Default Wedding Reception

Hi Everyone!

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and am wondering how to count my points when it comes to the food at the reception? I've been back on track since Sunday and don't want to mess up the progress I've made these past few days.

I was even going to eat beforehand and NOT eat at the reception but that would look at bit weird.

Is the reception traditional? With a sit down meal? Or is it buffet? Or is it much more casual?

I'm thinking of it as I would a restaurant out with friends.

I might have a meal somewhat before or at least make sure I wouldn't be starving by the time the reception starts.

I'd skip the appetizers, and then keep portion sizes in mind for the entree. The palm of the hand for the protein, a fist for rice or pasta. If it's huge, then I'd even cut everything in half before starting.

Make use of the dance floor and go to other people's tables to chat so that you aren't sitting at your plate the whole time.

And, of course, go easy on the drinks.

As far as counting points, do the best you can with what you know is on your plate, and then maybe add a point or two for "unseen oils and butters", as they can sneak into any meal.

You'll be fine! Enjoy the celebration!

It's buffet style I believe which is probably a good thing because I know without a doubt there is going to be salad and at least one vegetable being served. It's the 'other' stuff that worries me a little! I know I can avoid the dessert because sweets just don't appeal to me but the salty foods do. I'm going to eat before I go, that way I'm not starving when I get there and won't overindulge.

Thanks so much for the wonderful advice!

I hear ya ... I have a wedding this weekend, too.

I'm not a huge fan of wedding food, so this is my plan:

1) NO ALCOHOL. Only diet soda and sparkling water.

2) I know that the hors d'oeuvres will be better than the entree. So I'm going to use the one-point-per-bite method at the cocktail hour.

3) I will skip the salad dressing on the salad.

4) Dessert *or* cake, not both.

I'm also going to stick to my WW dailies this week and try to earn back at least 15 APs.
