Maybe while your dinner is in the oven, pop in a quick workout video? Only exercise on your days off?

I am a newbie who has been struggling with the exercise part too. Here are two things I have found that has been working for me.

1. Scheduling exercise like an appointment. I set 30 minute daily appointments on my calendar and reminders to sound so I have to turn off the binging on my phone. Reminds me that I need to do something to get moving that day.

2. Multi-task with my time. I ride the bike in the morning while my coffee is brewing. I do a short yoga/exercise video while dinner is in the oven. DH and I will take turns on the BowFlex while a load of laundry is in the washer or dryer.

For me, because I don't feel like I have to block out a big chunk of time, only about 30 minutes, I don't end up feeling overwhelmed about how much time it is taking and how much the other stuff I still need to do around the house.

I am also realistic. I just know I won't exercise every day. Sometimes I just want to sleep in that extra 20 minutes or I want to snuggle on the couch with the dog while dinner is in the oven. That is OK with me and I don't beat myself up about it. I figure as long as I am getting my body moving and sweating 3-4 days a week, that is better than nothing.

You can lose weight without working out but you will also lose muscle along with the fat. Your heart is a muscle, the biggest one in your body. You will not be toned and will look heavier than a person who works out and weighs the same.

I schedule exercise into 6 days a week. I write it on the calendar like any other appointment. If you can exercise for an hour, you can break that down into 10 minute segments six times a day. Take a walk at lunch time, get up and move doing commercials while watching tv. There is a total of 20 minutes of commercials each hour so you can do something with that time. You will find that the more you exercise, the more energy you have and the more you look forward to it.

And finally, exercise is required to be OP with WW.

This thread came at a good time for me. I am in my 4th weekof WW with a 6 lbs loss and I really am enjoying it. Exercise is a hard thing for me, I can't see myself being overly active, so I am not going to start a huge exercise program now that I know I will not maintain, it won't make sense. I would like to just settle in on walking a few days a week, I can see that as something I will continue to do.

Thank you all so much for your input. I as off work today and it was nice out so I made myself get up and take a walk to the store. It was about .7 miles each way so I was pretty proud of myself! I do get an hour long lunch at work so I will try to start walking during lunch since the weather is getting better.

I also think adding activity to my tracker really helps me to put food into perspective. For example, I only got 4 activity points for the walk I took today...that's the equivalent of 1 shot of vodka. That'll definitely make me think twice before I go out drinking again!
