I kind of like that too, and will miss that.

I'm going to give it a month (September, since I've paid for August already) and if I don't lose 4+lbs doing it on my own, I'll go back in October.

I do need to choose one weigh in day and stick to that, though. I guess I could keep the same day I normally would go to WW.

alternative "weigh-in" solution

You can always check and see if there is a TOPS group in your area. You can find them online...just search in google for "take off pounds sensibly". (I haven't posted enough yet for it to allow me to include the link). It's similar to weight watchers as far as support goes, you meet weekly and weigh-in and have a program. You can use whatever diet you like, they do have an exchange program they can teach you--but most in the TOPS group I attended actually used WW points. It is an international organization and you get a magazine every 2 months, etc. Yearly dues are $26 and then it is usually $2-$4 a month in dues for the local club (depends on each individual club). Usually they have contests running, etc--makes losing weight fun! Just something to check out

I did weight watchers about 6 years ago.. I hated the meetings and weighting in. Basically as soon as they marked what I had lost I was out of there. This time around my mom is doing the meetings she really likes the. So I get to stay current on different topics ect via mom. I am just doing the program by myself and weighting myself every monday morning. I have lost 16 pounds already. So you can definately do it without the meetings.. You just have to keep your mind on the prize..

I just do ww online. I've never been to a meeting because I don't have the time and I think it costs too much. I love doing it online b/c i get all the tools and the resources and it tracks everything for me. The cost is much less (I think $21/month here in Canada).

My local Y is having a weight loss support group starting in Sept., and it meets during a time when the child watch is open so that's a possibility for me. I think it's $15 for 2 months, and it meets 30 minutes once a week. I think I'll check it out. I'm at the Y pretty much all the time as it is... ;)

I too am considering changing to calorie counting to save some money. WW has helped, but honestly I haven't completely relied on them anyway. I've always been a diet renegade. I like sparkpeople and may go back to calorie counting with them. Points and calories aren't much different from what I can tell.

My WW account comes up for renewal soon, we'll see.

It costs me £32 a month to go to WW, including buying WW snacks there, and the magazine once a month. Tbh, I think its a worthwhile investment, because it seems to be working for me.

Sure, I can write what I eat and weigh myself at home, but what I need, and what I get from WW meetings is the deadline and the accountability of someone else seeing my weight. The fact that I have to lose so much by Tuesday at 7pm means I get it done! Otherwise I would give myself a bit of leeway here and there and end up falling off the wagon.

I know it's up to where you feel the need to budget, and I'm sure our lifestyles and budgets differ greatly, but I've bargained with myself that wherever I need to cut £s, cutting lbs is more important, so I'm counting that £32 as the priority in my budget. Losing this weight is one of the biggest priorities in my life (if not the biggest) so I'm sticking with it through thick and thin, even if it bankrupts me!

You haven't really stopped WW just because you stopped the meetings. A physician I work with in the ED gave me a points book and showed me how to count points. I did more research and started WW august 2008, lost 78 pounds, then fell off the wagon may 2009. In about 6 weeks, I gained 18 pounds, my favorite jeans fit but I couldn't button them. End of July 2009 I was frustrated and irritated with myself, had a few breakdowns and then jumped back on the wagon. I have lost 13 of the 18 I gained and still doing good. Although I just finished rambling in another blog because I feel I could eat all the snacks in the house and I was by myself.....so my point is you can do the ww at home, it taught me portion control and how to eat right... hugs to you

Yup, agreed! It's $16 for me (US).
