Wow... So inspiring. The woman showing the picture of a kid and her husband got me crying.

I want to get a mole removed for 2 years (not esthetic purpose, I just feel it's changing a bit) but it's like impossible to have a skin doctor for that over here :(

Jinksie 07-13-2011 05:39 PM

yeah my nanna got a melanoma and my aunt too (she has a chunk missing in her leg)... I have so many im worried about - just cant get them checked here - lack of funds & insurance.
Another reason to go back to Australia.
My brother had his checked out and removed, (just so he didnt have to worry about it anymore, even though it was nothing), in australia for almost free

I'm a melanoma survivor. Almost died from it when I was 22. I have a huge disfiguring scar/skin graft on my face as a reminder.

It is scary stuff.

Oh I am jealous catahoula but congrats on getting into the 130s! I got to 139.8 a few months ago and now back to 147 :( but I am determined now more than ever to get back. I know some of it is water weight (4th of july crap and birthday party). I really do wish I could control myself better at these social engagements. It almost makes you want to avoid them all together.

I'm posting my goals for this week/month that way I keep accountable:

Goal 1: Don't eat breakfast before 10am (I find if I do, I tend to nibble and eat more during the day, not good for me)
Goal 2: Walk 10k steps each day
Goal 3: Avoid candy dish at work if at all possible
Goal 4: Reward myself

Cant a family doctor do it for you Turbo? I have a few moles on my back and my doctor asked me if i wanted her to remove them... i said no, only because i thought it would be painful and i am a wuss :P She said if i ever needed to get rid of them to let her know and she would fix it for me. She does it right in her office. No need for a specialist here.

they numb the area. Depends how you have it removed too. They can freeze it, like a wart (just different). They can also cut it out layer by layer (its a different way to test each layer to make sure 100% you're safe), and they can just cut the whole thing out

*waves to everyone*

Spooky glad to see you are having a better week, hopefully the energy will kick in soon!

I've seen the video... I'm always paranoid about skin cancer because I'm very freckled and mole covered and I burn super easily. :-/ I need to have a few things checked out but lack of insurance has made me wait. It sucks.

So in the states, if you dont have insurance, you have to pay to go see a doctor? I dont get that... in Ontario, we are all covered by OHIP and go as freely as we want to for any issues, including specialists. Having to have insurance to cover you, or making you pay out of your pocket surely doesnt promote people keeping them selves healthy. Never really understood the American health system lol, but i did watch the documentary - Sicko. I just dont know if the guy who does it is trustworthy with his information lol.

yup. Without paying out your butt for insurance you're out of pocket.
i went to the ER when i visited - despite having travelers insurance - i ended up paying like 1grand for some lab work and antibiotics.
Ex got strep throat, and he needed the injection, we got a bill for the DR (who was with him a whole 30 seconds) for $400 + the 200 we paid when we went there, then the lab bill and there was another bill.
Obama is trying to get a better health care system in, so the insurance companies no longer hold a monopoly over people, but the extreme rightwing republicans wont have it (pardon my political talk :D)

In Australia, we have medicare, everyone who is Australian has it, and it comes out over everyones taxes.
i had a cervial cancer scare and i had to go to a gyno, who cost $360. I had to pay that, but i took the recipt to the medicare office, and was refunded $270 cash in hand. I wasnt charged for the lab work or the subsequent D&C that was done on me.
went to the dentist, didnt pay a cent ;)
went on contraception, didnt pay a cent. lol
great system.

Ugh, I'm hurting!!! A bunch of us went out to dinner because two of our friends are moving. It's actually my fiance's two band mates. They are moving to Japan for a year. So we all went to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Creole/New Orleans, decadent, rich food. I figured, what the ****, because I was way below points yesterday. Just had gotten to busy to eat. So I figured I would eat whatever I want tonight bc I rarely eat there and it was a special occasion. No guilt. So I did. And now my stomach is in knots!! It hurts so bad bc I haven't had anything that rich in ages. Ugh, I really wanna cry. But damn, it tasted fantastic!!

I have one.. back at my dad place, which is 850 km away :S that's my main problem, I wouldn't mind him doing it, it's just I never can get a meeting with him when I'm my dad place. And it's super had to get a family doctor in Qc these day, and to be worst, the town I live in now is missing dermatologist. It SUCKS!

You're a strong woman/ mother who's making healthy changes inside and out, and he's manipulating you to self-sabotage.. don't give him that power. He wants the reaction.. stay cool as a cucumber, and kill him with kindness. If you keep up with that he should start to knock his sh*t off at at some point. I speak from experience- it took me 4 years of an emotionally abusive relationship to finally get that point. Then I became strong enough to leave him once and for all.
