breast feeding and points

  • I think I may have asked this before but I wanted to know what to do for my breastfeeding points.
I eat 26-28 a day. They say 36 a day but thats a lot and I havetrouble trying to do that.
    Should I be eating that?
  • Yes, I think you should. The reason is because you're using so many extra calories while breastfeeding, and if you stay at 26 -28 a day now, you probably won't continue to lose after you ween your baby.

You might try to eat healthy, higher calorie foods, following the Healthy 8 Guidelines. For example, you can add nuts which are high in Omega Fats, or higher calories fruits such as bananas.

I have to add - keep in mind that I am neither a doctor nor a nutritionist, though, and you should follow their recommendations.
  • I'm gonna ditto the use the points sentiment.

You were given a great suggestion in the nuts but you can also utilize a whole grain regular bread over low calorie bread, or whole or 2% milk over skim. Eat regular cheese over low fat or fat free. Eat more protein in the form of lean meats. Also are you getting in your 3 healthy oil servings a day. Between that and your dairy that takes up 9-11 of your daily points right there.
  • I'm breastfeeding too and started WW yesterday...
I lost 35 lbs with WW and then became pregnant and had my son 3 months ago. So now I've got about 25 to lose again.... hooray....

I'm 5'3" and I weigh 143.8. I was thinking I was only supposed to have 30 points a day.... is that wrong? I only ate 25 yesterday.

  • Heather, the extra points for breastfeeding are added to your other points. This can vary quite a bit from one mom to another.
