OT - cell phone

Welcome Sharon, you've come to the right place.

Hey, this is OT but I like to help ya'll out. I had to get new cell service, lots of reasons, and Amazon.com is having a great sale right now, at least for the T-Mobile stuff. I don't know if it applies to other plans. Anyway, here's the breakdown:

T720i cellphone: normally $299 - now until January 27th - FREE!!! T-Mobile has a $50 rebate (which also includes the camera that goes with the phone) and Amazon has a $250 rebate. You can print both of these off at the site. You do have to sign up for a year for a plan costing $34.99/month or more, but they seem to have a good plans. I got 600 anytime minutes and free weeknights and weekends for $39.99. I used to have Sprint PCS and it would cost me much more for something similar. Anyway, just a bargain thought if anyone else is in need.

It's not limited to the T720i, either. A lot of the phones are free, and a couple even end up with you getting $50 back!!!! Guess they really want that year contract, .

Hump Day!

Just a quick post this morning. I worked late again last night and was too tired to do anything online.

DH and I had our first at home weigh-in. He is down 1 pound and I'm down 3. This is good! He is slowly learning how some of his favorite types of foods are just too high in points for a small portion. I've been doing good on points except for yesterday. We went out to a celebration lunch at work and then DH wanted pork steaks for dinner. I ended up over by 4 points. I was very good at lunch - grilled chicken, veggie of the day and smashed potatoes (which I left most of on my plate). :p I'm all primed to stay focused today and get my points down to 30.

Sharon - Welcome to the group!

Chillin - What is Ipac? Is that like a palm? I'd like to have a spreadsheet on my palm that calculates points but don't know the formulas. Did you say its in excel? Do you mind sharing it or how you developed it?

Got to run. Everyone, keep up your great work and your spirits. We can do this - one day at a time!! Take care!

Chillin 01-08-2003 10:56 AM

Terri, first congrats on the losses, that is great.

An Ipaq is Compaq's (now HP's) answer to the Palm. I've had both and I definitely like the Ipaq better. It runs on MS Software so it's easier for me to add my own applications. And I still have the WWCalc for the Palm on my hard drive. My email addy is [email protected]. I can send you the Excel spreadsheet and the Palm stuff that I have. I have a rather extensive food point collection, but I don't think they are updated. Go to Akasha's site, the goddess of for the WW Palm people. She has done a lot of work making sure the restaurant point applications for the Palm are current.

I'm going to be helping a friend scrape his garage so he can paint it - so that should be some good activity points,!

Terri in MO 01-09-2003 07:52 AM

Cynthia, thanks for the info. I'll email you tonight. How was the garage scraping?! That should burn off a few points.

Yesterday was another good food day. I ended the day with one point to spare. It really hasn't felt that hard to do it this time. I have had three very stressful and frustrating days at work and I haven't even thought of the candy machine. Before, a snickers always was a boost I needed on frustrating days. We're going out tomorrow night to have Mexican. That will be a challenge because I love the chips. Hopefully they will have fajitas on the menu.

I talked to mom last night. She is starting to sound more down. I think the realization that dad is gone is really beginning to sink in. The waves of profound sadness hit sometimes when least expected. I do hope that she will sell the place and move closer to one of us kids. Even though she would have to give up the horses, a little place in town would be better.

Not much else is new. Have a great OP day!

Take care!

I thought I already posted here, but now I don't see it.

Lost 10 lbs. at my WI this week - gotta love those week one losses. So I guess the scraping was a good thing to do, ;) .

Terri, once again I am sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how your mother is coping. I'm sure it will take a long time to come to terms with the loss.

Yo Yo Sue 01-09-2003 10:38 PM

I have been struggling along with my weight. I would really enjoy being a part of your group.
It took me about 5 years to lose 100 lbs. I t has really been rough.
I have been doing WW123 but am not attending meetings at this time.
2003 is really exciting for me. I plan to lose 1 lb. a week and be at 250 by the end of this year. ( I am a very slow loser.)
Looking forward to getting to know each of you.

Terri in MO 01-10-2003 07:58 AM

Cynthia - Doesn't it feel great to be getting back to WW eating? Especially with a 10 pound loss!! :bravo: :cp: :cb:  Keep up all the great work.

Sue - Welcome to the group. You've done a great job too to lose 100 pounds. It is so much healthier for your body to lose at the pace you are. Just keep doing what you're doing.

This is a sad note concerning weight and what we do to our bodies. A friend at work's husband is in the hospital and very well may not have made it through the night. He was always a big guy. He'd go on a radical diet and lose 200 pounds in a matter of months. Then gain it all back. Lose it again, then regain. I had heard that recently he had "gotten down" to 500 pounds and had lost 100 in the last couple of months. He's been housebound for several years as he can no longer work, drive or hardly stand long enough to fix his lunch. All the radical dieting has damaged his heart. He went into the hospital on Monday after having the flu and had gotten dehydrated. He also got pneumonia and fluid build up around his heart. He was not responding to the meds to reduce the fluid and now his kidneys have started to fail. He is only 46 years old. It is so important for us to take better care of our bodies - we need to do this healthfully and that is slow, to eat right, drink our water and get exercise to keep our hearts strong. Keep him in your prayers.

Off to work!

Chillin 01-10-2003 10:54 AM

Sue - WOW, you've done so well on your own, what a great loss. I know it can be frustrating to lose slowly, but as long as that number goes down things are good. Welcome, and I love the pic under your name.

Terri - I will keep your friend in my thoughts, man. It's amazing what we do to ourselves isn't it? I'm not sure why - are we basically lazy at heart, like to take the easy road all the time even when we see it isn't working? Seems like that's how I am at times. If he survives perhaps this will be a wakeup call for him.

I know I'm a freak - the only woman whose biggest loss is generally right before TOM. A few days before my body does what it can to get rid of water - it's amazing. Went out to dinner with DH and FIL Monday night and had to go to the bathroom twice :o ! I think that's why I had such a good week one WI.

Anyway, we are heading to the mountains today so I won't have a chance to post again until Sunday evening. Bringing my Ipaq and Food Companion along so I'll have no excuses. Have a great weekend all!!

slutbunny 01-10-2003 12:45 PM

I'm down 4.5 - but that's for three weeks (I haven't made it in in AGES). Yay, me!!

Gotta run - too much work, not enough fun.

I miss y'all!

Yo Yo Sue 01-10-2003 08:11 PM

Thanks for the warm welcome.
That made me really sad about the man with the flu.
I sure hope he gets control of himself and starts taking better care of himself.
They had a show on TV about how you can be healthy at any size. It was major helpful for me. I have tried to pattern my lifestyle after it, as I am 51 now. It is amazing how much I have slowed down the last few years. If I had not been taking care of my body, I would probably be bed ridden by now. That is a scary thought.
Have a great evening. I have had two bad days on program or I should say OFF program. Tommorrow will be better.

slutbunny 01-12-2003 07:02 AM

Well, yesterday's dinner was ham & cheese pressed sandwiches (a WW recipe) - and I hated them. Dry, tasteless - bleh. To be fair, I think it was the bread, not the sandwiches, which was truly awful.

I didn't eat them in any case. Yuck.

Today we're got our traditional Sunday brunch at The Border - aka, Taco Bell. Then its off to shop in Hickory (about 2 hrs away). If we do dinner out its likely to be Subway - I LOVE that place!

Lots of walking in lately - but its all start and stop walking.

Oh, and for those keeping track NO HEEL PAIN. The insoles are, imo, a success! Yippee!!

Hi Ladies

Here's Suzanne's latest post on advertising on 3FC (We can once again mention brand names without threat of banishment {PHEW!}) :

Clarification of the advertising rules (01-10-2003 until 02-10-2003)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi!

It seems there has been a little confusion over the need to remind everyone of the rules, and what the rules actually mean.

The rule was not directed at any one person. The reason behind the reminder was because we've had an increase of new members over the last few weeks that seem to have joined to try to cash in on the New Years fitness rush. As an example, these include Herbalife salespersons, trainers wishing to promote their services, and that sort of situation.

Most of you have probably visited other forums in the past that were filled with 50% posts advertising every diet gimmick on the market, and no real weight loss information or support. We try hard to prevent that from happening here.
If you wish to discuss a particular commercial product or service and find out how it might (or might not) help you, that is fine. That's not the same as advertising, as you are not pushing a product with the benefit of monetary gain.

Also, many members have often sold unwanted or unused items on ebay or half.com (etc) and that is fine as well. Our rules are geared to people that sign up with the only purpose of selling products or services and are not here for weight loss support (also applies to existing members that embark on commercial ventures and follow suit).

I hope this clears up any confusion. If not, please feel free to message us further

Thanks!

It didn't snow here yesterday. Good thing too cause 15 miles north of us they got 3 feet of the white stuff. Today, cause I wanted to go to the movies, it snowed all morning and the roads got really bad just when we would have had to leave to catch a matinee. :( Ended up doing stuff around the house and shoveling. At least it's 6 inches of light fluffy snow, not the stuff that weighs a ton.

JEN: Good for you. 4.5 lbs :bravo: Glad those heels are doing well. What kind of insoles are you using?

SUE: WELCOME :cb: Who cares how long it takes???? We all know down is the way to go and you've been VERY successful. Glad you've joined us!!!

CYNTHIA: How was the snowboarding?? I love the Rockies but have only been there a couple of times. CONGRATS on that 10 lb loss. :balloons:

TERRI: Hope your friends DH is doing better. He's in my prayers. You said: "It is so important for us to take better care of our bodies - we need to do this healthfully and that is slow, to eat right, drink our water and get exercise to keep our hearts strong."

Tonight is roast chicken with a fruit stuffing, veggies, and for the rest of the house big, greasy, Poppin Fresh muffins. I'll pass on those and have a slice of fresh oatbread.:)

See you all later,

Chillin 01-12-2003 07:44 PM

Jen - Congrats on the loss, particularly after not having gone for 3 weeks, that is great. I too like what Subway has been doing, all those cool breads and sauces they have now. It's a great standby when you are out and about.

Sue - I believe you can be healthy at any size. I know I'm in better shape than a lot of my friends, who are all smaller. But it does take more consistency. There are some things, though, that you just have to be smaller to do. Even if I'm in decent shape it's much harder getting the bod up mountains with the extra weight, and harder to get off the lifts when you have a belly and heavy thighs in the way, :( .

j-ann - which leads me to the answer to your question. Unfortunately the snowboarding for me didn't go too well. I got in one run before my lesson and actually got some heel turns in, so an improvement. However, while trying to get off the lift in order to take my lesson I got knocked off balance by the gal to my right, and then someone either skied on or rode on the back of my board - so as I fell and my body twisted my ankle twisted since the board couldn't move. I'm goofy-footed so my right ankle is sprained now. Kinda limping about. It really blew because there was 6 inches of powder at Breck this morning that I couldn't enjoy. DH got in a few runs before we headed home, though, so at least someone had fun. I'm still going to get this sport down, though, so call me hard headed  .

My challenge this coming week is to stay OP even though I can't do my regular exercise. In the past I've always been and all-or-nothing girl. If I didn't exercise I didn't stay within my points, and vice versa. I did really well Saturday night, even though we went out with friends. I had the maximum I could have (used bank points and previous APs), and felt good. I just hope the ankle heals soon so I can get back to my walking.

melhoward 01-13-2003 09:22 PM

I have come back finally

To make a long story short........ I'm back.

I have been on and off the bandwagon lately. I am trying to make a fresh start so hopefully being back here will help me. In September I got a new job as a first grade teacher in a poor district. I love my students but it certainly adds stress to my life. Stress causes me to eat and my hurried schedule doesn't do much to help things either. I am 27 and single and I had lost 60#. I have gained about 30 back so I am hoping to be strong again.

:) Melissa
