Default Supporting Each Other on Our Weight Loss Journey

It's great to be starting a new thread as the old one was getting too long! Join those of us who have been chatting for awhile and we will help you as you will help us.
This is a great thread, I think many of us are really getting someplace with this and it helps that we are encouraging each other!
We have a group of great people who are posting what is going on in their lives and we are working together. Sometimes I feel like our group is kind of like a mini dose of a WW meeting on a daily basis. We're making it work!
C'mon and join us and we'll help each other. We talk about what works and what doesn't work. We share recipes and we applaud and we sympathize!

Erica, thanks for what you said about my daughter. I think she will appreciate in the end what has been done for her. I'm waiting for those two little words we all love to hear (thank you).
Glad you understand about the carrot cake recipe. No, it was not one my mother made but I started the tradition using a recipe I had found before my husband and I got married. Mark had always loved carrot cake and I found this one recipe that is "to die for" and I made it one year and everyone on my husband's side of the family went nuts over it. I have to admit it's VERY good. I submitted it to a church cookbook at my old church in NY and a local restaurant starting serving it! If anyone wants the recipe, do send me a PM and I'll send it, but remember it is about the furthest you can get from a WW recipe, and not to be made regularly, but for special occasions it is the best, truly the best. It's actually called "The Best Carrot Cake" and there is no other way to describe it, I guess! It's a special request at all the family gatherings and it just wouldn't be the same without it now. We've been together 24 years, so that is a pretty long standing tradition. I'll bet my daughter (and maybe son, or his wife if he ever gets married) carry on this family tradition and I truly LOVE tradition. My sister in law and brother in law now make it as well. You must all share what your family tradition foods are and maybe we can talk about lightening them up. I like the idea of making two cakes and having the lightened up version, and the regular available. I would like to present it as an experiment to everyone and see what happens - will people have a little of each or will they still go for the traditional? I hope I have time to make both. The traditional will come first on my schedule, of course.
Paige, good point as far as my daughter goes, but truly I don't think she cares. My kids and I have very close relationships and I know them awfully well, unlike other parents. I was careful not to read notes and things of a personal nature, just seeing what things were and sorting them. You have no idea what a "pit" that room was! I hope she does better having a system to follow, but don't have high expectations!
Our power just flickered. I'd better hurry up and post so I don't lose this. It's been pouring "cats and dogs" as they say here since yesterday with such high winds. By the way, we were flood victims last year and I hope that this rain doesn't do it all over again to us. It's supposed to let up sometime mid-morning, so I am hoping we get by without having a huge issue. We had about $6000.00 worth of damage to our home and the insurance didn't cover it and FEMA gave us only $1100.00 towards it, I sure don't want that happening again!
Kim you are doing so well, and it's as if I could have written what you have about putting things away and going through stuff, only you are a day ahead of me. I hope to be able to report, at the end of today, that things are put away and Jamie's carpet is done. They are supposed to come at 8:30 this morning, but I am worrying with the weather we are having. I hope they will still work in this. If not, I guess we can just wait a day.
Ginny, my best advice to you is to breath and if you are feeling stressed, sit down and make a cup of tea or something like that, and maybe get a magazine and just look at the pictures. Sounds like an odd thing to say, but it helps me when I am feeling really stressed to just take a break. I have also literally forced myself to just SIT, setting the timer for 15 minutes and look out the window. That sounds truly strange, but when was the last time you just SAT and looked out the window. You can almost feel your pulse lowering and kind of get into watching the wind blow a fallen leave or the birds or squirrels. When times are busy, though, I know sitting like that is almost impossible.
Well, as for me, I blew it last night and didn't cook the meal I intended to cool. I let my bad boy husband talk me into having pizza delivered. I have no idea how many points I consumed, but I am crossing off all my flex points that were left (maybe 12 or 13?) and will try to be extra good today. I might be helped by all the activity points I have earned this week moving my daughters stuff out of her room and then moving it all back again later on today. But tomorrow's weigh in could be a disaster, we shall see. I am so close to my 10%, I need to lose 1.4 more pounds to get there. Having a gain would really not be fun, but with the birthday weekend coming up, I had better think through what I am serving.

Good morning everyone,
Well all of the schools are closed today, and today was supposed to be the first day back after spring break. This is just crazy weather! Although it is suppose to be in the 50's by the end of the week.

The weekend was pretty good overall. Now tomorrow is WI, so I need to be very careful so my efforts from the entire week aren't blewn in one day. That's what frustrates me a lot of times, how sometimes just one little slip-up can just make trouble for everything. I don't have much else to report, this snow/school closing has me bewildered this morning.

A short hello-
Linda thanks for the fine advice....my husband did finally apologize for being so outright mean and nasty (no other way to describe it!). I seriously can't help it if he is sick....and it is not my fault that he will not see a doctor. It is also not my fault that he is such a vicious crab. Then last nite this noreaster hit- so did the flooding.....I was up a good part of the night trying to keep the water out of the house and clean up the little that did get in. I think we are out of the woods now. I hope your WI goes well today. You have been so busy getting your daughters room cleaned up- hopefully all that activity did burned off some pizza! I have problems with water retention after pizza.
Gee, it would be great if you can get to your 10% tonight! Best of luck!

Erica- our school was cancelled too.......what a storm. Was it snow or rain for you? (we had a mix, mostly rain.) I hope you can keep yourself focused until tomorrows WI! Funny how one little slip up can cause an entire chain of events (and bad eating). If only there was some way to break the destructive cycle we put ourselves thru. Guess that is what the WW tools for living are all about.

Well, the way this week is shaping up I will have to miss a meeting or go very late in the week. (might just get to meet Paige then too!)Better to see how my efforts at holding the water back are faring.

Hi all! I thought the weather was letting up here a little, but I just looked out and it's sleeting. I was supposed to have class this morning, but ended up turning around and going back home...the roads were too flooded. I actually had already dropped little dd off at the sitters, but after I had seen that water levels were equal with a bridge that I have to go over to get there, I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to pick dd up after class. All the schools around here were closed...except for the college. UGH!

Ginny-Glad you were able to stay above water! It is funny...we live right by one of the lakes, but never have had any problems with flooding (just some water in the basement, but nothing major.) Right now I am planning on going to the Thursday meeting, hopefully that will work out for you too! Sorry your "d"h has been not so "d"!

Linda-The one good thing about where we live...we aren't able to have food delivered! Dh and I are usually too lazy to go pick it up, and in the end it is just easier to make something. When we used to live in Middletown...man, we had endless choices of anything we wanted. I hope that you still reach your 10%!

Not much else happening here...chat later!

Hey ladies,

I'm here after a very long day at work. I am exhausted and can't wait to go to bed. As soon as DS goes I'm gone right behind him. I am going to try to get up at 5 AM to get on the treadmill tomorrow.

Thanks Linda for starting a new thread. The other one was getting hard to keep track of.

No school for me again today....the village I live in has severe flooding. (my house is ok except for some minor wetness in Ds's room)
But between the cold I am getting and this is PMS week.....I am pooped and in a low key, quiet mood. Off to go for a walk and see if I can pick myself up.
Be back soon to say hi!

I am back. Gee, it is quiet here today. I did get my walk in, my mood improved a bit, and I am a wee bit less tired. Got some Zicam for this darned cold. I know so many who have it and are really sick. Today was nice in a way, I got the bills done...some filing....lots of shredding and some house cleaning. Been too darned busy recently and I really needed a "down" day.
The mindless eating monster was knocking at my door- got smart (and its about time!) that I kept him at bay and ate a lot of raw carrots. Mexican soup and a salad are dinner for me.......I did some not so smart eating earlier, and have to proceed cautiously to finish today well.

Ann- hope your busy day went well!! Nice that you could check in just to say hello.

Paige- lovely weather we are having, eh? I will make a major effort to get to the meeting on Thursday......complete with a warning of what I look like, hehehe. Are your schools open today?

Hi to everyone else! Hope your day is going great.

Ginny-Yeah, our schools were open today. I was wondering how you were doing down there today; I see in the paper you got hit hard.

I'm doing ok today eating wise. I have a chicken in the oven right now. I made a honey-lime glaze for it, so we'll see how it turns out!

Hope everyone else is well!

What a couple of days we've had.... we got flooded and I have spent a great deal of time on clean up and I'm exhausted. 90,000 homes remain without power, as far as I know up this way. Sounds like others have been going through the same kind of thing? Our power flickered a few times, but we remained on the entire time, thank goodness as our sump pump and shop vac were able to work throughout the time period and even though we were setting alarm clocks and all taking shifts with the shop vac day and night, we made it through this mess.
I'm getting estimates to install gutters on this house as we have to address water issues. Last year we were flooded and now this has happened again.
During the time we were shop vacuuming to keep up with water flowing into this house, the new carpet was being installed in my daughter's room.
So, aside from dealing with the water, we were moving her furniture around, it was pretty crazy. It looks great, though, she is now happy and I am still waiting to hear those two special words (thank you). I guess I know she does thank me even if it isn't being said. I am resisting saying loudly "for her", "Thank you mom for being so nice to me"... you know the nagging way people do that? I'm glad she likes it all though.
I went to my meeting this afternoon and I had a gain. It could have been worse, it was .4 and last week I lost .4 so I'm now back to what I was two weeks ago. I'm not surprised about the gain, as everything went to **** while we were dealing with water issues and the other night after I emptied her room, I was also stressed and gave in to pizza. So I lost control, I ate many cookies (my weakness) as well as dove into the chocolate. It was stressful. I had take out food twice yesterday and was at the point where I just didn't care what I was eating. I dove back into the chocolate again this morning and this afternoon.
But, I have to admit I am STARVING... I already ate dinner and feel as if I could eat another meal and I allowed myself Chinese food. I asked my son to get me the steamed Chinese vegetables witch chicken and he ordered the wrong thing, so goodness knows how many points I've had. I plan on tearing up this journal and starting a fresh one tomorrow. Forgiveness is my motto. I can't take back the last few days, but I can start fresh and move on.
I truly need to be back here posting and to journal like crazy. Tomorrow is a day where I have to take a breather, get back on program and put the stresses behind me. I'm concerned, after having a gain, that I will not do well with my husband's birthday weekend coming up and the inevitable cake. With the house flooding, I may run short on time and not be able to make another cake like I have planned.
So, gang, I'm here and pouring it all out. I have to remember that we are all human and we are going to have times like the last few days. Stress happens and crazy times take over, but it's what we do in the long run that will ultimately effect the end results!

Hello everyone,

Well yesterday and today have been pretty good with staying within the points plan. I can't seem to get a handle on the weekends, I always go overboard. I know this weekend is going to be tuff as well b/c this weekend is the oyster bake, unfortunatly I don't like oysters but once again they will have a lot of festival food. I am going to try to excercise as much as possible this week and eat healthy.

Derry: sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now. Don't let the gain get you down. I know you can get that off in now time. Funny thing I am hungry too, even after eating dinner. I think I might eat some strawberries or carrots.

For those of you with wheather problems I hope things get better soon.

Good Morning everyone,
Wow Linda I can't believe you're having to deal with all of that. I'd be right there with ya in terms of being off program while having to deal with all of that. And you're right, no Monday morning quarterbacking, it happened, now move on from it. I can already hear the confidence in your voice, that you'll put this all behind you. It would be nice if you daughter says those "two little words", there's just something about it. You're right about posting here and journaling like crazy, I know it really helps me to keep my focus.

haylo- wow, all those festivals! You make me want to come there and partake! So how do you think you're fairing through all of it?

Paige-yum, honey-lime glaze? That sounds really good. I made a pizza crust recipe from the WW cookbook, but if you could post again that would be great. I'd like to compare it, because the one I made was 3 pts. just for 1/12 of the crust. I use the FF mozz. and turk. pepperoni, and everyone really likes that.

Ginny-you're right, it was pretty quiet yesterday, I read everyone's posts, but I just wasn't in the mood to write anything. The weather was really wreaking havoc on my mental state of mind. We got about 18 inches of snow and I think I was at my breaking point.

Kim- hope your schedule is kind to you these days, it's so hard to be that tired and do all of this.

Ann-which Disney hotel are you staying at? We've stayed at the Port Orleans in the past.

Well, as for me, I lost 2 at my WI. I was very pleased especially b/c the night before I had a total pigout on meatloaf and garlic smashed potatoes. The leader, who was a sub, talked a lot about snacking and the importance of trying to put protein into your body whenever possible. She had some gross explanations of how quickly sugar moves through body vs. protein.
Thankfully the weather is getting better. We are going to Boston this weekend, and we're staying at a hotel where they have a "chocolate bar", yikes!!! Should be interesting. I'll check in later...

Good morning ladies,

I haven't been doing as great this past week, especially the weekend past but I am back on track today. I guess we all have days like that and I know I can get through it.

Haylo921 - Great job doing so well the last couple days. Try and pick the best choices this weekend at the festival and exercise your heart out...LOL

Linda - Take your time girl. You need to take care of yourself. It must be terrible having to get everything cleaned up from all that water AND be doing your daughters room at the same time. You have probably worked off that 0.4 lbs with all the clean up.

mpaigew - When do you weigh in? Good luck and try and find some more breakfast ideas that suit you better.

ECmom - I hoope you feel better and great job at keeping that monster at bay. He won over me this past weekend...LOL

Newlifestyle - How are you doing? When are you going on a trip? I wish I could go with you..

EricaL - How did your weigh in go???? Is the weather any better there yet?

The snow is almost gone here but that don't mean we won't get dumped on again. It's only April and that could possibly happen yet, I hope it doesn't though. Anyway I better go and have some breakfast and then hopefully get on the treadmill for a bit.

TTYS
