New WW Program

Hi everybody.....

I went to a meeting today just to learn about the new program. I don't want to sway your feelings on it, but am very interested in hearing your feedback after you attend.

Good luck and please lets share!!!

me4life 11-28-2010 11:22 AM

i haven't been to a meeting since the soonest one is on tuesday here but got this from someone off the ww site

Filling Foods are now called Power Foods...

29 dailies is the LEAST you will get and you get 49 weeklies. Some things are a couple points higher than on Momentum. Like vita tops are 3x's more than they used to be.

All fruit is free except juice. As long as the fruit is in it's own juices and drained it is free too. So like the canned fruits are ok...just get the kind in own juices or water, and drain...

It's protein fat fiber and carbs now that you need to count.

It feels like momentum 2.0 or something.

Seems very do able especially with the fruits and extra points.
. . . . . . . . . .

Koshka 11-28-2010 11:45 AM

I also went to an early morning meeting to get the new materials. No real surprises since I had read the patent application and had browsed the UK forums.

Yesterday on the old plan I ate 24 points which for me is 23 daily points and 1 weekly point. I recalculated it under the new plan and it was 30 points which is now 29 daily points and 1 weekly point.

Overall, I was expecting to like the program since I think it is better nutritionally and really encourages healthy eating.

I will be interested to see how the free fruit works out. I'm not a big fruit fan (I ate more veggies) and was always reluctant to spend points on fruit since I don't really like it that much. I went out to breakfast to a buffet after the meeting. I was very careful about what I ate since I wasn't sure how it would shake out on points. But I did eat fruit with it which I would have been reluctant to spend points on before. The leader was clear in the meeting that eating free fruit is meant to be reasonable, not to be stuffed and don't eat 15 bananas in a day!

There was only one thing that concerned me. Before I had 23 points when the minimum is 18. I have 50 more pounds to lose. However, the new minimum is 29. That seems to be roughly equivalent to my old 23 points. That is fine for now. But, what about when I've losted another 30 pounds and only have 20 pounds less to lose? My body will be smaller so I'll burn less calories but I'll still get 29 points. I do wonder if this will lead to slower weight now.

The leader, however, (I didn't know her since this wasn't my regular meeting) said that she has lost on the new program and was wearing a dress that she said she could not have worn a year ago and she attributed it to the new program. She did say that on maintenance she was getting 35 daily points.

My DH who is doing the program with me and is 6' and weighs 220 is getting 39 daily points.

Edited: Add breakfast points

We went out to eat breakfast and I calculated my points on the old program and new program.

Surprisingly it was 18 points on the new program and 18.5 on the old program.

Some things had the same point count - tortilla, scrambled egg, bacon, chorizo

Fruit was 1 point on the old program, 0 on this one.

cinnamon roll -- Very small piece was a little higher on the new program. Had I eaten more, the new program points would have been more than the old program.

BuxomPrincess 11-28-2010 12:12 PM

This was not my typical meeting and I was not impressed with the leader :( Had it been my first time I may have left.

The room was jam packed!! And they had a meeting at 8 and one a 9 which created havoc with all the people that were there.

One thing that really angered folks was that there is no 'slide' to figure out points. Even if you have etools, you don't carry your computer around with you so you are FORCED to buy a points calculator. One lady was so angered that she said she was writing to the corporate office. I have an iphone so that doesn't affect me so much, but if I didn't I'd be a little upset about it to.

Overall I am excited.....my hips need to be gone!!!

Koshka....I'm guessing you bought the new calculator?? How much was it?

BrendaBrenda 11-28-2010 12:12 PM

Lurking - trying to get pregnant and if this next cycle is a bust, I will be dieting to try and help boost my fertility. The new WW plan sounds great (I did 123 success ages ago).

Koshka 11-28-2010 12:26 PM

I got 2 of the calculators. They had a member kit that was $34.95. It had a zipped case and in it the dining out and food companion, a cookbook, a 3 month tracker and a coupon for a free calculator and a bunch of other coupons. So I got the free calculator from that.

They were also allowing you to buy one calculator for $5.95. Regular price is $11.95. We bought one of those so my DH could have one for himself as well.

So you could get the calculator by itself for $5.95 or you could get it free if you got the member kit.

Even though I do my tracking online and have the iphone app it is convenient for me to have a printed copy of everything.

For people with an iphone or other smart phone you could rely on that rather than buy a calculator. I don't always have my phone right there so I decided to get the calculator which I can leave in the kitchen at home.

Someone did ask about the slide but no one complained about it. Meeting was crowded and was actually kicked off by the territory manager who then handed over the meeting to the leader.

BuxomPrincess 11-28-2010 12:26 PM

Brenda......good luck to you....whether with baby or coming back to WW. :)

I am a HUGE believer in the WW way of losing weight.

BrendaBrenda 11-28-2010 12:42 PM

Thanks, Buxom! :)

BuxomPrincess 11-28-2010 01:10 PM

Koskha.....clearly your meeting was better. However I do know that when I go to 'my' meeting it will be fabulous :)

You are welcome Brenda!! :)

Koshka 11-28-2010 01:26 PM

Well, I normally go on Saturday but went today to get the new materials. I will go to my regular meeting next Saturday as well since I want to hear my regular leader (who is great) talking about it. The leader at the meeting I went to this morning was OK but I really, really like my regular leader so want to hear her talk about it.

BuxomPrincess 11-28-2010 05:32 PM

My thoughts exactly. As we are all different so are the leaders. That's why we have so many choices....fortunately!! :)

I did drive back to that center and bought the smaller kit with the two books & journal, I also bought the calculator. This has totally re-energized me!!

The first time I joined WW I was 140lbs and I had the same daily points value up until I met goal at 118lbs, so it's doable.

I myself, decided to go to a meeting and purchase the calculator since I don't have a smartphone and can't always be by my computer. The meeting leader seemed quite annoyed with today, guess the launch is getting to her, and the receptionists were very very unfriendly. Just cemented why i definitely should be an online member.

I'm EXCITED about the new program though!!!!

Snoopysgirl 11-28-2010 07:22 PM

I can't wait for my meeting on Tuesday!!! I have been browsing the Aussie and Uk sites so have a vague idea what to expect but as I have been looking forward to this since I had got word of it ....I am just really looking forward to getting on with getting on... (or rather, getting the weight OFF!!! :dizzy:)

BuxomPrincess 11-28-2010 07:29 PM

Snoopysgirl.....

Baby #6.....wow that's amazing. Congrats!!!

Once I got word I started doing the same thing with checking out the other sites. Now that it's real here it's exciting.

Good luck :) :)

Calculating points for new program

OK ...I've been reading the message boards and realize that there is no slider ...my class is Thursday. I plan on buying the calculator, but someone on one of the UK boards worked out another way to figure the points ...they said that it may be off by a few tenths of a point, so 'round up' ...I tried it, and it works. Just take the calorie count for the serving of food and divide by 40. I will use the WW calculator most of the time, but if I'm in a pinch, I'll just use the calculator on my phone (calories per serving, divided by 40 ...then round up).

If you think that meetings might help you see if there is another time you could go or even a different center. I've been a lifetime member for 20 years (currently relapsed, alas) and leaders and staff vary a lot. In my years with WW, I've had a few really great leaders and have seen a lot who are OK and a few I didn't like at all. Same thing with staff. When I haven't really liked the leader I always try another meeting to see if I found someone really good. I'm one of those people that just doesn't do well without actually going to the meetings.

In a pinch I could see doing that but I agree about mostly using the calculator. There are differences in point counts for 2 foods of similar calorie count depending upon amount of protein, carbs, fat and fiber. I've found so far that the foods that are different points from before are usually the ones with empty carbs and they tend to be 1 or 2 points higher than you would expect from just looking at calories (same with high fat but I'm used to that from the old program).

PeanutM91 11-29-2010 12:16 AM

did anyone weigh in at their meeting though for the launch of the new program? even if it wasnt your usual weigh in day just to have that initial weight?
I'm very undecided on if I want to weigh in today at mine at 6:30pm or just wait till Wednesday at 9:45am which is my normal weigh in so I can go on an empty stomache in the morning rather than not eating all day until 6

BuxomPrincess 11-29-2010 02:14 AM

Peanut.....I did weigh in on a non weigh in day :). Also they won't give you the new materials unless you do weigh in. I won't be able to weigh in again until NEXT Wednesday but I'm ok with that.

After only one day I'm feeling really good about the program.

Everybody note: when you weigh in you are given your new DPT (daily points target). If you buy a calculator you have to set it for you and it then displays the DPT. my calculator shows a point less than what I was told on weigh in sticker. And us WW peeps know that a pt is a pt!! I can't ask about it until next meeting but it's something to keep in mind.

Thanks buxom, I will probably be weighing in as well I'll just eat light for the day, fruits and such up until then. I will also be buying a calculator to make it easier.

spryng 11-29-2010 07:17 AM

My meeting is tomorrow and I'm super excited to start the new program. My leader wasn't sure if they'd have the dining out companion or food guide, she said they were ordered but hadn't come in yet as of last tues so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they are in! I eat out alot on the weekends and that dining out companion is a lifesaver for me :)

Lilly221 11-29-2010 09:48 AM

I do not go to the meetings, I have eTools. I, too, would be upset to learn that they were not giving out new sliders if I were a meetings-only member.

My first thoughts with the Points Tracker online....ughhhh I have to re-enter 75% of my saved foods AND I have to re-do most of my saved recipes. Talk about a pain in the butt!!!

I'm going to give this new plan a fair shake and continue to track both WW as well as my calorie-counting site to see if the new plan is more consistently accurate. Before, I could have 3 days of the same calorie count but have as much as an 8 point variance in daily point counts!! One day I was under by 5, one day I was over by 3, another I was under by a half.

I think that there's a big dividing line between meetings members and online members ---- half-points. Online calcs do the half points (or did, anyways) but it seemed to me that meetings members staunchly eschewed the half-point. To me, the more decimal of a point the more accurate it'll be in the end, but now online the half-points seem to be gone.

pointspluspioneer 11-29-2010 10:05 AM

Well i started the new program yesterday! Not my normal meeting but also packed! I think this is going to be really good, I'm a big carb eater so for it to now focus on protein I'm hoping it will really help. The unlimited fruit is also huge with me! The only downside i noticed so far is that the light 10 calorie English muffin went from 1 pt to 3 pts so now my choices are really thought through!

There is also no more tracker so your forced to get the calculator they sell.
Luckily it was half price for $6!

I was so excited to get back because it's been so long and i was awake the night before like it was the night before Christmas as a little kid lol!!

Unfortunately i am several pounds heavier and the heaviest I've been in over 3 years but i figured if i start before the holidays it's better for me in the long run.

chipper15173 11-29-2010 10:13 AM

so excited about the new program.
does anyone know if they ever have a slider?
need to watch my pennies right now.

I was up all night too lol so anxious/nervous for my meeting/weigh in tonight.

pointspluspioneer 11-29-2010 10:25 AM

We asked yesterday, there will be no slider anymore :(

Koshka 11-29-2010 10:54 AM

I normally go on Saturday with my DH who is also doing the program. He was gone this Saturday so we didn't go. So we went to a Sunday morning meeting and weighed in. The new calculator was $5.95 on sale but we also bought the deluxe member kit and got one as part of that.

They don't do half points online any more. Each point is now "smaller" than it was before.

This morning they converted the online site and things I entered from their database were converted. Quick Adds I had to add back in. I had already calculated the new points for them so that was quick.

I am also counting calories at my plate. On Saturday I used 30 points on the new program and ate 1189 calories. Sunday I used 30 points on the new program and ate 1227 calories. The difference was primarily that I ate more fruit on Sunday.

pipernoswiper 11-29-2010 10:59 AM

i am doing ww online.........i do not want to pay shipping and handling for the materials, there is a local meeting tonight nearby and i just want to go in and buy what i need. will that be a problem? hope not.

also anyone else feel like they are getting a whole lot more points. i sure do.

Mine did that too until i figured that i need to add the . ounces so i had to put in 207.6 instead of 207

That's interesting because when i signed in online today it gave me the same points as my calculator did. So that really leaves me confused as to why the meeting gave me a different number.

The leader did say that there were still a lot of glitches. I find it all very interesting given how long they had to get this ready.....we aren't the test cases.

All in all....I'm happy and excited!!

mmel3283 11-29-2010 11:32 AM

What about Activity Points? do they still exist?

How do I figure them out without a slider?

pointspluspioneer 11-29-2010 11:47 AM

There are activity points, there's a chart by weight and how intense your exercise was and then gives you that number of points.

tryinghardtolose 11-29-2010 02:34 PM

Glad the new program launched, however I'm really concerned with the "free" fruits. As my dad would say, nothing in life is free :D.

My concern is I'm relatively a healthy eater since I started weight watchers. Therefore, I would have my 5-7 servings of fruits and veggies which would sometimes count for 4-5 points.

Now, I'm no health expert, but if 50 cals =1 point, than that's roughly 250-350 MORE calories I'm taking in (Not including the 18 EXTRA daily points).

I'm concern I won't be losing at the rate I have been which has been roughly 3.5 -4 pounds a week. I have so far to go and even a pound or two gone from my average a week could impede on my long term progress. :^:

Nonetheless I (at least these first two weeks) will be monitoring the foods I eat very closely and comparing the points value to the old system to see how far off they are. It's a lot of work, but hey, it's worth it. I need to lose this weight and I don't have years to do it ;) (I'm planning for a huge event!)

Aclai4067 11-29-2010 02:54 PM

I'm looking forward to the new plan. I'll be weighing in a little early this week (Thursday) because I will be in Atlanta for the SEC Championship on my normal weigh-in day. The only part I'm dreading is my points sliders being obsolete. I'm always misplacing them but it's no big deal because I have 5 or so. Going from that to one calculator (unless I want to fork over $12 for additional ones) is a little disappointing. I had a moment of "man and the points on my scale will be wrong too," and then I remembered I never use that feature.

pointspluspioneer 11-29-2010 02:59 PM

tryingtolose - i thought that too about too much fruit! Someone did ask in the meeting "so i can eat 5 apples" and he said yes, that's within the fruit and veggie daily count. I would say, if your not hungry don't eat the fruit. I think it's an alternative where they are now focusing on lower carbs. I had a fruit salad with my ww meal (which by the way went up an average of 2 pts per dinner ) and it was very filling, whereas i would have a pita or bread of some sort that doesn't fill me up.

BuxomPrincess 11-29-2010 03:40 PM

Everything in moderation...even fruit. The leader yesterday said....don't eat a dozen bananas and expect to lose. What they seem to be trying to get us to understand is that our bodies break down and use foods differently. Hence a banana or other piece of fruit is way healthier than a 100 calorie pack etc.

MODERATION....that's what I keep telling myself....2 bananas in one day later!! :)

I was just going to ask the same thing because I always count and eat my AP's! I wonder if the new calculator figures those out also..

Koshka 11-29-2010 04:28 PM

I think it is important to remember that your body counts calories not weight watcher points. So the body doesn't know that a piece of fruit that was 1 point last week is now 0 points.

I am a long time WW member (relapsed life member) and so I've long known all the tips and ways to get a bit more food for the same points. Yet, if that results in more calories then I fool myself and not the program.

The idea of fruit is to encourage it rather than other more unhealthy snacks. I am not a fruit fan and so rarely will spend points on it. Yet, last night I had eaten 30 points for the day -- my 29 daily and 1 weekly point and wanted just a little more to eat. In the past, that little more would never have been fruit. Last night I did eat an apple.

The reality is that very few people are overweight because of eating too many fruits and vegetables.

However, I think you have to watch what happens to weight loss. If I was losing X amount and it suddently went down with the new program and I was eating a lot of fruit then I would definitely cut back on it. Or if I really love it, eat just my daily points and the fruit and rarely eat weekly points.

PeanutM91 11-29-2010 04:57 PM

I've made a big boo boo today. I decided to eat light because i'm going to weigh in when I go to the launch meeting in an hour sooo I decided to eat light which meant a slice multigrain toast and strawberry preserves with grapes for breakfast and then fruit in between. Now going on the old plan thats only likeee a few points..hmph I'm still gonna have A LOT over when I eat dinner.

glynne 11-29-2010 05:34 PM

My meeting day is Wednesday, so I have not been to that yet under this new plan. Getting most of my information here and various other places on the web. I had read somewhere that the lowest amount of points was 29 and on the e-tools ~ when I went there this morning, it had recalculated me to 29 points. On the old plan, as you lost weight you decreased your points. So, I am not understanding how on this new plan if you are already at the lowest number of allowable points, how do you adjust when you lose so you can keep losing?

pipernoswiper 11-29-2010 06:03 PM

i too am super confused, i have read that many of you have only gained 1 or 2 extra points, but when etools recalculated for me, it gave me 11 more daily points! that is a lot! anyone elses points go WAY up?
