Fruits

  • I'm new to Weight Watchers and have to say my first 2 days were not good at all but today I've done so much better! I do have a question I hope someone can help me with...I know fresh fruit is better for you but what if all you have (and don't want to waste) is fruit cocktail in HEAVY SYRUP. Can I wash the fruit and get rid of the added sugar? HELP!!
  • Why not buy the light or in own juice fruits?
  • If you don't want to waste the cans of fruit you already have at home, wash the syrup off and eat the fruit. In the future, buying fruit in its own juice is a great idea - and not bad tasting either.
  • Or, if you can afford it, donate the cans of fruit in syrup to a local food pantry! That's how I got rid of a lot of full-fat soups, high-fat refried beans, etc., I had around when I started WW.
  • You can always just eat the heavy syrup fruit and eat a smaller portion. This trick will actually have two beneficial side-effects.

One you will always remember the how small the portion sizeof the heavy syrup kind must be keep the points reasonable. And it will make it easier to remember to buy the light version the next time you go to the store. Think of it as a negative reinforcement mind game.

Two, eating a smaller portion size now will give you something to go by the next time you are eating out (or at someone elses house) and the only choice you have is the heavier version.

Remember, WW is a lifetime thing. You will be in social situations eventually where you cannot control the type of food available, but you can control the amount of food you eat (portion size). Having a smaller portion size is one way to make it through these events with out blowing your eating plan. It is important to develop strategies for eating in social situations where you cannot bring your own food. WW is about moderation. You can have any food, but you cannot have unlimited quantities.

    Good Luck.
