Is this normal?

  • I started Weight Watchers on Jan. 3rd of 2009. I am very diligent on keeping track of my points, mind you I have had a few days where I haven't tracked but I did eat pretty well. The first couple months I lost around 10 pounds each month. Then the next couple months 7 pounds each month. The last 2 months I have lost 3 pounds each month. I walk 2-3 miles a day about 5 days a week.

I guess I am just wondering if this is normal? I know it is better to lose weight slowly then to lose it fast, but I am impatient. I guess I am needing some reassurance or a kick in the pants! I just started really looking at my progress and figuring out how long it will take me to lose my remaining 38 pounds and couldn't believe at the rate I'm going it could take another 8 months!

On a brighter note I have lost 51 pounds since Jan. 3rd. Went from a size 18/20 to a solid size 12. I feel great!
  • I'm guessing the S/C/G is outdated?

Sometimes as you get closer to goal it's harder to lose weight.

I'm guessing if you up the workouts you'll see your loss jump back up again- maybe try jogging instead of walking a few times a week?
  • Yes, it was wrong....Thank you for pointing that out. I don't frequent the forums as much as I should.

I have tried jogging a little, quite honestly I feel silly doing it.

I'm totally not going to give up....I'm just impatient.

    3 pounds a month seems so...I don't know....not enough.
  • 51lbs in 6 months is fantastic! Well done!

(I'm at 48 in 5, so just about matching you!)

    No suggestions, just congratulations!
  • You sound like me. I started in March and lost 9 - 10 pounds each month for the first 3 months. In June it was down to only 7 pounds, which is still great and I am proud of it. I have already noticed for the first week of July I have lost only 1 pound. I will take it but my weigh loss has slowed as i get closer to my goal. Slow loss is better than no loss. I am still way ahead of where I thought I would be. I did not think I would be below 200 until Christmas and I am almost at 190. So I now I figure if I can lose 1 pound a week then I will get close to my end goal by Christmas. My goal is to be at 160 by June 2010. So I started with a long term goal in mind and that has really helped me stay focused now that the weight is coming off slower.

    Hang in There!
  • Thanks guys...you all made me feel better.

It just seems that I have been hanging at 183 for a while. I couldn't wait till I got out of the 200's....190's gone and wasn't really concerned about it. Now for some reason this 180's thing is really making me anxious, like it is never going to go away!

I've been reading about the Wendie Plan. Has anyone tried it? The weeks that I have "cheated" or eaten more are the weeks that I drop more. I would be really happy if I was losing a solid 1 pound a week. Maybe I should stop weighing myself daily. I step on the scale every morning....My reasoning is that it helps keep me on track.

    Thanks again!
  • I think you have to keep in mind when you first start out if you're extremely heavy the body tends to shed it pretty easily, then as you get smaller, it becomes hard.

From what you've said it sounds like you do the same exercise. Maybe add some other kind of workout...or something.

Either way 51 lbs. is amazing! Congrats!
  • The longer you do this, the less weight you lose per week or month. If you have a great deal of weight to lose, it comes off really fast and then you reach a point in time where you are delighted to even lose .4 in a week and 1 pound in a month.
I work very hard and see very little results, my body is very good at maintenance.
I think you have done a fabulous job and should be thrilled with your results. Be patient please.
  • I haven't lost as much as you yet, but I'm starting to feel a drop off in the rate of loss too. It's frustrating.
  • I can add this: it also gets harder as you get older. So, lose it now and keep it off! Be really proud of what you've done so far...amazing!
  • You can also think about it in terms of percentage-- 3lbs is a higher percentage of 183 than it is of 234.

And from one size 12 to another, 12 is hott!!
  • I shook things up a little this week. I ate more, made sure I drank all my water and bam...2 pounds gone! I think I am being too strict and eating the same things too often. Thanks for all your comments!
