Ok, I am baffled. I have tried to make Oats in the crock pot many times and every time I either burn it or it still is crunchy. Does anyone have a no fail recipe for steele cut oats for the crock pot?and if so what size crock pot do you use?

I don't have one but I do know from my own experience if my crock isn't at least 1/2 full it will burn.

Also you can try just soaking your oats over night in the fridge and heating it up in the morning...I have a friend who does this.

you can also make one big batch every few days and put it in individual size serving containers in the fridge and just heat it up in the microwave every AM. That's what I do-- quick, healthy and easy.

I've used rice cooker before but not crockpot. If you have one perhaps try it there?

how do you do it in the rice cooker?

I make my Steel Cut Oats in the crockpot all the time. I don't know the "size" crockpot I use but it is the big one not a small one.

3 cups Oats
10 Cups Water
3 Cinnamon sticks
1-1lb bag of frozen blueberries
Pinch of salt

I put it all in the crockpot, put the lid on and cook on low for 9-10 hours (usually overnight so it is ready when I wake up). The blueberries make it purple so it doesn't look pretty but it taste good after I add my sweetner to my individual serving. It makes 10-12 one cup servings so my family and I have enough for a few days. I store it in individual servings and then just pop it in the microwave to heat it up and then add sweetner.

Spray the inside of the slow cooker with PAM or similar and do not cook in a crock that is too big for the amount you are preparing; either use a smaller crock for a smaller amount or prepare a larger amount and portion it out.

I've had great success with steel cut oats slow-cooked. My kids' favorite is with pumpkin puree, cinnamon, and nutmeg (pumpkin added in the morning after cooking).

I also add a little more water in the morning, scrap down the sides and bottom of the crock, and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Like you would any other grain. Put the grain in, the right amount of liquid, and click the clicky button.

I've done rice, lentils, oats, quinoa, barley, millet -- all kinds of things in the rice cooker.

Some might take a second click thru like rice pudding, but it's pretty straightforward.

For steel cut oats, try 1 part oat to 3 parts water. Don't fill more than half of the rice cooker though because oats tend to bubble a lot.
