Most centers accept cash, check, or credit/debit card.

Our Center accepts cash or check. You shouldn't have any problem paying with a check.

I don't think you'll have any problems with a second party check as long as your mom makes out the check to the center. However, I do have another suggestion you might consider. Weight Watchers is a great program, but if you're very short on money, it can be very expensive. My husband and I switched to TOPS, because we couldn't afford Weight Watchers together (WW offers no family discount).

TOPS is a nonprofit organization, and each chapter is run according to national guidelines, but each group's policies are determined by the group members through voting each year. It costs $24 to join (an additional $12 for a spouse or child) and then monthly dues (the national average is less than $5 per month, and in our local chapter $3 per month). In our group, we pay 10 cents per pound if we gain, and the person who loses the most takes the fines home (last week, I took home $2.40 for being the biggest loser, so I almost got a month's dues back). Every ten pound we lose, the chapter buys
us a charm we can add to a charm bracelet (Some chapters ask you to pay part of the cost of your charm, but most of the charms are only a few dollars anyway).

ON TOPS, you can follow any diet you want, although there is an official exchange based plan. Many of our chapter's members are former WW members still following the WW points program.

I'm not trying to persuade you not to join Weight Watchers. In fact, if you want to go to a group anonymously, I would say WW would have the advantage. TOPS groups tend to be small, and it can be embarassing to say whether you've gained or lost (not all groups do this), but everyone is very supportive and not judgemental at all, so it's very friendly and I think more accountable. I also like that there are recognition events and retreats that you can go to. Since you can attend either a WW meeting or a TOPS meeting for free before deciding, you might consider trying both and see which you like better.

Thanks for the information!! I stayed on the points plan for maybe 2-3 days, and I like knowing the exact number of calories Im getting. It drove me nutz NOT counting the exact amount of calories I was consuming. So I went back to calorie counting. I like WW meetings. I need that weekly place to go and get weighed or I will be on the scale every 5 min. See my weight go up, and go grab a pizza. I need that accountablity. Im just counting my calories, but using WW for my weekly weigh in.

I know 12 a week is a little steep just to go weigh in, and not follow WW. But $12 would have contributed to a morning breakfast at Whataburger, or a stop at sonic. So I rather just put the money into something positive.

If you just need a place to weigh in, learn dieting tips and tricks, talk to others dieting, and be accountable, I would definitely suggest trying TOPS.

Stacie, You will probably get lots of ideas from the WW meetings even if you don't follow it. WW is all about low fat, low cal, and high fiber anyway, so you could probably use lots of the ideas since you are counting calories.
Good luck and enjoy your WW meetings!!!
