Default No scale - what is a reasonable goal???

Hey everyone!

I just stared WW this week, so I am really new at this. I simply love it, you guys have been a huge help!
My question is, I don't own a scale. They scare me to death. So I want to set a goal for myself, but be realistic. So far I am staying within my points, and doing 30 minutes of elliptical machine a day. Is it realistic to think that by the end of the summer, if I stay on track, I will have lost ond dress size?
I know that alot depends on your body and such, I just don't want to set a goal that will leave me disappointed...

Thanks in advance!

Mandy

How about measuring inches instead of pounds?

Thats a good idea...Its just that I have a closet full of clothes that are a size smaller then what I am currently in. I thought it would be great if I could get into them by the end of the summer. Kinda like going shopping!

I think that clothing size are great goals. My goal is to be an 8. I started at a 22/24 and I'm currently a 12. I picked a weight that I thought would get me there, but I'm finding that my body type goes through sizes differently than others (I'm tall and I see that you are too). Good luck!

As someone of very similar height/ weight/ goals I think it is very doable to lose on dress size this summer, if you stay on track. At our height (in my experience) you need to lose about 15 pounds to lose a dress size. When I went from 230 to 200 I lost went from size 16 to 12. Of course some of sizing has to do with body shape and where you lose weight first. I am a pretty proportional hourglass who lost weight pretty evenly, perhaps first in my stomach. I don't know if my experience helps you any, but I would recommend weighing yourself every once in awhile, perhaps at a gym or WW.
Good Luck!

I can understand how you feel- I once got into a cat fight with a nurse during a doctor's visit because I wouldn't step on the scale- but I think it might make you feel good, once you realize your hard work is paying off. Maybe try it just once a fortnight?

Ha! Thats funny! I usually just tell the nurse that there is no need to weigh me, I already know my weight, 120! So far no one has let me pass up the scale, but it does get a laugh!

It's funny you say that, because I've lost almost the exact same as you, going from 235 to 208, but I'm only 5'4". My size has not gone down at all. So far, my waist has gotten much smaller, but my hips are keeping my size from going down. Just goes to show how different body types can play a huge role in your clothing size.

If I hadn't been weighing, and was only going by my clothing size, I would be extremely frustrated right now and might have even given up.
