I'll say I got frustrated with the old plan-- too many packaged foods, WAAAAY too confusing.
I did a full raw diet for 10 days last summer and lost 8 lbs. When my mom told me ALL fruits and most veggies were free on the new WW, I said, that sounds like the raw diet! Not exactly, but the free bananas are what made me start the new WW!! So nice! I've had a boiled egg, salad with turkey, grapes, green smoothie today... apple with peanut butter last night... cucumbers and tomatoes as sides with my fish and potatoes last night too... I am LOVING THIS PLAN and it's only my 2nd day! I did weigh myself this morning (just curious) and already lost a pound. I'm doing it "at-home" with my mom as my partner. Just can't afford the time or money for the meetings at this point. Maybe in the future. :) |
I feel that it is working better and I am hopeful that I might actually get to goal for real this time. That would be nice.

For an awful lot of people there was a tendency to eat high carb, low fat food because it was lower in points. Now, that food may well be higher in points than something that is high protein. (Fat was always penalized somewhat in the old program and the new program). Basically from a calorie standpoint a gram of protein is 4 calories and a gram of carbs is 4 calories. WW basically makes the same grams of protein be more points that something that is the same grams as carbs. Part of that is because you burn more calories eating and digesting the protein so less of it is available to your body to store as fat. The other part is that WW wants to encourage healthy eating. They also want most of your carbs to be coming from things like fruit and vegetables which tend to be low calorie naturally. And those are now zero point (with a few exceptions). I kept seeing people here talking about Vitatops and had no clue what they were. I finally looked them up. They are basically the yummy top of a muffin. They do indeed look yummy. Under the old program a vitatop was 1 point. So was a piece of fruit. An awful lot of people would probably choose the vitatop instead of the fruit. The thing is that the vitatop really is nutritionally junk food. There is a place for some junk food (I'm looking at you WW peanut butter cup sundae) but WW I think realized that it was in effect encouraging people to eat the vitatops rather than other more nutritional food. Now, that vitatop is 3 points. Still OK to eat, but you can have the piece of fruit for zero. Now, me, I'm not all that fond of fruit. I would choose to have a 100 calorie pack of almonds which is also 3 points but has nutritional benefits to it. The new program encourages making healthier, more nutritional and better satiating food choices because of how the points shake out. This is a better program because it is more accurate and considers all the components of food - fat, protein, carbs and fiber -- rather than not paying attention to protein and carbs. Of course, you can still have junk food as a snack (I know I still do at times) but it shouldn't be the centerpiece of your diet and the program shouldn't be encouraging you to eat a vitatop instead of, say, a chicken breast. |
I see. that was a good example. They don't really encourage Vitatops but I think the Vitatop people pay them for advertisement. They probably gave them a point value and people still think, they are a good choice.
WE can make our own muffins and still be under 3 points I suspect. Those things are insanely expensive too. I'm glad to be here. I feel and now this is how I'm going to live, it will take some time to learn but so what. no rush. I'm doing better today then I did yesterday:)_ :carrot: |
I wonder what Hungry Girl is going to do...
A lot of her recipes involved swapping high point things for lower calorie, processed items that may not be low points anymore... And I agree with everything Koshka said...its part of the reason why I left WW last year. I was eating within my points, but not losing - probably because I was eating a lot of "junk" food. I'd rather have popcorn than a piece of fruit because it was lower points, etc. I like this system so much better because it really does encourage you to eat things with better nutrition. |
Hey Stella, I think she is talking about Vitatops today in her email. I think she will adjust her recipes. I know she already sent out an email regarding the new PP system.
here is a link to one of them http://www.hungry-girl.com/gfg/show/1854 |
I really like the new system, and lost 2 pounds in my first week on it!
Free fruits is fantastic. |

I have to agree, the old progam did NOT work at all for me. I hit a plateau after 4 lbs. for months and months then said forget it! I stayed within my points, did spin class 4 times a week and stayed the same. I am one of those people that doesn't do well with carbs. Love this new program, so much easier and i'm not so stressed outside of the house on choice making.
I lost 5.4 my first weigh in :) love it!! |
There's no difference to me. I'm eating the same foods. I always ate veggies and some fruit.
I made huge (healthy) changes in my eating when I started WW (with Momentum), so nothing has really changed for me aside from seeing more points. |
that's what I thought tryinghardtolose. I was wondering what the heck is all the fuss about . I see now, they weren't doing the fruits and veggies. I guess because of points.
wonder when this is ever going to dye down. The new Points plus. the new points plus. don't ya love it. :snowball: |

Yeah I was starting to think I was missing something! :dizzy: |
Thank you, everyone! I was going to join tonight, but am snowed in. We don't handle snow and ice well in SC. :)
I have done WW many times in the past. I would lose about 20 pounds and then stop. I really think that they allowed me too many points but, maybe it was because I used junk instead of eating the fruits and veggies. I do eat lots of fruits and vegetables now. Calorie counting as worked well for me but, I think, that trying something a little different will help me. The support group should be a help. If it does not work, I can always go back to calorie counting. :) Our local community center has a WW watchers meeting at 5:30 and there is step aerobics class at 6:30. I think that it would be good for me to do both. I hope that the meeting gets out in time or I may just get up and leave if it doesn't. |
I have done WW before, actually reached goal and am a LT member, but gained some of it back (not all) Since then, I have stalled out on it more than once.
I just rejoined online, and really like the new program. I picked up a lot of bad processed habits with the old WW, and really didn't learn the balanced way of eating and losing weight. I think this new program is the ticket. I lost nearly 4 pounds the forst week. Does anyone know, do you weigh more frequently with this new plan? It prompted me to weigh again today and I did and entered in the incorrect weight (accidentallty) and now can't change it. I don't see anything about it. |
