Exercise is the one thing I really hate about any weight loss journey, 'cause I really don't like exercise. BUT I know it's necessary, and something inspired me these past two weeks and I've been amping up how much I exercise. Especially this past week.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I did 30 min on the elliptical everyday after work. I work 9am - 9pm, so to work 12 hours and come home and exercise is crazy, but I did it anyway! Then I took a yoga class on Friday and did 45 on the elliptical yesterday.
I did end up going up .6 lbs, but I'm not sweating it. I did eat all of my weeklies and a handful of APs, and my body could just be getting used to adding all of this activity into my routine. Just need to figure out the balance that my body likes and responds to.
But for a girl who, as a teenager, needed to be bribed by her mother into exercising (true story) and would, as an adult, need to talk herself into doing just 20 mins in a week, for me to willingly do 3 hours and 10 mins of exercise in a single week and actually enjoy doing it is is a HUGE NSV. While some of this is, obviously, about losing weight but so much of it is also about getting healthy and I feel like I'm definitely doing that, regardless of what the scale says.
Woo that's fantastic! I don't know if I'd feel like coming home and exercising after a long day like that.
I don't know if the park districts around you do this, but many of them around here offer things like a free drop-in to some of their exercise classes, free sampler classes, etc just to get people to try something and hopefully like it enough to sign up. Even if they offer it, it might be hard to find something that works with your schedule but doesn't hurt to look into it. Hopefully for free or very cheap you could try some more activities and see if there's something you enjoy enough to look forward to (and even if you don't want to sign up for the class, maybe find a dvd or other more affordable option).
I know in my town right now they have one coming up for Nia (never tried it but from what I understand, low impact cardio), Zumba, and then a free drop-in to an assortment of other things - step, cardio kickboxing, yoga, etc. And one town over offered a free class recently that sampled all of their water aerobics classes. Most of them seem to let non-residents come too if there are still spaces after resident registration has passed.
Congrats!!
I feel the same about exercise. I have NEVER enjoyed exercise until recently. I have now fallen in LOVE with spinning! I took a class a few years ago and HATED it. I vowed never to return. Well now i'm a regular. I never thought that I would actually enjoy working out....EVER!
I am on the fence about buying an elliptical. We don't have room for one in our living room, so I'd have to put it in the spare bedroom, which gives me another excuse to get an iPod because I would be bored outta my mind without something to do while working out.......... Do you listen to music while using the elliptical? TV? Read?
I don't like going to the gym. Not just the physical work out. I have to drive at least 20 minutes to even get to a gym. Then there are fees. And, I don't know much about ANY of the equipment. I get frustrated trying to use it and no one is around to help, so I give up. It's just a big to-do for me.
So, my other option is build up a "home gym". In my mind it's one of my spare bedrooms. I'll have a TV and DVD player for workout DVDs, an elliptical, a mat, hand weights, stability ball and so on.
But, I really wish that it was already THERE. That I didn't have to clean out the room, get equipment and spend 100's "renovating" the room. HA!
My boss says she alternates between reading and using her iPod on her treadmill. She once was super fit and now not so much, but never more than 5-10 lbs "overweight". Like me, she has ADD so I don't know HOW she is able to read and run at the same time. We've never talked at great lengths about it.
Sounds like you like excersice about as much as i do Rose, its a huge chore for me. I despise it actually. People tell me they get this "high" after they work out, and i just dont see it. At all!
I PUSH myself to do 30 min on the elliptical after work at midnight (i work evenings), then another 10-15 min of weights. I do that and then i go home... 3 -4 days a week. It sucks, but i turn on the TV in the gym and try to find something that will absorb me so i dont even look at the time tickin away. I never knew how slow 1 min actually was until i started excercising

This is actually very new to me, and only within the past two weeks. I think my body is still adjusting to working out so much, which is why I may have had a small gain. But it's okay, because I feel better, so that counts almost as much as weight loss!
I do have to admit the 45 minutes yesterday I really, really had to force myself to keep going. After about 10 minutes I was ready to quit. Somedays are better than others I guess in terms of motivation.
I never use to excercise but now I almost feel guilty if I don't! I can feel my body getting more toned and it feels great. I try to do the 30 day shred (three nights on, one night off) and then I go for about a 3-4 mile walk every night. It also keeps me more on plan since I'm not busting my butt just to make a bad food choice later.
I hate doing cardio, I prefer doing weights. But I need to do cardio in addition to the weights. But do know I feel better when I do work out. So I do it. Problem for me is dragging the kids with me to the gym... I hate doing it, so much so, I'd rather not go. So good for you doing it even if you'd rather not! Keep it up!
