Two questions on how to measure and count

  • Ok so I have attached a screenshot of the nutrition information for a can of chickpeas. It gives the nutrition information for 130g and says there are 3.5 servings per can.

Now if I actually drain the liquid off of them, then the weight will be different. Is that 130g of BEANS alone? Or 130g of beans in their liquid?

The second attachment is the nutritional information for Jolly Time Healthy Pop Popcorn. I used all the numbers down the left column, multiplying each times 2.5, to figure the points for an entire bag...is that the right way to do it? I got this figured at 4 points for the whole bag, do you guys agree with this or have I figured something wrong? Popcorn numbers always mess me up.

  • I would say that the 130 grams is for just the beans, and that's how I measure things like that. However, if you want to be sure, you could drain off the liquid and measure the weight of all of the beans. I would expect that there would be about 385 grams of beans alone, and if so you would know it is just the beans.
For the popcorn: yes you mulitply the calories, fat, and fiber in the left hand columb by 2.5. And I came up with 4 points for the entire bag.
  • Mini, is the 4pts for the entire bag of 94% less fat popcorn? And where does the 2.5 measurement come from.
  • 4 points is how I counted the popcorn as well. And the 2.5 comes from 2.5 servings per bag.
  • Thanks melbellrocks, I guessed I goofed the first time I had the popcorn, I should have know that it was too good to be true that a whole bag was one point. In the future I will stick to the 100 calorie bags.
