Default Veggies vs Fruits

I mentioned to a friend at work how there was zero change at my weigh-in this week. Granted, she is not on WW, however she said it's probably because of all the fruit I've been eating. Do you think that's true?

I eat about the same amount of fruits and veggies each day, but that is a lot. Should I be eating less fruit?

Today I have:
1 cup blueberries
1/2 a cantaloupe1 banana
1 cup strawberries
1 cup grapes
1 pineapple ring (thaqt's all that was left in the fridge)

So am I eating too much fruit?

That seems like a lot of fruit for one day, to be honest. It could be the fruit or it could be water weight. If it happens again next week then I would cut back on the fruit.

Since 1 serving of fruit equals 1/2 cup, that's something like 9 - 10 servings right there so yes, it's possible. Especially if you're eating that much every day.

But isn't fruit zero points? I thought that would make it okay to eat a lot of. If something isn't worth any points, how do I know where to stop??

It is zero, but like anything else, you can eat too much of it. You still have to stay within the guidelines and serving size.

That seems like alot of fruit, a serving in WW is 1/2 cup. That's alot of sugar.

Thanks for the advice. I had no idea!!

What about the veggies? Can I eat unlimited, or does the same rule apply?

I would be more aware of fruit than veggies. I do know that veggies like carrots and others have sugar in them.

Fruit is zero points, but that is not the same as unlimited: WW recommends 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day and that is 5 servings combined. A serving is 1/2 cup of fruit or veggie, except for the green leafy veggies where a serving is one cup. Also, not all veggies are 0 points. Starchy stuff like potatoes and corn have points.

The zero point thing is to make sure we eat fruits and veggies. On old plans -- and I was guilty of this -- if I had to chose to spend my points on an apple or, say, some cookies, I'd go with the cookies. Zero point fruit means I don't have to make that choice and the more fruit and other healthy food I eat, the less I want the cookies. But make sure you aren't eating so much fruit that you aren't getting all of your daily points in and don't forget the Good Health Guidelines (GHG)

Me, I actually eat about 5 servings of fruit a day with additional servings of veggies on top of that, so some people are able to eat more than the recommended amount, but only by a few servings. 10 servings of fruit every day seems like quite a lot but, as someone else pointed out, it could just be water weight. If, however, you continue to not lose weight I would definitely cut back on the fruit.

That's about 425 calories of fruit, if you measured accurately. They are zero points, but not zero calories. And about 105 grams of carbs, which is more than 1/2 the recommended for the day.

It's 0 points BUT not 0 calories.

Look here: http://www.thefoodchart.com/fruit-calorie-chart.php

You need to cut down on your fruit intake. Just because it's 0 points doesn't mean it's a free for all.

Veges are a little different, they don't have as much sugar in them as fruit.

Zero point doesn't mean zero calories. I went and looked up calories on what you posted and came up with 492 calories which if it counted would be 13 points.

WW assumes people eat I think about 250 calories total per day combined of fruits and vegetables. Zero point veggies (remember starchy veggies aren't zero point) aren't as big an issue because they are much lower calorie - a cup of lettuce for example is about 10 calories.

I always try to eat more veggie servings in a day over my fruit servings. Yes, they are (almost) all 0 points, but they still have calories. I try to remember something my leader told us, especially in the summer when fruit is more appealing to me than veggies... An average serving of veggies is 20 calories while an average serving of fruit is 100 calories. It helps me to get 3 veggie servings and 2 fruits a day.

If you had more weight to lose, you'd probably have a little more leeway (I say 'probably' because everyone's body is different). But yes, that is a lot of fruit especially since WW counts 1/2 c as a serving.

Personally I generally aim for no more than 2-3 servings of fruit a day. When I go over 5 servings of fruit/veg a day, it's because I eat more veggies usually. Calorie-wise (and carb-wise), adding another cup of broccoli is a lot different than adding a cup of sliced bananas or something.

If you are eating lots of 0 point foods because you struggle with hunger, it might be time to look at what else you are eating, and find things that curb your hunger better. Or if everything looks good (you can always post a few days of eating to get some opinions), consider tweaking your dailies/eating back more activity points - but instead fill it with nice filling protein or something high in fiber.
