Default Thin4Life - Week of 5/11/09

Had a nice weekend. Played a little golf. Went on a little trip to St. Petersburg tos ee my mother and also attend the Symphony Under the Stars--a great concert that takes place in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stadium. It was a wonderful evening. On Sunday, DH and I took my mom and dad out to lunch. I know that Melissa can relate to this--it's hard seeing my parents age and they seem to be getting older more quickly. My mother can hardly walk and my father is totally blind now (genetic disease).

Back to the grind today. How is everyone?

I hope to hear that Miss Phoebe made her appearance and that Lori is doing well.

Good morning! It's sunny here with a cool 49 degrees...it's not supposed to get much warmer today but that's okay as long as the sun is shining

Lisa, it is hard seeing your parents age...some days it's more apparent than others. My dad is doing okay--his mind is sharp (for the most part) but his body is frail and that part is sad for me. He still thinks he's going to be able to come home at some point but we know otherwise.

I'm only at work a half day today--I have my appointment to get the radioactive iodine treatment this afternoon so I'll be off until Friday. I'll be on my computer though. They said to treat this like a bad cold and limit my contact around people. I do have some projects at home that I can tackle--the question is do I want to?!

We had a good weekend--Saturday DS #2 played in a high school rugby tournament in Pittsburgh so we went down to the "Strip District" (shops that feature biscotti, fresh pasta, breads, etc.) and then headed to his game. The highlight was that he scored a try--he was excited because his dad has not played on this particular field so he was pretty happy about that.

I'm starting to feel the effects of not being on any meds and the slow down from the anti-thyroid medication--I can only imagine what the next 2 weeks are going to be like. I just need to get through them and then hopefully get back on the Synthroid...I really hate the fact that it takes time. Can you tell I'm not a patient woman?

Lori: I hope everything went well with your labor/delivery--we're anxiously waiting to hear from you and hopefully see some pictures.

Melissa, What is this iodine treatment for? I didn't realize it was dangerous to others, so that you have to stay home. You're funny. Yes, which tasks will you do?? Or will you relax and drink some tea? Ha! I need to do some painting, but it's not my favorite thing. I keep saying that I'll do it and then something else comes up. I also need to go through my clothes again and toss out some stuff. Why do we wear the same things over and over?

I hope we hear from Lori. Can't wait to see photos.

Okay, I'm going to try this one more time...they say the third time's a time so hopefully I'll be able to get this post done without hitting some random key on my laptop and wiping everything out!

Lisa, the treatment is to stop my thyroid from producing the hormone because it was producing too much. They say it's better to give me a replacement than to keep trying to monitor it with antithyroid meds and it's a lot safer and less side effects. I had to go to nuclear medicing and they bring the capsule out in a lead container about the size of a highball glass and it's heavy! Long story short, I had to wait over an hour because they were waiting for the results of my pregnancy test, which I didn't have done because they told me I didn't need to because I had had a hysterectomy in 2007 but it was never marked down...*sigh* It was a good thing that I had my book with me to read.

The good part about all this is that I can do things just not be with people for extended periods of time so I can run to the store, take a walk, etc. The weather is supposed to be nice the next couple of days so I'm hoping to get outside for a couple of walks.

As far as projects go--I'd like to do a little painting as well. Our front entrance way could use a fresh coat as well as the upstairs bathroom. I also need to move my turtlenecks out of my dresser and put in some of my Spring clothes...

Had a pretty quiet day today--finished reading a book and then went to the store to get some fresh produce. I forgot that they had been closed last week so the store was crowded and the lines went all the way to the back of the store! Oh well, at least now I have some fresh fruit & veggies.

This evening my kitchen sink clogged up and I think it's the drain for the disposal...I think this calls for a professional because the water is not draining down. I had run the dishwasher and the sinks filled up with water and I had to scoop it out so I didn't have another bigger problem. It's always something!

Got a call from the nursing home that my dad headed out the door and set the alarms off because he was "going out to have a cigarette"...the nurse called to let us know. He's figured out how to turn off the buzzer on his bed/wheelchair and now he figures he can just head outside.

This morning I woke up stiff as a board and it took me a while before I got the kinks worked out...the brain fuzziness/lightheadedness is also present. I sure hope I can get back on my meds soon...I hate this feeling.

On an up note tomorrow's weather is supposed to be nice so I'm hoping to get outside and enjoy it. If I can keep my energy level up I may call a friend and see about getting a short walk in. We'll see how the day goes.

Melissa,Sorry about the fuzziness. That treatment sounds really unusual. Ha! Your post about the pregnancy test was pretty funny, although not for you to be waiting all that time. It's great to move the spring clothes in. I took some winter coats (yes I wear winter coats) to the cleaners yesterday because I forgot to do so earlier and I told the lady at the counter that I needed them--she laughed. It was 90 degrees here.

Your dad sounds like a pistol. My father is in the hospital. He had angina really bad and thought it was a heart attack. They admitted him to do some more tests. His health has really declined in the last few months. I just can't get over it. He had prostate cancer (detected early) and convinced himself he was dying. He had the treatment and is supposed to be doing well, but you know how the attitude affects you? He lost 30 pounds and is generally depressed. sigh

TGIF--what is everyone doing this weekend? Headed to dinner with friends this evening. On Saturday, there is the annual Runners Club banquet, but during the day I want to replace of one our ceiling fans--need it bad. On Sunday, I hope to play some golf and then I am having my GF's parents over for dinner. Her parents are watching her home while she is on vacation in the UK.

Melissa, How has your weight been? I haven't heard you discuss any WI's You were rockin' for a while there. I am struggling. I cannot get rid of about 7 pounds. Of course, I keep eating snacks and sweets, so that doesn't help. It's just so difficult ever since Menopause.

Lori, Can't wait to see photos of your little one!

Good morning! Back at work and getting caught up; good part is that there wasn't a ton of things that needed to be done.

Lisa, I hope your dad improves--it's hard when they resign themselves to not feeling well and the depression doesn't help. My dad actually went on something for that and it made a big difference.

My weight has been holding around 138 although the last time I had my WI I was up 3# but that was an earlier WI. I didn't go this week because of that treatment so I'll have to wait until next week. My clothes are still feeling good and I'm hoping to be in the 130's (doesn't matter if it's 139--it's that number thing, lol).

Weekend plans include working on WW tonight and Sunday morning; Saturday we have the alumni rugby game and boat house party afterwards. We're holding our breath for nice weather; at this point they're calling for rain and possible t'storms. I hope not!

It's sunny and cool here this morning and I'm walking with my friend at noon--hopefully it'll help blow the cobwebs out of my head.

Went to WI (DH talked me into going with him) and I wish I hadn't (up almost 3#). I need the wake-up call though. I'm just headed the wrong way. I've been into the sweets and snacks lately. Ugh!

Melissa,I hope that you're in the wonderful 130's; I know what you're saying about numbers. I just wish I were in the lower 160's. How was your rugby party?

Dinner on Friday night was scrumptious. DH and I installed the ceiling fan-hooray. Went on a 7 mile bike ride yesterday. Plan to play golf today, but it's supposed to rain.
