Omega-3 Question

  • HI Ladies...
I am working on week two of this new way of life and was wondering if two pills of Omega-3 would count as my two servings of oils a day. I just can't seem to figure out how to work them in and recently found out from a WW veteran that peanut butter cannot be counted!! So can I just pop a couple of these pills? Or can you give me suggestions how to work in the oils other than in salad dressings? I did South Beach for a year and a half and frankly, I'm burnt on salads but I love the Birdseye Steam Fresh veggies, YUM! Thanks or your help!
  • Officially NO! Supplements do not count. It must be in oil form (canola, olive, flax seed, safflower or sunflower).

I know many who think "I don't wanna waste points on oil" but it isn't a waste. It's 2 small points and here are some ideas of how to get it in:

Cook with it (fry an egg, or cook your Egg Beaters in it; roast veggies; drizzle over cooked veggies; drizzle on popcorn; stirfry veggies and/or meat)

Make your own salad dressings or add to your favorite fat free dressing

Mix it in your yogurt or smoothie or oatmeal.
  • If you want Omega-3's, why not get a bottle of Flaxseed oil or Cod Liver Oil and take that? Don't gag at the thought of Cod Liver Oil ... they make a molecularly distilled version that has an orange flavor and isn't even a tiny bit fishy! (I don't eat any seafood and I have no problems with the orange flavor oil). Because these are pure oils, I think they are safe to use to meet your oil requirement, and you can just take them by the spoonful on a daily basis as a supplement.

Alternately, I know of people who put flaxseed oil into smoothies to get their oil in. Or you could dunk some good bread into some nice extra virgin olive oil ... yummy. Just count the points for the bread.
  • no theres not enough of it in those caps.
