Default Thin4Life - Week of 8/24/08

I had a great weekend! DH and I went out and celebrated Friday night. I went and got my blood test Saturday morning (had to figure out where the hospital was, I've never been to that one before) and then drove up to NH to visit a friend. I spend Sat. night there and then Sun. morning drove to my parents. I got back home around 1pm, went grocery shopping, and then helped DH clean up the basement. We need to get organized to so we can re-finish the basement room so that we will have one of the bedrooms for the baby. When I was gone Saturday DH did a lot of work to the kitchen. It is starting to look really good! I love the new color. Its called "Green Tea". It was a yellow color ("Buttercookie") but the yellow was just too bright.

Lisa - Basically you only need an extra 300 calories a day for the baby. There are a lot of guidelines to follow for eating though. Like 4 servings of calcium a day, 3 servings of protein, 4 servings of green leafy or yellow veggies, 6-11 servings of gain, etc. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get that all in and only eat the extra 300 calories

I had started the thread already, but that's OK.

You're right, Lori, how do you do all that with 300 calories?? The color of your kitchen sounds really nice. Are you going to do the baby's room with a certain theme?

We must have started them at the same time! Congrats on your anniversary Lisa! Mine is this Saturday. I don't know what we are going to do yet, but we never get dressed up to go anywhere, so I was thinking maybe we could go out for a really nice dinner. Although we already went out to eat this past Friday to celebrate, so maybe we will keep it low key. I don't know!

I don't know about the baby's room yet. First we need to re-finish our basement so that we can move the L-desk and the daybed out of there. That won't start happening until October/November. And besides, we want to find out the sex of the baby before we start thinking about colors. But I think I want to do something with animals. We'll see!

Default Question

So I've finally reached my goals but now my question is how to maintain. I've been in WL for so long, I'm not sure I know how to just be. Do you have any words of wisdom or advice?

I appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks!

Lori, So how many years for you and your husband? We celebrated 32! I can't believe it. We went to a really nice restaurant and I wore one of my pretty black dresses; I wanted to get dressed up. We're such slugs anymore and don't dress up.

Animal themes are fun. Speaking of that, I'm wearing animal prints today.

Briana! When I started maintaining, it was a little hard because you don't the "reward" of seeing that scale go down. For me, it was really a way of changing my thinking to the "reward" being that the scale stays the same.

Lisa - 10 years together, 5 years married. I'm just thinking that if we dress up, it will probably be the last time DH sees me really dressed up for the next 8 months or so

Lori: Congratulations!!! How exciting! My "baby" started his senior year of high school today! I think going out for a nice dinner to celebrate your anniversary is in order--enjoy it! I need to start painting at my house--the entrance way is in dire need of new paint, as well as the living room and upstairs bathroom.

Lisa: Happy Belated Annversary! DH and I will celebrate 26 years on 9/17; time sure flies! When do you leave for vacation?

Briana: My best advice is to make sure you go through the maintenance phase (adding points to see how many you can eat and maintain) for 6 weeks; keep doing what you did when you were in the weight loss mode. Maintenance is a delicate balance--in my opinion, it's harder than losing! Please join in!

The students are back on campus and yesterday was a blur. I never got to eat my lunch until 2:30. I did get out for a short walk over the lunch hour, which I desperately needed. I think I aggravated something because last night I had the shooting pains in my hands and had a really hard time sleeping. I had to take a muscle relaxer (which I haven't had to take for 6 days) in order to get to sleep. I have another appointment with the chiropractor this afternoon. I need to ask him how long he thinks it will take to get the numbness out of my hands.

It's a cool 70 here today...I love the cool nights and warm days.

Well I don't know about that dinner for our anniversary now! We've eaten out quite a bit in the past few days. Last Friday to celebrate, then Monday night we ordered Chinese. Although the Chinese was due to DH saying he had some beef teryaki off the lunch truck at work and then that made me want Chinese REALLY bad Maybe we will go out, I don't know. We will be doing a lot of work on the kitchen this weekend. I just hope DH doesn't overdo it!

Melissa - DH has to go to a neurologist tomorrow because he has had problems with his hands. He is constantly pulling and tufting fabric and foam (he does upholstery) and it seems to aggravate it. Some days are really bad for him. I'm hoping its nothing major!

I'm scheduled for an MRI this morning; the doctor's office called and there was an opening so I'm taking it. I'm going to miss my WW meeting today but I can't do anything about that unless I get done early. My appointment is for 11:45 and I need to be there at 11:15.

Lori: Well maybe a quiet dinner at home would be nice and you could relax.

Another cool morning here--it's 67 degrees but it's supposed to get up into the mid to upper 70's by the end of the day.

Lori, I liked the comment about getting dressed up. LOL

Briana, Yes, welcome. You sound just like me. I was so scared when I made lifetime. I agree with Melissa that sometimes it's harder to do to just maintain and also with Lori that the "reward" of losing goes away. You'll do fine. Just watch as you've done in the past and you'll be fine.

Melissa, Your area has really cooled down. Unfortunately, we are hotter than ever! Today the heat index will be 104. DH and I leave for vacation on Saturday.

Default My first week

Thank you to all. I've managed to stay at my goal for 1 week. I did notice that it was just as hard to stay as it was to lose, which is a little wierd for me. I'm doing my best and thanks for the words of encouragement. I'll check back later and let you know how I'm doing.

Briana: Great job on maintaining! I still attend weekly meetings to stay on track; I need the weekly weigh ins for the accountability. Love the picture on your profile--you look great! I should've given you a little introduction: I'm 46 and have 2 sons, one of whom is married (23). My DS #2 (17) is just beginning his senior year of high school. DH and I have been married 26 years. I also work for WW as a receptionist, which also helps me to stay on track. I love it because it's different than my "day" job working at a university.

Lisa: Another cool day here--only 65 today. The weekend looks promising with temps getting into the high 70's which will be perfect. This weekend is Germanfest so it'll be busy. I'll be doing a lot of running around which is great for my activity.

Lori: My older son and his wife are getting settled in their new home. The found that the bedroom had hard wood floors underneath the carpeting so they tore it up--I got to see the room yesterday and it's gorgeous! They didn't have to do anything to "repair" other than a good cleaning with Murphy's oil soap. The house is really nice and they want to pull up the carpeting in the other bedrooms as well. I still can't believe that they're homeowners!

I had my MRI done yesterday and now I'll just have to wait for the results. At first it was a little scary but once I relaxed it was fine. The noise was the worst! I will admit that since I've been going to the chiropractor the pain in my hands and down my arms has definitely lessened so that's really good. I've been able to get to sleep without taking the muscle relaxer (I hated taking them).

Busy weekend ahead of me but at least I'll be able to relax on Monday!

Good morning ladies! Well I had 2-3 nights of exhaustion earlier this week, but last night was actually fine. I was able to stay up to my normal bedtime Actually, my eating hasn't been as good as I would like. It isn't bad, but I'm not getting as much veggies as I want. Partly because we will be leaving Tuesday for vacation and I hate wasting food, so I bought only as much as we will need through Tuesday, but mainly because I didn't make the stir fry last night that I had planned on making so I barely got any veggies yesterday! Well its stir fry tonight and then leftovers for the next three days before I go to Disney! I just hope that Hurricane Hanna doesn't hit in the middle of our vacation, but it looks as if it is going to end up in the Bahamas and not in Florida (at least for as far out as they can predict right now).

Briana - on your maintenance!

Lisa - Have fun on your vacation!

Melissa - DH didn't get anything out of seeing the neurologist other than having an MRI ordered. He was mad, but not really at the doctor, just that he didn't get an answer yesterday on what is causing his pain.

So my OB/GYN called on Wednesday and said she wanted me to come in 2 weeks for an appointment and an ultrasound. The nurse was supposed to call Thursday to set it up. She didn't. So I called Friday and set it up. The earliest she had was 4 weeks, and the ultrasound had to be on a different day. Now, DH wants to come and separate appointments will be hard for him to get off of work. More important to me though is that its not like the appoinement is a day or two off than suggested, its twice the time. Even after pointing out to the nurse that the doc said 2 weeks. So I ended up leaving a message for the doc to call me back about possibly getting an earlier appointment. I'll let you know how it goes.

We invited a friend down with us to Disney on Sat. and Sun but really he will be staying 3 nights. At first I thought it would be nice to have him, and I still do. But I'm kind of wishing we didn't because it would be nice to have the whole week together too. I'm not going to back out on him though, he already booked it and everything. I'm sure it will be fine, I'm just really looking forward to the time I do have alone with DH!
