Points plus question

  • I just joined WW and have question. When you weigh meat, or poultry or fish, do you weigh it before you cook it or after? Also, I was on the old program a few years back and still have the old calculator. With the old program, 2 slices of double fiber whole wheat bread was 2 points. Now with the new plan, 2 slices of the same bread is 6 point! Now it looks like each food item has more points on this new plan. Also the old calculator was so easy and fast to use, compared to this new one. I guess I just have to get use to everything.
  • for meat you weigh it after it's cooked and yes so many things went up in pts but so did our daily pts so most balances out I use the multigrain sarah lee 45 cal a slice bread, it's 1 pt per slice and very tasty! and I agree about the calculator, it's taking me some time to find my info on nutritional labels and input but I'm getting faster everyday
  • I usually weigh it raw, because after it's cooked it all chopped and mixed in with veggies and stuff. If I bake a whole chicken, then I weigh whatever I slice off and it's cooked.

And forget everything about the old program, pretend you are a brand new member on the new one.
  • I weigh my meat after it's cooked =D

I was a little bummed about bread going up in points but I discovered that light bread such as Sarah Lee is 2 points for 2 slices and I use the whole grain.
  • Looks like I'm one of the few who don't weigh or measure. Does everyone do this at every meal?

Every so often I will weigh or measure just to be sure that my portions are somewhat correct, but it's not more than 1 or 2 items per week.
  • I usually weigh meat before it's cooked. I don't always weigh it, but sometimes it's good to go back and make sure you're getting your portions right.
  • River, I weigh/measure everything but the zero pts stuff (fruit, veggies) but then I'm still pretty new with ww, been doing it just a couple months. I did it years ago but the saying is true, if you don't use it you lose it, so all those good habits before I forgot so I'm learning all over again and I'm not at the point I can eyeball servings etc yet, but that day will come I'm sure, lol.
  • oh and I also found that weighing sometimes works to our benefit! like I have some baked doritos (yum!) and it said it was like 3 or 4 pts for so many chips or so many grams.. so I was just counting out chips but one day decided to weigh them to see how many grams made up that serving and I got like 5 extra chips doing it that way! woo hoo! felt like a lottery win, LOL!! the little things in life do make my day, LOL so now I weigh my chips instead and other little things like that, pays off for me, LOL
  • I weighed and measured a lot at the start. Now I estimate most things in relation to some portion size mnemonics (which I now can't find the site for)....i.e. 3 oz of meat is approximately the same size as a deck of cards, 1 cup is approximately the same size as your fist, etc. I always weigh pasta though, and I do check in every so often to make sure that my portion sizes are still accurate.
  • I weigh and measure also because I'm new. I need to get my eyes focused on what a portion size is. because even if I cook a good recipe If I eat too much of it tha'ts over what I should.

So yes, i weighed the 3 oz of turkey. I weighed the 3 oz Sweet potatoe. I didn't weigh the string beens.

I weighed the mac and cheese at 1 cup. yes, I weigh.
