Good for you for tossing it!
I don't know what's "normal," but I know that I used to have real problems tossing out food. "I don't want to waste it," I thought, and ate it all up even if it was blah or unsatisfying or frankly kind of gross (I, too, am a kitchen experimenter like Fatburner and sometimes I create Frankenstein's monster

).
Then I read something here that made SO much sense: if I eat something instead of throwing it away because I "don't want to waste," I am essentially treating my own body like a trash can or garbage disposal. The food is still wasted whether I throw it out or eat it, because it's food I didn't need as fuel and didn't enjoy eating--and that's the very definition of waste.
