Default I'm a Weight Watcher!

Hi everyone! I am new to the forums here but hoping to get some great advice and support throughout my WW journey.

I had my first meeting this morning. Went ok except for two other members made the comment a little too loud that it didn't look as though I needed to lose weight. It kind of put me off about being there at first since I didn't think they would like the thought of people judging them then why were they doing it to me.

I am barely 4' 11" and weigh 140lbs. My father passed away from heart disease (had strokes, heart attacks, diabetes, ect) at the age of 42 and both his parents did not live past 45. Now that I have a 2 year old, I want to shed this excess weight and get into a healthy BMI range- My short term goal is to reach 135lbs, then 125 and finally somewhere between 112-115lbs, but will be happy with 118-120

This first day has been hard for me. I have already had my 18 points that I am allotted and used 3 from the 35 weekly allowance points. I am still craving something.. a candybar, a ice cream cone, something, but I am going to hold out.. I hope.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum, where there is lots of great advice and support!
Don't worry about whether or not you "should" be at WW -- if you meet the WW plan requirements then you're in. You might want to mention this to your leader, so she can set the preconceived notions right.
I'm so sorry to hear about your family and your family history. It sounds like you are taking the right steps to ensure that you are around for a long time for your 2 year old.

The first two weeks are the hardest. Make the best choices that you can. Stick with the plan. Drink lots of water and tea. And see what happens.

You can do it! And you can pm me or anyone else for help if you need it!

Welcome!
Kira

Thank you so much!

I did make a comment to the whole group about what I overheard. The topic discussed today was about turning negative thinking into positive thinking. We were asked what negative thoughts popped into our heads to keep us from achieving our weight loss goals. I stated that one of my negative thoughts was having people look at me and think I didn't need to lose the weight and that it makes me feel as though I need to gain more just to start feeling as though it is ok to be on a diet or weight loss plan

Does anyone know of a website that shows sample menu plans for point values? I am having a hard time thinking of what I can eat throughout a day that will not exceed my 18 points

Thanks in advance, and ty Kira

Hi there!
Good for you, standing up for yourself and mentioning what you heard! You ROCK!!!
OK, here are some links that might help:

The first is based on 22 points a day, but you can adjust down to 18 points easily:
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51110

This link gives you a whole bunch of online WW resource addresses:

I guess at the end of the day, the beauty (and sometimes failing) of this program is that you have the ultimate flexibility with this plan to have what you want. Which makes finding sample menus a bit hard because there really are no rules!

another welcome from me! I'm a 10 year WW member! I actually did lose the weight and keep it off for three years but I had some life issues knock me down for a while so I'm back in the "actively losing and working the program" category. I hope you enjoy the program as much as so many of us do. I would recommend getting the shopping guide (I hope it's called that - it's a book with loads of food items and their points values) and that will help you when you plan ahead for your meals. That way, let's say you fancy a steak for dinner, you can look up the points value of the steak and then plan everything around it (I generally plan ahead anywhere from 1 day to 1 week) up to your 18 points.

You also earn activity points, but I think you have to use those each day you earn them. Not a bad incentive though to have a couple of extra points per day, without dipping into your 35 weekly points (we don't have these in the Netherlands! BUT we don't count most fruit and veg).

Anything at all we can help with, just keep posting!

Thank you NBaxter and Vekveteen

I did purchase the basic starter member kit so I would have the shopping and dining companion books. It has been interesting looking at the point values of the items I had been so used to eating (and am currently still craving but so far winning the battle, so far )
