I saw a commercial last night for 0 point soups by Progresso. I know most soups are 2 servings to a can, but that's still just 1 point for a can of soup. If anyone has tried them, I'd love to know what you think!
I tried the veggie and rice one. I really didn't like it all that well, but lots of people seem to. I would try them yourself and see. The only problem I found with them is that they are 860 g sodium.....which is very high. So probably not good if high sodium foods affect you. I probably won't buy them again, but I seem to be the minority. Try one! If you like it, it would be something great to keep around!
As I recall, the regular Progresso soups are only one point. I'd be willing to try the 0 point Minestrone just because their "regular" stuff is really good! I have to watch the low point meal options because I tend to use my remaining points for something totally ridiculous, like cake...
Most Progresso soups are low point (generally 1-3) but that's per serving. Each can is 2-3 servings so be careful! I just love the idea because when I want to stuff my face, I can just turn to 1 or 2 points of soup
Salt doesn't always affect even people with high blood pressure. I have mild high blood pressure and am on a blood pressure medication. I tend to retain a little water with too much salt, but my blood sodium levels are usually low, so my doctor actually encourages me to eat a little more salt than I do.
The problem is that I don't care for the flavor of much salt in most things. I especially find canned soups way too salty. And many of the soups, broths, and tomato juices and the like that call themselves low or reduced sodium, add pottasium chloride (a salt substitute), so not only does the food still taste too salty, it also has a horrible a metallic aftertaste to boot.
Progresso doesn't seem as bad as Campbell's, but I still wish that they would use less salt. It can always be added at the table, but it can't be taken out.
Yeah, I always get confused when you add more than one servings that are 0 or 1 points and they come out to 2 or more. Didn't we learn that 0 times anything is 0?!
This seems stupid, but it's the weird math of fractions. Consider the following math and it's translation in paranthesis. The first rounding to the nearest whole number, the second considering only whole numbers (anything less than 1 is 0, anything greater than 0, but less than 2 is 1.....)
I've tried them all now and I'm really underwhelmed. I'm definitely a canned soup kind of person (for the ease of carrying around a can with you for emergency lunches), but I'd much rather spend 3 more points and have the yummy lentil soup. A bowl of lentil or beef/barley can keep me going all day, with the "0" point soups I was hungry after only an hour.
I think their minestrone is one of the best soups, very tasty and low points. I also like Select Italian wedding soup, the regular is low points. They're both 2 pts. serving or 4 for the whole can, well the wedding soup, this time I got one of those that's in it's own bowl not a regular can. They were on sale
Tried the rice and veggie yesterday for lunch.... veggies were mushy and their weren't that many in the can. Wouldn't eat it again if I had a choice of something better, even if it meant using up some points!
I had a cup of the Savory Vegetable Barley with lunch. It was no that yummy. Not horrible, just not great. I added crushed red pepper flakes. The veggies were way over cooked and there was not that much substance to the soup. Luckily, I had other items to go with it.
